Dude, you know you're wearing a friggin heavy suit inside of your tank anyway. If there's nobody else around, get out of your dang tank and hack a null cannon instead of driving around acting clueless.

Pretty much this. I'm a dickhead and will steal tanks left alone and drive them off a cliff. |

Three tanks circling a null cannon with nobody else around. At least one could get out and hack it. If they're so scared they're going to lose a tank, then recall it, hack the null cannon and redeploy the tank.

I realize that every person has the right to play their own style, but seriously, it's sad when my take on tankers assigned to my own team is that they are all lousy cowards, just like redline snipers and cloaked shottys.

and lose the tank to the enemy? hah, no. I don't tank and I never will, but I will never ask a tank driver to get out and hack. Tanks are precious, and (unfortunately) tend to be the deciding factor in a battle.
Besides, we're the mercs running around on foot. It should be our job to hack, and take advantage of a tank when it clears the way for us.

Never said they are all lousy cowards. I will just blow up their tanks because I have a personal vendetta against all tanks. If they are dumb enough to leave the tank they don't deserve them. If CCP doesn't like it they can implement vehicle locks. |

You have to admit, though, it sure does spice up the game instead of the same boring tank routine.

I play all roles in the game, some more frequently than others. I just hate to see when people specialize to the point that they lose the ability to handle the spontaneous dynamics of battle.
Just had to get this off my chest. Thanks for listening. I feel better now.

I will never get out of my tank to hack a point... I do expect that my 1-2 passengers (if my tank is set up for them) will though. Sadly I have had cases where my passengers refused to get out and hack a point despite me sitting on it for about 20 seconds. |

I do it. I shed tears when people avoid all risks. Of course, I have so much ISK that it matters not if I lose a vehicle. Sometimes I spend the match landing on enemy tanks with a dropship just for giggles. I think there are so many unexplored social interactions in this game.
Good luck and Salam.

Nah if a tanker is doing that they are either locking down the point itself to prevent enemy counter attacks (aka farming as most people would see it), or waiting on a member of their team, preferable infantry who wont be risking a vehicle asset to come and hack and providing covering fire.
Basically how I run my HAV.
We roll up, infantry hops out, we clear the point and I cover while one of them hacks. Then we drive off.
What you are asking makes as much sense as a Dropshipper coming in to land and hacking the point.

Anyone who gets out of a tank to hack is plain stupid. My favorite tactic is to let him leave. If he takes a CRU let him have it. Kill the tanker before he gets back in Boobytrap the tank with RE's Wait for him to come back to get the tank
My only problem is that In a lot of maps I see no point in anyone calling in a tank at all.
e.g. Domination - (Lag) Research Facility. Apart form maybe making it difficult to get back into the city if the team pushes them out there is little they can do. The city itself is very hazardous for vehicles; with overhead forges (when they work ) and quick placement of RE's and proxies.
But generally any building socket is not really the place for tanks. Most of the time they're easily avoided altogether. All they can do really is restrict movement (which with a good ground team is tactically very powerful - but that needs to be established first)
