I have literally NO idea why, but apparently, (not sure exactly when) CCP changed the Dropship collision damage to make them even more sensitive to landing and collisions with objects. My only question is why the hell they would do such a thing, when just a few months before they had re-adjusted it to where it actually made sense and worked. Now, if I'm landing, I have to literally be as careful as possible, because if I go 3 mph faster than a near stand-still landing, I'll loose more than half of my shield.
Before, the bottom of your dropship was considered the "tough" side of it, since it needs to make quick landings and take-offs to ferry troops in distress or land to drop uplinks. I used to only loose around 200-500 shield HP when doing a "quick" landing, but that has since quadrupled since this change to collision damage.
And this isn't the worst part; now users are taking ramming as a serious tactic, since these dropships have become that much more sensitive to collisions. I have seen literally 4 pilots in 3 sessions all try to just ram my dropship in an incubus instead of shoot at it. Being a veteran pilot, these kids are seriously ruining the actual intention of what an Assault dropship is made to do, and they take advantage of their armor buff as a buffer to survive the collision (even though no incubus survived running into me).
CCP, what the hell were you thinking when you yet again changed the collision damage for dropships? I assumed you learned from your lesson when you tortured us pilots for over an entire year, making us pay 1.5 million ISK for every single glass-cage dropship you gave us, but now you decide to make them fragile yet again, without warranting a reason for doing so.

And I love my Python. That's what frustrates me even more, these rammers are often using Assault dropships, making them appear to be a serious pilot, when in reality its just an 8 year old kid in disguise that activates his afterburner right into the side of your hull... It's pathetic man.

I have no idea how you fly Caldari, if I even graze a leaf I lose all my shields and armor and crash. Gallente ADS, I can run into a wall at top speed and survive. Yes, my skills are roughly equal in both |

Well, NOW their sheilds are apparently weak as hell, but they used to be able to take collisions reasonably well. Now it seems to be the case that they are back to being a cage of glass that flys. Why CCP, WHY??

Sure, occasionally I'll hover to pick up my team mates, but often times that leads me to get shot by an enemy railgun tank since I'm higher off of the ground, and often times blue berries aren't smart enough to think to jump a few feet and then get in, so landing often usually gets more passengers in my ship.

I've been taking environmental damage in my tank recently. It's not just the dropship that has changed.
But I do agree that dropships die way too easily to even slight collisions. I remember having 2 shield hardeners on, and colliding ever so slightly with a dropship, and mine dropped down to 0/0 in an instant.
I may be missing something, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't call for a tank nerf before Uprising 1.7. - Atiim

Lol I've been ramming dropship a since dropships where introduced. But I do agree, the damage mechanic are off. My guess is when they were tring to fix the Vs weapon damage the broke the environment detection.
If I tap the environment it hits harder than any swarms. Even the underside.
But please stop QQing cuase someone tries to run you over. Your in a Flying Vehicle, and should be weaker to high speed collisions. And with AV so F'd it's your only threat.
So fly hard you kamakazi sons of b1tches. And CCP just one more broken item for the patch list.

I'm not complaining, I just find it very odd that a Caldari ADS can't even brush up against something while in flight without instantaly dropping to 0/0 and crashing and a Gallente ADS can crash into multiple things and still survive. |

My God. I noticed this whole increase in dropships attempting to ram my Incubus (even other Pythons for Christ's Sake). I can't really complain because the odds of them ever even touching me are minimal, but when they do, I rage for days. I look at it as a spam of WP for me since I'll just pull out a small railgun (since most of the rammers use shield derpships) and shoot them down without any hassle.
Off topic: I actually got ragemail yesterday from some Python pilot who claimed I rammed him. I don't purposely ram people in my .5m ISK ADS. ***** be crazy. Anyway, just pull out a small rail ADS and gun these people down. It made the air more fun to be in.

I specc'd into a level 4 Cal ADS, got the missiles up to proto, all my engine gear up to 4...and have quit flying. It was literally the most enjoyable thing I could do, but it's so damned hard because of the cheap tactics.
I get that they should be fragile, but the problem really is that it isn't FUN.
People who learn to fly an ADS, especially fly one well, are there for a certain kind of experience. Surviving or losing to a forge gun, or a rail gun, is part of the deal. We dodge and weave...and then Derpship Mcduh drops down like a caveman hitting a black belt.
Flying with proper instrumentation? OK. Proximity alarms? OK. Proper visualizing (ie rendering) of the target? OK.
Some knucklehead getting lucky enough to ram you because you can't do anything to keep your intel on him current and are trying to contribute to the team?
Sigh. So, I pound the dust like the rest of the clones and wait. Sometimes I fly anyway, but not with the joy and abandon that I crave. I want dogfights in the air, and dodging incoming fire from the ground.
Hi! Gosh, I've missed you...with every bullet, plasma shot, rail gun, and missile.

