Been running into a ton of players like kl0w lately, all just standing in the MCC or wherever they spawn in, and spending the entire game doing squats. His 0.04 kdr is impressive, but... |

Most of the time its better that players like that sit in the MCC and AFK. Its 10+ more clones your team will have to try to pull out the win. |

Yup, yesterday morning we had 4 all doing that in the MCC. It's definitely helpful when you're already facing up against q-synched DNS teams every second game, who needed that other squad anyways? |

It is hard to solve it would seem. Many ideas have been formulated on these forums by Mercs that either cannot code or understand coding. Plus, none of us actually have the code so who knows what might work and which simple idea will take three solid months of engineering.
They did the Merc must be moving every so often thing and our AFK legion solved it with rubber bands. Effective.
The game only really counts one thing. SP. Everything else counts for naught. With SP you get better gear, use less PG/CPU and have more fun killing your friends and neighbors in New Eden.
If you don't have enough SP to get to the next level that you are interested in, well AFK. Forge Guns don't work, AFK. Heavy suits gonna get Nerf Hammered AFK. Bored with the daily/weekly cap that never got the roll-over it was promised to get (this SP cap solutions was a place holder, BTW) AFK.
And nothing has solved it so far. In FW you can Friendly Fire them to death but it does come at a cost. How many are AFK in FW anyway?
Good Luck.
And so it goes.

The only way to stop AFK'ing is to remove passive SP gain from being alive.
CCP won't do that though, because a lot of players wouldn't be able to cap out then.

Good Luck. Kal, it's trivially easy to solve. I honestly believe that when CCP told us that the anti-AFK solution was 'rubber-band proof' they were lying through their teeth - i'm not blaming the dev who worked on the mechanic because they were probably being told what to say in no uncertain terms.
It is simply not credible that they did not foresee a simple rubberband or weight on a thumbstick as a workaround.
My opinion is that CCP is afraid, and believes that they can't afford to get rid of AFKing because it would cost them too many players. The Faustian bargain they struck by pumping out bad code is now affecting every decision they make.
I support SP rollover.

I agree, but I still think there needs to be some passive in battle sp. If a newberry out of academy winds up on a team of veterans, which is pretty common, then he's likely to get almost no active wp, unless he gets forced into being a support role. That takes all of the sandbox and choose-your-own-adventure out of the game, and leaves them with playing a role that they have no interest in, or just not playing anything and waiting on passive sp. |

The question is, why do people AFK? They don't want the grind, but they want their SP, right? So to me, the answer is simple. Sell SP as a direct purchase (I would pay 5 bucks for 1 million SP). I'm guessing that people would be more likely to buy SP that way than boosters.
That would most likely end the prevalent AFK epidemic.
It would ease the NPE. Spend about $60 and have a decently well rounded skill set.
The community frowns heavily on this, since most value their time grinding away, but IMO, they are idiots.

so i still have to grind out the SP that i purchase? would rather just pay a sub
simple fix is to cut the 5sp per second BS. the only real feasible reason it's there is so ideally casuals can recieve a pat on the back from CCP for not playing well, the symptom of that failed concept is rampant AFKing.

I personally would hope that CCP has better things to do with their time then to address AFKing. I would like to see:
Bug fixes New content Player market New vehicles Literally anything before wasting time on an AFK "fix".
These people wouldn't be doing squats in the MCC if there was enough content to actually be entertained. Some people AFK in the hopes that the game will suck less down the road. And CCP needs the player numbers so I hate to break it to ya but they couldn't care less so long as people are logging on and buying Aurum.
I spent half my ISK on gambling, alcohol and wild women. The rest I wasted.

The entire War Point system is horribly flawed. Passive SP is supposed to partially fill the gap of what a player should have gotten. We tried War Points only SP in closed Beta and it failed.
Everyone here who said improve/fix the game experience nailed the answer.

You should not even consider this as a possibility. CCP/Mothership drives EVE with Only Passive SP. No active WP or SP. You would not get EVE players to play Dust without passive SP. And the many gods know that EVE and its Pod Peeps are the best thing in the world to CCP/Mothership. That and their monthly rental fees ... so they can get their Passive SP.
Removing Passive SP is not going to happen. Now if Passive SP was the only solution and you could get Passive SP without having to log in, that might just work. But as long as there is Active SP then there will be AFK.
Plus, as stated above, FOTM or reactions to Day 1 OP gear/weapons will always drive AFK (and sniping as mentioned). Since this game is supported by CCP/Shanghai there will always be Day 1 OP bits.
Welcome to Dust
And so it goes.

Everyone here who said improve/fix the game experience nailed the answer. I want to add a command order, 'Hold Territory' that would reward with 1 WP per second, 2 WP if it is a Null Cannon Control. The Defend order is fine for what it does but the circle isn't large enough to support/hold a Null Cannon.
Several releases ago my alt heavy would routinely hold Charlie in Manus Peak (Jesus Mountain map). By himself using a HMG and a breach SMG. If he could hold it for the entire match we would win. I didn't make top of the list but we won. I quit doing that because CR/RR Day 1 OP weapons made it much too expensive to run a Heavy after his HMG was gutted. I was doing better with the SMG for range kills.
And so it goes.

The problem is the EVE model is Only Passive SP and you don't have to do anything online except farm ISK. Until you reach the level you want.
Changing one portion of the Dust SP/WP solution is just wrong. How do you balance the QQ Kittens that want to limit tank to two per map. Fine, then I'll AFK until it is my turn to drop my tank. BTW, I want SP while I am waiting my turn to play this match.
Just play your own game.
And if these QQ Kittens can drop their Grandmother's busy body nature Dust would be a lot better. They should quit trying to play other people's games for them. Because they are just trying to have CCP/Shanghai stab them in the back for them.
Or, we can just pick a daily change at random from these QQ filled forums. Different one everyday! Log in and see what you won't be able to do!
