Short version: do people like having them and are they helpful?
So i've been playing for about 2 months, loving Dust. I've branched into Minmatar commando because it suits me well and I have been loving the Mass Driver/Combat Rifle combo. During the accelerated SP week, i branched out and tried Logi for the first time. I have the Templar Logi BPO, so had a 2/2/2 suit to play with, sporting militia injector and repair.
I had a blast. Heck, i had one match where I had 27k SP earned because of a really tough, long corridor fight. I had some 7k Hp repaired.
Still, we'be all bewn rezzed by that guy only to be shot before we even stand. Hell, I'm made that logi mistake too.
So is it worth it to skill into logi? Do people like having logi in the squad or is it a pain? Is minmatar logi a good choice? |

I love having a Gallente logi V + active scanner in my squad. Caldari logi nanohives are amazing, and if I was an armor tanker I bet Minmatar rep tools would be equally badass.
So yeah, I find them helpful.

A good logi can mean the difference between victory and defeat. They are best used in corridors where they can take cover and still rep units in-front of him. Maps that are out in the open, not so much. On an open map there is more engage, retreat, engage, retreat, etc. As a rep logi I have the most difficulty on open maps because of tanks. |

I find that if there's a bit of cover, or the distance great enough, I can still play an active roll repping in an open map. I just have to keep moving. But with said,i'm not nearly as effective as I am on a map with cover around.
The problem I have encountered is heavies that forget they are a heavy suit. In a match earlier this week, i was logi broing a heavy as we ran along the thin side of the small bridge (not the bridge map, but the small bridge that goes across the road in the map that is from 1.3 or earlier). I was using him as my cover and repping him likely crazy as he mowed down 2 medium and light suit guys. He came up against a heavy that had no logi bro repping him and rather than sit and take the damage, he tried to strafe around the heavy, leaving me exposed. The other heavy was smart enough to immediately mow me down.

when I'm repping a heavy at 80 HP a second, I can't imagine my almost completely unspeced CR being the right way to turn the tide, particularly when my gun game is just ok. Plus, I feel that if I stop repping and start shooting, I am leaving the heavy in the lurch. the exception is when the opponent is out of range of his HMG, but in my CR's range. In that case, I should try to cover him a bit as we retreat.

NICE Thread!!!
Nice to see us players are learning the POWER of the Logi-role in this game.
Nice to see players recognize the bone-head mistakes that budding Logi and Support players make---and forgive 'em for it....their still learning. Cool!
Killing lots of red dots is GOOD in this and most games. But OWNING the battlefield right out from under the red dots through covering and shielding teammates, doing the "guardian" rep on our fatties, hoping that dying merc can hold out JUST A FEW SECONDS so you can revive him in the clear instead of braving the idea that the reds won't hose you with your red-cross helmet on.... THAT's glory only DUST 514 delivers for me.
I very much value the true-logi suit roles (Mim, Cald, etc) as well as the lesser talked about "Artificer" roles that players like me create by cobbling together pimped suits with pimped support vehicles. Glad to see so many others paraise Logi. If you folks are acheiving such success in these small matches,... imagine how POWERFUL your skills will be in a full-blown PC match (when PC gets all the bugs out...). |

It's a balance, the best logis out there know how to do it. If I was to offer advice to any logi out there it would be to not fall into the trap of thinking KDR doesn't matter. Dying a lot doesn't make you a good logi.

logi's are extremely good to have on your side in a fight.
they have different strengths, but you seem to identify them best with medical support. the Minmatar is indeed the best medic of the bunch.
Logi strengths: Caldari: Best when it comes to nanohives, they get more uses at a higher restoration rate. Amarr: Best at drop uplinks, theirs bring you into the fight faster, and last longer. Minmatar: Repair tool gods. Gallente: Best scanners.
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

I'm not claiming to be one of the best but my ALT is no slouch.
If the Sentinel is using cover for pop-out attacks or running point with numerous damage zones the endless repping is definitely best.
If the area is semi open I prefer my weapon out for combined DPS and save the Rep Tool for health topping.
To muddy the waters some the Mass Driver can be out almost all the time since bank-shots can add outgoing DPS or clear hostile deployed Equipment. There are many blue-dots who owe their lives to my Combat Engineer who cleared REs or broke a red-do'ts Rep Hive position.

To be honest, I don't think I've found that balance yet. up until recently, my kdr on matches was usually positive, but rarely good. I at least need to improve my gun game, situational awareness, and tactics. I mainly run solo, so I imagine the last one would be easier to improve if I started running in squads more. Probably the best way to improve my gun game is to play a non-logi role for a while. |

I love them when they're actually performing their intended role. As a heavy it makes me sad to sit in a corner with 63 armor left and watch countless logi's run by and it's even worse when it's a Minmatar logi; why the fck don't you have a rep tool? Or when I'm shooting at them with my side arm and switching between it and my main weapon; I'm not doing it because it's the cool thing to do, throw down a hive man.

when soloing in min logi either fit 3 sets of uplinks or remotes and links (even a hive to refill your remotes)
use thesuit to drop links in strategic areas and remotes for traps or defending null cannons, combine it with an LAV for fast travel and you are a force to be wrecking with (play on words there for you grammar *****...)

