A grenade that releases a lot of smoke as it is being use.Your cross hairs doesn't turn red because you can't see where they are. However they will still show up on your mini map. When the smoke fades of course. This can be use for escaping the enemy who has you in lock. That or getting the jump on them with a nova knife. That's up to you though.Who wants it and will CCP allow this mmm Dev what of you eh |

-1, it would make domination on the one map (the one in which the objective is inside, but can be orbitaled because it has no roof, you know, the one in which some of the best firefights take place) even more hectic, with all the smoke grenades, and flux grenades, and locus grenades being tossed, it would just be chaos in which everyone just shoots randomly...
Actually, +1. I'm all for more chaos. Pew Pew!

Don't think current Dust could handle the effects necessary for smoke grenades. There's a lot of particle effects when it comes to grenades and Dust already runs awfully. |

Here is my take on it for a little concept/clarification. Hope you don't mind. Let me know if this is kind of what you are thinking or if I'm way off base. Also, OP/UP?
Smoke grenade releases smoke and covers an area for 35 seconds, increasing to 100% coverage over the first 5 seconds then gradually dispersing at 3.3% per second and covers 10-15-20 meters depending on std/adv/proto with the grenade being the epicenter of the smoke coverage. People will be unloading rounds into a cloud and having no clue if they are hitting or not (since, you know, no LOS to see the hit bar flashing and dropping.) This will give people time to get away or get to hiding to recover from a barrage.
The only thing I'm worried about is the 35 seconds. That may be a little long. Maybe cut it down to 25 seconds where the first 5 seconds it is building and then 5% for 20 seconds dispersion rate. I just want to make sure it is there long enough to make a difference. |

Also, agree that they should still show on the minimap since it won't effect the scanners. It is just a visual impairment. |

I would actually prefer for crosshairs to still be red. The amount of dispersion that comes off when hitting a cloaked scout is already hard enough to track to make it a challenge but doable to escape from. I feel the smoke should work the same way especially because if you used the smoke to begin with it's probably for one or two reasons:
1. gtfo, in which case your body isn't there to begin with. it would be funny to see people running through the smoke trying to melee tho. Either way, you aren't just going to be standing still in the smoke. Having crosshairs turn red makes it a challenge to use in the right way.
2. and how I really want this to work. To revive a fellow merc. This is where dragging a body would be the ultimate as laying down smoke, running in, dragging away, revive would be EPIC. But I can see smoke being a great thing for getting to teammates to turn the tide of the battle back in our favor.
Having no crosshairs would just create I think frustrating chaos. We'd have people shooting in all directions (FW would be even more horrible with that FF) and/or people running in and engaging in that super hard ultra CQC environment.
However, I would love to get some video of someone running into something in the smoke, thinking its a redberry and realizing afterwards that he's repeatedly hitting a wall he's just running into.

"How can you tell, KalOfTheRathi?", one might ask.
The answer is simple. Ideas that are years old keep popping back up in the Forums. Much like summer flicks filled with hordes of Zombies these undead ideas just keep coming, wave after wave.
Cross hairs are also activated when TacNet (which you might or might not remember) lets you know that the targeted enemy is within range. Seeing is less important to the computers in the TacNet.
Smoke grenades have been suggested many, many times. Possibly beyond measure. Surely beyond the simple search available in these forums.
Welcome to Dust. All over again.
And so it goes.

*sigh* I didn't say the smoke was a wall. I said it would be funny if while running through the smoke they ran into a wall and thought it was a redberry and started meleeing it.
As for the red crosshair on cloaks, I feel it's a correctly balanced system.

I guess I'm not understanding the point. As a logi, of course I would be using this for the purpose of helping the team. Especially if I can get that neat little needle to still show up so I can revive my teammates while under the cover of smoke. I do agree with one thing that has been mentioned, though.. The ability to drag someone at least behind a crate or corner would be a huge benefit.
I would be pissed if a guy who was getting chased threw one down just to escape getting killed instead of tactically using it. |
