WhataguyTTU wrote:Kujo you are mostly right. Now they won't justify publicly but main reason is for money's sake.
I posted a thread with this 3 days before this Dust keynote and hit it spot on. On a business perspective it is unwise to pour resources into a game that they were seeing little return from since our player base was so low.
The NPE for this game is complete garbage and was non-salvageable for the resources CCP has set. No reason to spend alot of money for the sake of ~1000 consistent aurum buyers. Only way to fix the NPE easily......is a fresh start. They've learned from their dust 514 project.
Even it they do find a way to transfer characters, whats going to happen? The NPE is going to be crushed again and their marketing strategy for Legion will fail.
MY BEST ADVICE: This is not the first game that most of you (community) have dumped coutless hours into before moving on to your next gaming interest.
I've played almost every call of duty and from game to game you lose all your ranking and gun progressions. The sooner you can treat your money losses on this game as an "entertainment fee" the easier you will move on with your life.
If anything, you helped support what will be the game we always wanted and, for some, will never have.
From previous post 3 days ago: "I could see from a marketing standpoint that it (Legion) will be stand alone from Dust, meaning a fresh start from scratch.
Dust 514 I feel was an experiment to hype the EVE universe which is their main source of income. In turn, did not turn up the best way possible and had only like a 1% retention of players whom created accounts.
Most FPS vets don't want to come in at a HUGE disadvantage (SP) when their normal routine for a FPS is to excel from the start.
So in the effort of having much greater population:
Would you play and level a merc ALL OVER AGIAN if by then the game was worked on and made better?"
Player base being low is due to unbalance, OP weapons, and lack of PVE?! Which this community has been saying for months to no avail!
They don't listen!!! Cloaks are stupid, but if you want to do well you must spec in?! Same with rail and combat rifles?! Every update the fotm takes over the game?! Instead of just fixing bugs, adding game modes, and buffing the amount of features, they add OP weapons, don't fix bugs, and completely ignore the community while swearing that they listen to us in the same breath while they don't respond to threads?! Big ups to CCP logibro for having the spine to respond on the threads posted! Hope to see you in other games bro! Not even a CPM post on to kiss CCP's ass has been posted so you know it's over lol!

My response here
But to quote a part
Quote:I understand people's rage. I started playing (and paying for) DUST because it promised a "Sandbox shooter". A promise it has consistently failed to achieve, and I've felt rage at this betrayal. I stopped spending money when I realized DUST 514 would not be able to fulfill that vision, Legion feels like a return to the original idea, but considering the state of your first promise of a sandbox shooter, why should I believe you when you say Project Legion will fulfill that vision? If DUST is your evidence, why are you creating a "different project, with different development tracks"? This I think, is the core of player's complaints/tears/rage/concerns, and this is the elephant in the room that you need to clearly address with your players.

Its not the starting over part, its the not trusting CCP to not screw you over again and again. The ONLY way I would even log on to legion is if we got monetary credit for all AUR/Boosters/Packs spent on Dust in hopes of progressing towards something big. I wholeheartedly agree, but from a legal perspective, CCP owes you nothing as long as they say they are supporting Dust 514 on PS3. I do hope they compensate old dust players, who continue on to Legion, somehow.
I know that they dont legally owe me anything and thats why Im not saying refund but rather credit towards the new game. Either way, I dont trust them to put any time/effort into another of their 'projects'

DJINN Kujo wrote:I admire your determination to strive forward and make something out of Dust 514. After todays Keynote, you have indeed justified the thought of, *for the last two years, you have had console players beta testing a PC game designed for EVE players exclusively.*
I know you guys read the forums, a lot of players feel abandoned by this call of Project Legion. Again, I completely understand your motivation to make this game something. But by practically telling the current Dust community, that you are giving up on the console scene is a PR move that can not be justified.
The foreseen future of this game is in your hands now, it was never a game designed by the community which is something you guys cherished your proclamations in. There has been fixes due to sparked interests in the community, do not get me wrong on that aspect.
The current forums are filled with rage and anger for what everyone was excited for. We had no idea what we were excited for except to get to hear some new development about Dust which we were quickly silenced in confusion.
You asked for feedback via your Twitch stream, this is my feedback.
Probably something you did not want to hear, but I am truly being honest when I am saying, you are making a huge mistake with current events, and I do hope that there is something in those brains that will keep us enticed.
You also mention that we may not be able to transfer characters from another thread, if that is true, that is even yet another reason people would quit. I will not say everyone will leave, but me personally being the CEO of a corporation that holds the most veterans in this game, I can exclusively say you have put a foul taste in our mouth.
I really hope a DEV responds to this, to at least show the community you want to care.
Sorry for all the negativity, again, I am just being honest and hope you would understand why.
Leaving your console players behind is cutting your resources easily in half if not more. Dust needs to go competitive for it to stride to even bigger heights than anybody would imagine. It can be done on PC, sure. Publicity sake, Dust would be a revolution for FPS games on a console. It would be the new Halo so to speak.
This is most likely my farewell though - I look forward to community responses to see where thoughts are held currently.
great post kujo. i feel this will be a farewell for many, but i still have hope for this game and would love to see it come to fruition, be it on ps3, ps4 or PC. i just want one dev to come out and tell us the truth. itll sting and we will be angry, but we will get over it and move on.

