A IRL buddy is coming back to dust to give it a second try! Yay!
He wants to play a CQC assault class, I thought directly that the assault class is gimped...
Should I tell him to go minmatar assault or clearing scout with SMG and CR?

Definitely this. ACRs are way powerful right now, you'll mow down everything. And the SMG makes up for the the ammo, the one weakness to the ACR.

If he wants to use both a rifle and shotgun, might I suggest Gal commando? He can run both at the same time, have decent eHP, and gets passive damages to both weapons to boot. |

This is the way i'd go, only thing about that gimped minnie suit is that it's sp hungry for passive skills to make it viable - he's going to have to be very careful with his sp.
And if he want's to run a damper....

Ask him what his favorite rifle is(tell him to test them out on his other account slots)
Tell him he can run a bonused rifle AND A backup shotgun for anti-scout/stupid heavies
For instance- Min Commando has a bonus to Mass Driver/Combat rifle, has speed relative to an amarr assault, and has crazy stamina, 10% shotgun damage isn't entirely useful in the long run, so you're not penalized too heavily for not running racial commando, and you gain an AoE weapon bonus, and a Cqc/urban rifle that is devastating.
Galmando would be for if he wants to be a dedicated CQC slayer that murders all but heavies: Plasma cannon for AV/Aoe, shotty for counter-scout/stupid heavies, and AR for a low cost CQC rifle(ACR is like 20k, whereas AR has a full auto variant at basic.)
Amarr Commando has that brilliant HP pool, but probably isn't very suited for CQC given low regen and long range weaponry.
Calmando is actually a pretty decent one, given you ignore it's bonuses. High shields + decent regen and reload bonus makes it kinda the Minmando's brawler buddy, albeit it's bonuses are for much longer ranged weaponry.
Edit: Galassault/minassault are going to be buffed soon, so he could skill thrm now and be oober OP in a month or 2
For instance- Galassault is going to have its' bonus changed from hipfire/recoil redcution to Dps or something, and the Minassault is going to get another low slot(don't try to argue this, caldari is already the 1 low slot race)

If he can use KB/M I reccomend Gallente Assault with the Plasma rifle as it'll be super accurate and you can get so close that melee will be a viable option yet still be accurate with hipfire. Great for eliminating scouts.

Gallente Commando 5
Shotgun Proficiency 5
Damage Amps 5
AR Proficiency 5
Use a Tac AR, Fed specialist Shotgun, Comp Light DMG amp, on an ADV Commando and you'll get 1001 DPS out of your shotgun. litterally 2 to 3 shots from the shotgun will take out even the brickest tankiest amarr sentinel while the tac can be used to take out targets further out.

So you're saying my 25-3 match with Tac AR w/ shotgun using KBM didnt happen because its obviously an ineffective combination? This was on the objective in the Gallente Labs in Domination by the way. More kills came from the Tac AR than the shotgun.

If you REALLY wanted to tank a scout, use Calscout. Lame a** playstyle but you can get 600+ total HP.

It's like you dont want to get the most out of your weapons. While using equipment from other factions may not matter to the suit unless you're a logi, racial parity does matter a lot, especially on the assault and commando suits. It grinds my gears when people use commandos with non racial weapons on them, then complain about how the suit sucks.
