It also has a much preferable damage profile to the AR - the damage profile is -5/+10 as opposed to +10/-10. Not only is it then barely penalised against shields but it does more damage against armour, which is a higher buffer type. It also has a fair bit more range.
Yeah so basically it's a better assault rifle. But clearly that's silly, so I expect that CCP will shift things around again eventually and then maybe there will be some point in switching between the two. I did play a bit with the Duvolle today though, and it wasn't so bad. I kind of like not emptying my clip so quickly, especially since the weapon switch tends to be really wonky for me (plenty of times I die because the weapon simply refuses to switch, which can be infuriating).
Quote: Lag is a sad problem in Dust, but it'll always be there. I carry flux so I can deal with obvious equipment spam in cities to reduce the lag. That's also another reason why the ACR is better - being able to spray so many more shots helps in a laggy situation.
Sadly it's already bad enough for me without equipment spam. I hear it's supposed to be even worse in PC, so I don't expect that I will touch it with a ten foot pole anytime soon. What I like about the scout role is that it's even better suited to staying on the outskirts far from the laggy hotspots, so for soloing this works pretty well.
Now I'm wondering about RE's, after seeing some video of scouts blowing up tanks with it. That looks like a blast, how feasible is it though? Did they put it on video because it was an incredibly lucky occasion, or is it actually viable to attempt this from time to time? |

REs are excellent. They're not always very viable for killing tanks but they can often be at least a useful deterrent. If a tank is stupid you may be able to kill him with them, but with the third person view on tanks they can actually see you putting remotes on them even if you sneak up on them from behind. They can also hear the arming noise, so generally they have to be pretty stupid to get a kill, or you have to lay a trap.
They also excel at anti-infantry. With a Gal or Cal scout you have very good passive scanning capabilities. This allows you to lay traps, and I would say that this is presently the best way of engaging heavies if you don't have a shotgun, and even then it's a good idea. You can hide an RE around a path that you think someone is going to go through, and then when you see them passing through on passive scan you can blow them up. The first few times you use it in a match tends to result in a kill, as most people aren't very cautious about them. People start to wise up about it after they get killed once or twice though or you start ripping groups apart with them.
They're also viable as suicide grenades sometimes. If you see a huge pack of enemies, you can consider getting out your remotes, charging in, and throwing them everywhere. IIRC it's still possible to trigger them after getting incapacitated if your clone isn't terminated, so you can run in, spam them as much as you can and then set them off as you go down. If you've got the knack for it you might not even die.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Back then I eventually settled on Caldari Assault. Ultimately, the "run and gun" style is what I do best, especially at close and medium range (aiming, situational awareness, reflexes). I like flanking with speed, but if I'm surrounded by a bunch of enemies I also want to have a fighting chance to deal with that situation. A shield tanked Caldari Assault with an assault rifle used to fit that bill perfectly.
So now I'm back to square one thanks to the re-spec for dropsuits. I still got proto AR so I will stick to that for now. Between the re-spec and passive SP I got 5 mil SP to spend, so I need to make some choices. My questions are simple:
Is there currently a rough loadout which is considered ideal for the run and gun style like the Caldari Assault used to be?
I am very tempted to run a scout since it sounds like they do well now, which of the scouts would you say is most focused on plain and simple gun game? My gut feeling says Gallente. Staying hidden sounds rather useful for this style, and armor tanking a scout sounds like it could be a good compromise between speed and survivability. Or is Caldari Assault still the best suit for this after all (FOTM aside)?
Also, which weapon would you recommend? I still got my SP in assault rifles so I will stick with it for now and I will try out the new weapons before I make a choice, but I'd still like to hear some opinions. I like versatility and range isn't a huge concern for me (usually I find it easier to outflank somebody on a distance than to go into a long-range shootout) so I expect that I will stick with the assault rifle.
Any other important things I need to be aware of (loadout related)?
I'll appreciate all serious replies, thank you! :)
Max Caldari Scout, Precision Enhancement, and Range Amplification. Spend your remaining SP in either the combat rifle, or your core skills.
EDIT: Also, spend the 12k SP for lvl 1 in cloaks, no further SP is required, this will allow you to cross open spaces safely as well as get the jump on those who haven't skilled into precision enhancement .

I have to agree with this. There's a role and playstyle for almost everyone at this point. Diversity is and is what what will continue to define this game as something great (lol)
