Not trying to start a QQ thread, but I was wondering how much is an average gaming PC?
I've searched online and some of these PCs are running 3K-4K which seems extremely expensive considering that you can get a good laptop or desktop (not specifically for gaming) for around $600-$800.
Are these gaming PCs necessary or are they just over the top and only for those who want bleeding edge technology for 6 months?
How do you kill that which has no life?

If you do a little research, go to pcpartpicker.com, and shop carefully, you can build a respectable gaming PC for under/around $1000, you can get away with about $750(don't expect to run highest settings). It is not hard to build your own. By building your own, you can also plan for future upgrades via new/additional RAM or video cards.
This in no way endorses Legion...

$3000-$4000 is absolutely super-mega over the top for gaming. You can definitely build an excellent gaming computer for sub $1000.
Check out /r/buildapc on Reddit. Great resource for getting into building PCs

A decent gaming rig will cost you around $1,000 minimum. You *could* build it for less but then you have to start making sacrifices in quality somewhere and will likely have to play games in the lowest graphical setting. Oh and have to rebuild anyways in another 2 years. |

Also- if you've never built a computer before, don't be scared by it. Everything is pretty much color coded. If it doesn't obviously fit in a place, it doesn't go there. Very simple and there's lots of good guides online about it. The huge benefit is that then, when something breaks or you need more performance, you can just replace a single part yourself.

Thanks, will likely go this route when Legion is released.

You can make a good rig for under $600 which is really cheap in the PC gaming industry. I have a rig that once cost me $3,500 and it's practically 7 years old at this point. My NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card died and had to replace it with a ZOGIS GeForce GT 610 1024MB DDR3 which is a downgrade from the one I use to have and my computer is still able to play Eve Online smoothly with fairly decent graphics.
You can go for much cheaper if you can salvage computer parts from a junkyard. Believe it or not there is a market out there for people who salvage junk computers and iPads and sell them. You will be amazed how many people throw away stuff that is in such good working condition.

$550-$600 is the break over point where you really start to blow away "next Gen" consoles.

If you have a desktop already you may not need to start from scratch. Simply upgrading the graphics card is enough to make most games playable at medium quality on PCs bought in the last few years. You may also need to upgrade the power supply to accomodate the new card. But both of those components will probably combined cost under $200.

Why even bother? Dust is broken because of ****** game design. Legion will be broken just because it will be on PC: PC = Aimbot and any other sort of cheat. Legion will be even more broken than Dust.
Good job anyone at ccp, at least when Valkyrie will come to ps4 I already know I'm not going to buy it and I'm not going to "save" any critics.

3-4k boutique gaming pcs are like what apple computers are to normal pc.
You can build an alright system for $800
You can't really buy a gaming without paying through the nose those companies throw a "gaming" tax on those computers.
The cost of a good gaming pc should run the cost of a good mid-range computer + $500(covered video card and psu upgrade). ware.
