There's a better way.
This.
Are you fking serious?, force people to play with the single minded run and gun trash?, I don't think so. Create a solo scrub mode where the idiots can all run around solo together.

The idiots who run solo are comprised of nearly all new players and a good majority of those already well versed to the game.
And your point being????, absolutely nothing. Solo only mode is the closest you will get to being taken seriously on this.

If you were a new player, which option out of the two most adversely affects your playing experience?
-Fighting against several organized corp squads in a single public match?
-Fighting against 16 randoms of ADV and Proto users?
If organised then you'd die in groups.
If random youy lose almost every 1 on 1 encounter for the whole match.

The idiots who run solo are comprised of nearly all new players and a good majority of those already well versed to the game. This is not true. I tend to run solo very often. Always with an unlocked squad in squad finder. It's not my fault newberries don't join my squad. Often times I even join other squads of newberries in the beginning of matches, most of the time they spend the first 5 minutes traversing terrain by foot then get gunned down within seconds of reaching anywhere near an objective. The problem with newberries isn't just the NPE but also their general lack of FPS skills, IMO. If you are any good at any other FPS game Dust shouldn't be that difficult to pick up. Maybe a few weeks of learning map layouts, pinch points, typical player movement around maps, etc. There is absolutely no reason to take squads out of public matches. It would strip this game of the little fun it has left.
Its because its free to play so most of the new players now will be casually casual gamers, the kind who like farmville etc lol, then they get ruined because this free to play game isn't that casual.

The only difference this would make is you'd get gangked by randpms rather than squads, you'd probably die quicker vs squads so enjoy that and here's the obligatory git gud htfu stfu lol.

im assuming OP gets pawned by coordinated squads since he isnt in a squad and so is butt hurt from dying to those squads, and now to justify his pain and suffering he wants all pub games to have no squads.
Most likely ambush as well because in skirmish or Dom you'd still get gangked at the objectives anyway.

Sometimes it was really fun running around and teleporting into people to kill them, other times it was just stupid to see so many allies/enemies get killed in the meat grinder of a teleporter and have their guts and pieces explode out onto the rest of the map.
It just depended who you played with, if you played in organised servers then it was a much higher level of play. Random servers were always a clusterfk.

There's a better way. Lol someone in DNS is concerned that the playerbase is being denied something. Irony. The OP has a point. Squads have their place in FW or Planetary. Not in Public Contracts. KingBabar wrote: Without the banter of friends and the customary QQ about lag or someone killing you with a scrub tactic what are you left with?
Implement this and the playerbase will drop drastically in term of numbers....
Whats wrong with having your banter in a more competitive mode? Why cant you take your ambitions to the next level, instead of taking them down the basic level? Progression instead of regression? i disagree. It would expand the player base, as it would make the casual oriented Public Contracts cater more to casual players, and thus, would improve player retention.
My opinion: Squads ruin the NPE. Its all about having options. With the current setting, you have no options. I dont see why when you have 3 game modes, they all have to have the exact same team settings. FW are more focused and impact New Eden on a larger scale. Focused, localized teamwork is essential in those modes. Public Contracts is supposed to be "join, play a quick match". It for people who dont have the time, energy, or dedication to "get into" the game. Its supposed to be the entry level to the game. if people have fun in Public Contracts and want to invest more time into the game, then they can take it to the next level. The easiest way to tell if something is OP or broken is when the only counter for it is to do it too. In order for something to be balanced, it has to have a counter. Any skill discrepancies or balance issues are magnified and aggravated by squads in Public Contracts. Squads in Public Contracts only cater to the lowest common denominator; People who couldn't win 1vs1 fights so they go get 5 friends to help them fight 6vs1. Or people who no friends who hope the system forces people into their squads so they can have someone to talk to. Ive stubbornly refused to squad up because I refuse to be part of the problem. I am a mercenary, not some army grunt who wants to take orders and be subservient. i make my own fortunes. I can roll solo just fine and still be successful. But im also a former PC gamer with alot of FPS and F2P experience. Patience and determination are skills Ive learned over time. New players though, who are generally console FPS players? They dont have that kind of patience and determination. Everyone of my console friends Ive referred to this game has given up on it. They want to be able to just sign it, knock off an hour or two of play, and sign off. They dont want to spend time getting into a squad, listen to a bunch of teenagers brag about smoking weed, and then go on to play one sided games where you just sit around hoping the other team with less squads eventually leaves its red line. TL;DR: Squads hurt player retention, and if player retention is hit too hard, you wont have to worry about squads, cause there will be no game to have them in.
So then maybe they should go play bf or cod?. In what game that's focussed on teamwork and guilds/clans do you get people whining that its based on just that???????. Only in dust.

Well, the problem with that is if everyone followed your advice, you would end up with an empty game. Infact, the opposite should be the goal; This game should be trying to siphon off the players from BF or COD. If that means that the entry level gamemode has to be more tailored for their casual tastes then so be it. People need to go through entry level to see if they want to stick around to take it to the next level. DUST514 is not a charity. Its a profit seeking venture from a gaming company. They arent doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, they are doing it to make money. Consider just how saturated the FPS market is on the console. DUST is competing against all these other games for player share and revenue. To increase its chances and to give it an edge, they made it F2P but with micro transactions. A robust player base with high retention is the key to turning a profit in a F2P game. If they cant turn a reasonable profit because people like you told all their sources of revenue to take their money elsewhere, they will shut the game down. Its that simple. This is not EVE where you have players with subscriptions who have years worth of investments. DUST is young, and walking away from it is easy. As for teamwork, im not asking for a FFA mode with no teams. You would still be able to communicate with the 15 other players on your team. You would still be able to have squad level combat in FW and Planetary. if anything, restricting squads to FW and Planetary would actually breathe new life into those modes.
You enjoy generalised hypes don't you. No it wouldn't, it'd just stop people playing with their corp mates, a solo only mode I can agree with but don't go saying options are important and then try to justify taking one away. You say options are important??, then a solo only game mode as an added option would work, not taking away the option to squad up.
You also say that this is a business venture?. Well for starters, gratz on pointing out the obvious, everything is a business venture. I have spent over -ú1000 on this game since beta. Removing squads will not 'breathe life' into the game, it'll annoy the dedicated players who have built friendships in the game because they can't play with their buddies. The best way I believe is to extend the academy time and have a solo only gamne mode. That's one extra option and extra time in the academy.
Or, we could remove squads from pubs because you know, options matter.

And let's say hypothetically that a solo game mode existed. There'd just be QQ over mobs of proto stompers gangking rather than proto squads gangking.
Let's go a step further and say we had this solo game mode AND no proto is allowed, it'd just be more QQ from mlt/std users about ADV users.
Let's go all the way and say that only mlt is allowed in the solo only mode, it'd be fresh mlt scrubs whining about maxed passive skills.