Not a fan of the whole kamikaze thing. Bad precedent for game play. Why skill in to a counter weapon or vehicle if all one needs to do is run a low or no cost vehicle in to something. In addition it creates balancing issues that were not accounted for as far as we know when vehicles are designed.(armor > shield). |

For me Dropship piloting is the best thing about dust....
Yeah swarmies are much tougher since the update,,, forge guns are deadly and rail guns still keep my pants continually crap filled.... Perhaps infantry vs DS's needs a slight buff still,, but i think the balance is pretty neat right now
The only thing currently,, that makes me hate things and wanna hang up my dropship boots... is the collision damage... I can even cope with the Rob Van Damme knocking me out the sky when some blueberries call in their LAV's,,, but for an insta-kill when another dropship 'touches' me,,,, it's so frickin harsh!! Especially as they get away pretty unscathed....
There's this whole tactic of a cheapy gallente ship that hovers above the map,,, and drops uplinks on the high points above the cities. Any other dropship that goes to deal with the uplinks just gets crashed into..... come on you *****,,, lets fight for real rather than this!! I must confess it's made me resort to the E3 build tactics of landing my dropship on their heads while they drop the uplinks,,, love painiting my dropship hull with the squiched remains of cheeky f-tards!
I'm not even saying it shouldn't damage,,, for sure it should..... And maybe if those flying Gallente tanks have enough speed then they should get an insta-kill.... but a gentle tap shouldn't send me burning to the ground
Oh,,, and anyone else notice it locks you in the ship once its destroyed now??? No more pilot bailing booo |

Other day I was in my python shooting and a viper. He flew next to me but didn't hit me , we were hovering right next to each other then we BARELY touched and my ship and his went straight to 0/0 in a second. |

So, I was messing around with ADS tonight and during one match something happened that pissed me off. I called in the incubus at the MCC on a skirmish match. I saw the landing marker next to me and waited for the RDV. Without seeing the RDV I hear "Deployment Successful." Confused I looked up at the MCC and saw the RDV flying away from on-top the MCC. My ADS rolling to off the side was accompanied by the loudest yelled swear word of all time (for me anyway). It plummeted to the ground nose first and exploded taking out a pair of random blueberries that had spawned in late.
Another match sometime later; I hear another "Deployment Successful" but this time being no where near the MCC I wasn't too worried. Waiting, waiting. Then with dreadful fright I look up and my ADS is plummeting to the ground, the RDV stuck in one of its frozen moments high above the ground. I said "hell no, I'm not letting this happen again" and I walked underneath, timed it just right and the moment before I was crushed underneath the fiery explosion of its landing I melee the dropship. A nearby Squad mate was laughing his ass off and after a while managed to ask me "what was I expecting to happen?" The answer was "Pretty much what did happen. I tried to do something, cursed Scotty for it, and then died before doing a damn thing."
Sincerely,
Your Multi-purpose Everything User

Put REs on your fit every time you call in a DS and put them down on the drop zone, this way here you can blow them up just before the DS/ADS hits the ground to negate the fall damage if it happens again.
Dropships need a buff. This way they can stop derping everywhere . ;_;

Just because ADS ramming ADS was mentioned and im guilty of it I thought i'd explain why I'll do it, simple because I've run into ADS pilots who will sneak up behind me fire a few shots and as soon as i turn to fight them they bolt back to the redline or start flying around like we are in some kinda childish game of catch, I am fed up with pilots that won't dogfight so I will ****ing ram you if you do this.

I understand your frustration, but when that happens you have to learn to just switch the afterburner on and give chase. A lot of pilots i know can hit targets fleeing from them with ease, just have to lead the shot a little above wherever their forward momentum is going. And also remember to skill up those passive skills, having lvl 5 turret fire-rate, reload rate, and ammo capacity are big advantages in dogfights.

I haven't seen the gunner issue yet, although i can imagine it might be a little funny to see a blueberry just screwing around with the turret and then oopsie, killed himself. But yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only pilot who has realized this.
