This just in: Extremely old news.
Also CCP's Research and Development went up to around 57 million USD opposed to 16 million USD the year before, so year of course they are going to "lose" some money now. CCP's not in a bad situation at all, they are simply planning for the future.

Spending on the size of the company and their cash reserves it really might not be. Sony as a whole loses more than that every quarter I believe

Nothing. Most businesses make a 'loss', CCP has been developing eve, dust, they've spent on the startup for Valkyrie (things like this cost money), they're potentially working on an eve tv series and in order to do that they've been doing a collection of player stories as comics with dark horse (I believe).
a 21m loss in 2013 doesn't mean crap - it will only mean something when they've had that loss for 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.... and even then it probably won't mean anything if they're successful with the things that they've made in those years. You don't grow a business without spending money.
Watch a few shows about how businesses actually run and you'd realize that numbers like this can be obfuscated so much that they mean *nothing*.

That lose takes into account code that they no longer feel can make money. It is like a building that no longer holds value and needs to be taken down. This code, is likely the World of Darkness code. Which I am sure a at least a few million was dumped into. |

Companies can stay afloat just fine while making a 'loss' every quarter if they're throwing what they made into developing new projects, properties and hiring more staff. If they're working under a parent company they get investment money from there and it can take quite a bit of time to see monetary returns on investments.
Screaming about how doomed the company is when you (seemingly) have no legitimate understanding of how businesses operate is just idiotic. A 21 million loss means they spent money on projects, R&D, properties, and potentially cancelled things that were stuck in development hell.

So you missed the Morpheus/Valkyrie to be on PS4 announcement? That a potential of at least 1 million more players if adoption of Morpheus is about 10% of total PS4s by the time the peripheral is released (I'm assuming their will be a total of at least 10 million PS4s sold by that time)

The loss was almost entirely due to writing off some capitalised assets; the assets in question were very probably the World of Darkness work-in-progress.

Also they did not lose a thing. The 21 million dollars was thanks to a devaluation of a previous asset that no longer has that value which we now know was the World of Darkness code.
The valuation of that was removed and shifted to R&D expenses so that it may be used as a tax write off. |

If a company plans to make 50M this year, and only make 40M, they effectively "lost" 10M..
