I wouldn't be worried about it until it happens about 5 years in a row. There are hundreds of reasons for the loss and they don't always mean they lost real money.
Like when the Government says they aren't going to increase spending by 2% this year and every who doesn't like it says they cut funding by 2%. Same type of deal.

Actually, even if it happens five years in a row it still doesn't necessarily mean anything, as they could be throwing more money than they 'have' into 'growth' which would mean there's investors.

Welp, developing 3 'games' on one server. Researching methods to improve said server (TDI, Brain in a box). tangible assets like the collectors edition, books games toys (making limited runs of things in real life takes an acutal metric fck of research) as well as the damn monument and all their charity work.

you spend money on R&D and if it works out you cash in. when it doesnt you write it off and move onto something else.
look at it this way if ccp can afford to continue the development of 3 games and wipe out 21M in assets (unused code etc) thats a good thing. they could just as easily cut everything but eve which is its big earner and make loads or profit but ccp isn't like that. they like to make things bigger and better and are not afraid to throw their own profits at it even if what they come up with doesn't work.
just look at all those companies out there with only a single franchise to work with. how many of those have gone poof because they had nothing to fall back on. ccp are not stupid. they are not going to run themselves into the ground
besides writing off unused assets from the books is just good business