Closed beta vet as well. I was outraged when they changed the wording on the merc packs AFTER everyone bought them, and now I'm just shrugging as I expected no less from CCP. Well written, DJINN. I have lost what little respect I had left for CCP today. |

Leadfoot10 wrote:Well said, Kujo.
I'd summarize my feelings like this:
It takes a long time to build trust in a company/brand/game, and only an instant to destroy it.
I hope it's simply emotion speaking -- and I don't regret the time or money I've invested in Dust/CCP -- but I doubt I will ever give CCP the opportunity to burn me a second time.
How are you burned??? They tried to make it work on the PS3. Well the PS3 can't hack it....and it will be seriously outdated hardware before long. If you want Dust to be a game that can persist for years and grow and achieve its full potential it has to be on PC. And from PC it can be ported to PS4 potentially.
You made all your efforts to develop your character for nothing? Logibro already said that if they possibly can transfer characters over from Dust to Dust 2, they will. They're not sure if or how it would work but they hope it will and will try. What more can you ask for??
I can understand the frustration of a lot of players that don't have a PC and/or don't want to lose their characters' progress but seriously, get over yourself just a little bit and have some appreciation for the fact that they are actually trying to make Dust into something truly awesome and competitive with all the upcoming next gen games.
No offense to those who don't own gaming computers--they are a significant investment--but Dust should be awesome enough to require more than what a PS3 can offer. To be a real working MMOFPS that has high level graphics, smooth connections, large battles, EVE integration, and all the rest, CCP needs it to be on PC so that they can do what only they can do. They've been stifled by the PS3's and Sony's limitations, but now they're free to make an amazing game.
As for skill point carryover/compensation for real money investment, I'm sure CCP will try their best to give us something to work with to start off. But hey, it's a new game! You have to start with a new character. If it's not enough of an improvement on Dust 514 then go play Destiny, but if it turns out to be an awesome realization of what Dust could be and is something totally new in gaming (which looks likely to me) then be grateful that this game that you love has become so much more, instead of focusing solely on the fact that you are inconvenienced. Change is hard people and sacrifices have to be made but it's worth it! |

I agree with what a lot of people are saying here and on the forums in general.
I have noticed several vets coming out to talk about their thoughts. I appreciate the responses everyone.
Feel free to add me on PSN still if you guys want to play other games. PSN is ElectricBodily
To answer a lot of what has been said;
- I think they should move to the PC or something else in general, I think I can speak for most of the community when I say, it would be way better on a next gen console or PC
- Obviously, a lot of us are hard console gamers, some mentioned they do not play PC games, I am in the same boat, I have grown up on a gaming console, never was the one to game on a PC unlike my father
- There is a huge difference between PC gamers and console gamers, although rewards are similar, our mindsets are extremely varied
- I hope to see a lot of people elsewhere, for those of you who stay, best of luck
Everyone in AE. knows my favorite quote, which SteelDark posted - fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me
I think that quote is extremely viable to the situation
Only thing I am waiting for is for FanFest to be over, and see if CCP actually announced anything for the longevity of this game besides a simple Project Legion escapade
Currently I am playing league of legends on my Mac, although I did say I do not play PC games. But this is a game my computer can support effectively and is free despite the micro transactions. Other than that, expect me on Destiny as I have always been a Bungie fanatic. If you play LoL, my username is; LickMyMudPump - lol
I will be changing that name soon, lol. I rarely play PC games and did not think I would like it but I have grown to love it.
See you all on the other side.

It sends a very loud message in a very arrogant tone: CCP does not care about their player base, though they do care about their $$. The only alternate explanation lends itself more to discussions of psychiatric diagnoses....
