Upon un-cloaking, there needs to be a delay of 5 seconds before the cloaked unit can perform an offensive action(e.g. firing a weapon, melee attacks, priming a grenade, or detonating a remote).
I usually encourage different play-styles, but there is no effective counter to things like the cloaked shotgun user. |

At the moment I would agree, though in the future I would like to see something that can counter all levels of sensor dampening such as a Radar MAV so such a crippling restraint isn't necessary. |

5 secs seems cripplingly long, maybe 3 secs. Even 3 secs is a eternity. Plus this hits shotgun scouts the hardest while barely touching the ACR scout.
Same should apply for getting out of LAVs though. |

I agree with the concept of a delay after decloaking (this would parallel Eve mechanics), but 5 seconds might be a little long. Maybe make it 5 seconds by default and scouts get a reduction? I just think that's a little too long for a light frame to be exposed and vulnerable. Something closer to 2 seconds would probably be better; that way the person the scout is trying to get the jump on would have time to see him pop up on the minimap and react, but if he isn't on his toes he can still get shotgunned to death.

Day 1 of 1.8 I would have agreed with you. But over time, I've gotten used to looking for the shimmer. All scouts' shimmer can be seen, and they can be shot, long before they get within shotgun range. Keep in mind, scouts have fitting limitations when they fit a cloak.
If they have a tank, they are either slow, and/or have poor dampening, so a precision enhancer or two, and you can shoot the cloaked bastards, since you'll see their chevrons. Precision enhancers are underused, and undervalued (Mostly because they have to be paired with a range amp or two) but work wonders.
If they fit for speed or dampening they are giving up tank. This ensure they can be killed with minimal damage. Mass drivers are a cloaked scouts worst nightmare, as you don't have to be precise, and don't have to know exactly where they are to kill them in one or two shots. |

I see cloaks as being for movement, not for suddenly attacking people from cloak. Being able to attack instantly on decloaking is stupid.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

+1.
DnD basics here invisibility removes when a hostile action is taken. So drawing your weapon is a hostile action. and then you would have to "recast the spell" there in giving you position away. CCP should go back and read the basic to DnD and then come back to make a game free of these cheap BS cloaks. |

Firing before cloak wears off and then immediately re cloaking with no need wait for cooldown Is the problem.. using eyes is not the problem it's the extra dampening from the cloak masking radar for anyone besides enhanced Calscouts.. |

In an open map, sure, but in close quarters there's too many obstacles to guarantee a clear view of a cloaked unit.
And how visible are they when they're standing still? After they turn that corner you'll never know where they are until they shoot you in the back, and once they get that first shot, your death is almost certain.
The top cloakers in this game are nearly unstoppable, there is no effective counter to someone utilizing cloaks to the fullest. |

Don't put yourself in situations where it can happen, and you drastically reduce the chance of it happening. Eyes + situational awareness are underrated in this game since 1.8 dropped. |

This is spoken from the perspective of a casual game of ambush.
That advice doesn't apply when there are three objectives located in close quarters in a Planetary Conquest match.
Your advice in that situation(not being near the objectives) would result in a loss. |

Riiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhhttt.... so instead of you just getting the smurf outline to shoot the guy also has visibility of minimum 5s before attacking? No I think not. He can already be invisible and clearly seen, shot, blown up and run over. Use your eyes, I do.

Why not something moderate like 0.5-1 sec calibration delay, no one want's to over nerf the cloak but threads and ideas like this are the reason the flaylock is what is today.

Maybe an explanation is in order. If you have ****** skills in scan precision you will not see scouts. If you do not fit to see scouts you won't see scouts. They put the modules in for a reason, try them out and you may find that your success rate goes up. Use your eyes, if the scout is hard to see that is because he is supposed to be hard to see. Just because you don't doesn't mean that the cloak is OP, it just means you are running fail fit for the match you are playing. HTFU.

I usually encourage different play-styles, but there is no effective counter to things like the cloaked shotgun user. I know that you took this idea from eve, but in eve cloak is real, and here in dust it is something like camouflage more likely. What I mean is that you are all the time visible for watchful eye of your enemy, and something close to real invisibility occur for short amout of time only when you stand still - it's not something identical like in eve because enemy can detect you, and eliminate you by his cross(that switch color to red).
Implementing such mechanic would be too harmful for scouts. Current ""cloaks"" already allow everyone to detect your presents.
I'm here since may 2012, my EVE alter ego is Nosum Hseebnrido.

^^^^^^^^
I didn't read the whole thread because these discussions make my head hurt.
Most people doesn't use cloaks so they don't realise there is a delay if you press R1 but the delay is bypassed if you just switch weapon.
No one has really come up with any evidence to prove this isn't a glitch, or provided any argument to explain why one method has a delay and one has no delay.
If anything this should be in the technical support section.
Actually, Yan Darn that's a great idea, you should get onto that...