Very true. I don't generally spend the whole match repping, it's more a situational thing for me. But when I do, what keeps me from switching to my weapon more often is the damn wheel. R2 never seems reliable enough either. Drives me crazy.

Nah, I like supporting my team, not just myself. My gun game is getting better but I still have some learning. I already brick tank my logi anyways to keep my health up while I hop around keeping my big teddy bear alive.
Seymor Krelborn wrote: i agree the min logi is awesome, I disagree its a poor solo suit...
I guess I just see logis in general being a better support medium than any other option out there to solo. If I wanted to solo better, I just run my scout with a CR, remotes and some other tool that fits my fancy at the moment. I'm not saying you can't be successful, just that it wouldn't be my recommended path to go solo in. However, that's the absolutely beauty of this game. Diversity is king!

Yeah, it seems like the perfect weapon to go a fully support roll. AoD, kill in cover (your team puts them there, you make sure they don't come out again), render clones unrevivable, wipe out equipment in positions, soften enemies: all support functions when running with a squad. The only problem is that it can be useless when attacking a raised position.
I don't find it a good weapon to run solo unless I am doing hit and run AoD or as a complement to a CR on my min commando fit. I also have to get better at aiming. I have only used it significantly over the commando event, so my aim is still not that good.

thanks for posting this.
Regarding this: "This is your call, make it fast. If the area is free of reds go for it. If the area is still hot you may have some killing to do. Rezzing under fire is a rookie mistake that most players will get really annoyed by. A special case here would be if you have a proto needle and are rezzing a heavy. Getting the fat man back on his feet at 80% armor can be a real **** you to the bad guys."
When a good portion of my team is engaging from cover (jumping from one or both sides of cover to take shots, until eHP is low and then jumping back in cover), if the situation fits, I just sit behind cover and rep. I only jump out to take shots when there is a lull in the repping. I also frequently revive during the fight in this situation because I can usually get them back into cover before they take too much damage.

I'm sad to say I used to find them far more useful; however the logi role has devolved into either spam equipment everywhere before switching to a slayer fit or attach yourself to a heavy and hold onto the leash for dear life.
I'm an Assaul player, GalAss to be exact, and I'm at the bottom of the list of priorities when it comes to supporting. I have to build my suits to be self sufficient, High amoro repair rate, carry my own nanohives, put on a dampener or scanner when needed, etc. the only time a logi notices me is when the heavy is dead or we don't have one, scouts don't need ammo, and they dont have acces to a supply depo. They go "Oh you have armor! Stand infront of me and soak up bullets while I rep you."
Remember Assault players Logis, we need support too. :(

Here's a question for everyone: whether to shield AND armor tank your min logi. The shield tank to me is very obvious, but I personally still tank my armor a bit. On an adv suit, I run one enhanced plate, one basic plate, and 1 complex armor rep. (Once I get some of my equipment up to level 5, I might drop the enhanced plate to a second basic to give me more PG). I find my speed suffers a bit, but I can still run faster than most of the medium and heavy suits because lots of people use plates. I find the extra eHP and having two types of tanking to counter weapons designed for taking down shields or armor (MD, LR, SCR, etc) is useful since I frequently become the target when I am repping a heavy. |

Maybe if they actually repped me rather than leaving me with half health after reviving me I would respect them more.

I try to rep everyone, even gal scouts. I am more likely to rep an amar heavy first, but hey, they probably have way more armor than you do and can soak damage if we get ambushed while I am repping other people.

Yeah, that's bad form. Admittedly, there are times where I revive and don't rep right away. One is when there are 2-3 dead clones in close proximity to each other and I think it is safe to revive them all. I then get to repping afterwards. That lets everyone's shields come back sooner and avoids someones clone perma-dying before I get to reviving them. Sometimes people run way while they wait so i can't rep them. |

I'm fine with that; my problem is the Logis who sit there with their rep tool on a heavy despite the fact that they aren't even in combat, all the while I have a clip and a half of ammo left with a fourth my full armor.

You'll not see that with me around. I have this OCD thing with health bars. I'm always chasing you jokers around, like "hey dumbass your health bar is only 94%! Come back here!"

Be'e Po wrote:Short version: do people like having them and are they helpful?
Is minmatar logi a good choice? yes because there so rare few logis always score the most war points and to carry equipment effeciantly |
