Yeah, no.
As a designer, I'm always happy to get someone elses' take on inspiration, processes, and development, or really ANY tidbit of information someone is willing to share---something outside of the insular bubble that is my day job. Especially if it's directly connected to something I enjoy in both visual concept and style.
I don't care for spreadsheets. Remove Excel from the MS Office Suite.
=(
- me.

Admonishment wrote:I actually enjoyed the concept art, just wish there was more time to see more of it. To people that study and understand how much goes into art, what he does is amazing. It was sad to read some of the comments in the chat during the stream. Some which consisted of "its just random shapes" or " so we are watching someone do their hobby". People don't seem to understand you don't just immediately start drawing things in detail, you block images in using simple shapes until it is what you desire. Then you slowly add in detail over time. Good art is never rushed. People spend a very long time being able to do his level of work and it is not an easy thing to do. Any other person with little knowledge of art wouldn't be able to even block in the shapes as he did without struggling. A lot of people would love to be in the position he is in.
^lol yeah.
SORT of on topic: While I was in college studying fine art I remember talking to family during reunions or visits or such when they would ask me what I was studying. I would tell them, "painting" and their inevitable reply was, "what, like... houses?"

Creating concept art on the fly is very difficult and challenging - especially when you are not at your own desk but in Harpa, on Fanfest, on Live Stream, talking to the audience and trying to make something out of nothing in less than 60 minutes. As an ex-designer myself, I am highly interested at seeing what tools and how those tools the art team is using.
Additionally, tips from that session were very valuable for anyone interested in making concept art or generally using these tools at home. :)
So yeah - I understand that some players might not be overly excited with the live concept art creation - but it is something that's very unique and cool to see. Then again, if you really can't stand looking at live concept art creation, come back after 60 minutes and then you can move to another item on the stream schedule. I love concept art as much as the next guy, but doing a panel about the exact process of their creation seems a tad bit filler-y. It should just be slide show presenting their work and perhaps the steps they took from alpha to final product. But drawing it in front of the audience? C'mon...
