If you were a new player, which option out of the two most adversely affects your playing experience?
-Fighting against several organized corp squads in a single public match?
-Fighting against 16 randoms of ADV and Proto users? As a new player once long ago what I did my first match was exactly as you stated. I ran solo and got my ass killed. Next match, did I join a squad? No. Instead what I did was saw somebody's name, laughed at it, and said "I'm sticking with you" and for the rest of the match tried to stay next to that guy. Hard because sometimes I died and sometimes he/she died, but that was the plan. Instantly did better.
My point is, if you do not have a squad, it does not mean that you do not run like a squad. Even if CCP stupidly thought about removing squads from pub matches, it wouldn't matter because people naturally tend to move together and stick together. Some people, like myself, choose to do so because it increases chance of surviving longer.
Not only that, but if you remove squads/squad work then you'd lose Logis real fast, you'd lost passive and active scanners real fast, you'd lose the AV guys real fast because one guy really can't go on a single tank any more. It would pretty much destroy all the CCP put in Dust and probably the future of the game itself.
Are you being killed by squads a lot? Sure, but there are many ways of getting around it. Be smart, join a squad, work with other players, just explosives, advantage points, remove key members of enemy squads (passive scan scouts and logis)... think about how to better yourself and not how to damage the game.

Sometimes it was really fun running around and teleporting into people to kill them, other times it was just stupid to see so many allies/enemies get killed in the meat grinder of a teleporter and have their guts and pieces explode out onto the rest of the map.

If you still lose in your protosuit to their protosuit then this isn't the game for you. The majority of kids running around in proto in pub matches aren't that great. You'll run into some good squads now and again, but it's not a 24/7 occurrence. Most of those real good players don't need proto to kill you anyways, they use it for lulz and because they can. ME! ME! I love killing proto suits in my basic suit! Proto suits do not make the player, good skill does... and on occasion good connection/less lag does.
