Destiny is focussed on "Shoot and Loot" PvE with the option of PvP for the masochists. Dust doesn't have PvE, just masochists.

I assume that there will be a larger movement over to a game like Destiny. Unlike the other games and migrations the previous posters have mentioned, Destiny is for the PS4 and the PS3. It also shares similarities to the type of game we are "Enjoying" here. Whenever something new comes out people wil move on and try those knew things. The question is if they will return.
Dust 514 has a high return value in the grand scheme of things. However, in its current state more people who break away from the time investment of this game and start investing time into another like destiny the more likely we are not going to see them again. This game is all about time and money investment. It is the same reason why people who still WoW don't like to move on to new games.
I plan to see what Destiny is all about. Will it pull me away from this game..I am not sure...Only time will tell.

I'm going to play Destiny, but probably only the main "campaign" I'm not really interested in the small scale tacked on Halo like PvP it will likely have.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

I will be playing both. How much of that time is on Dust 514 is squarely on CCP. Either magically fix the biggest problems with PVP or start cranking out PVE.

It looks like it's going to be rather amazing! By that time, I should be able to afford a PS4. I can't say I will be migrating. It's very hard for me to find a game I actually enjoy playing constantly. But Dust is certainly growing old, with hardly a change to the pace. It was cool at first, but it's really wearing thin.
Dust is here for now, but there will be more "dust" games along the way. Not to mention the new civilization coming out later this year. More like the old Alpha Centauri Civ of old, and looks AMAZING. Pretty excited about that one.

well i'll definitely play destiny, but will i come back to dust? most definitely since i put in a lot of time and effort, and there's also the tears of my enemies and my corp mates that i've grown accustomed to 
but the situation is like every other when new games come out, i'll buy it, play it for a while or till i finish the story and then come back to dust and wait for the next game to come out that interests me

I'm going to be playing it on PS4.
If it is as good as it is cracked up to be and DUST seems to be languishing, I might stop playing DUST for long periods while my SP builds up.
Then I might come back occasionally for some laughs until I get bored.
Or I might play both.
A lot depends on my corp-mates.

not really expecting any corps here to be top corps on Destiny anyway

its probably going to be rated M if it is by the creators of Halo. even though i was kinda shocked that Halo got an M rating in its release.

I'm super excited for Destiny and will be playing much of it but I'll definitely still play Dust. Bungie is putting as much into the PvP as they are into the PvE and it should be a great game on both fronts.
Dust and Destiny will be different games. Destiny will have a HUGE exploration element with a PvE element relate-able to Borderlands and Dark Souls except with much more individual customization and non-randomized gear though still a huge variety. Fireteams(squads) consist of 3 and I expect PvP to be a much more intimate affair, such as 6 vs. 6 or the like. Dust is more about a future warzone with armies battling, where Destiny is more like a high tech survival/Fallout situation. In Destiny every class can use every weapon, in Dust the specialization makes it unique.
I plan on continuing to play Dust as long as CCP keeps trying, I like it very much, though when Destiny drops, I may be awol for a bit.

Amen I've played and finished multiple games while still playing some Dust. Those have ranged from the most recent super Mario game to Infamous: second son.

Not speaking on behalf of Movado... weird seeing him here tbh lol... but I like how when someone states the truth, it's considered "butthurt". What corp in this game will move to another game? Why?
People that still on DUST are people that are comfortable at the "skill level" of this game, or the lack of. I've heard some DUST people try BF4, didn't like it. Went to look at their stats, 1 KD, .50 KD...
Once the game is too hard for them, then the game isn't for them. BF4 is garbage. I play it because there's no better game out sadly, and even though that game is in a bad state, I'll still play it because I don't have a 100kd like people do in DUST. It's a challenging game.
Mavado is 100% right. People that talk DUST into the ground... called it garbage and all that good stuff... still playing the game LOL. As I mentioned in another post, corps in this game forget what it's like being competitive. This game is a carebare's wet dream.
If you have fun playing it, cool, by all means, but at least call a spade a spade. You like the game because it's easy. Certainly not for the ground breaking gameplay... or the fabulous graphics... or the "MMO" experience... seriously now 
I've watched gameplay of DUST recently, Nod's videos, and the only thing I missed about DUST is stomping on noobs.

I've heard some DUST people try BF4, didn't like it. Went to look at their stats, 1 KD, .50 KD... Once the game is too hard for them, then the game isn't for them. BF4 is garbage. I play it because there's no better game out sadly, and even though that game is in a bad state, I'll still play it because I don't have a 100kd like people do in DUST. It's a challenging game. Mavado is 100% right. People that talk DUST into the ground... called it garbage and all that good stuff... still playing the game LOL. As I mentioned in another post, corps in this game forget what it's like being competitive. This game is a carebare's wet dream. If you have fun playing it, cool, by all means, but at least call a spade a spade. You like the game because it's easy. Certainly not for the ground breaking gameplay... or the fabulous graphics... or the "MMO" experience... seriously now I've watched gameplay of DUST recently, Nod's videos, and the only thing I missed about DUST is stomping on noobs.
This. This all the way. Lol I didn't agree at first but it's the truth. I haven't even played other games but yeah. Look at the competitive areas, they can give a good insight. Everyone's grouped up and hold the only land we got. Now forget all that and consider the the strategic realm. Most FCs don't use strategy. Just pass around tactics to their subordinates. Now that I realize it, I hope CCP throws the damn book at us for PC. I'm talking making it real hardcore. All of these pansies in one game. No wonder why there's so much QQing.

yes that, and, as somebody said above, they will basically be two seperate FPS games. Destiny will lean more to a borderlands-type FPS MMORPG.

Honestly speaking, there hasn't been much in the way of FPS that came out that's been worth anything. BF4 is a let down, CoD is...CoD, so Destiny is really the most anticipated FPS on the PS4 atm, and Bungie is a hell of a developer.

It all depends on how fast Dust can actually start being a good fps with solid mechanics and no lag. The fact it took a year to get the rest of the heavy suits is just sad. Atm I am loving FF14 on the ps4, soon watchdogs is coming out and after that Destiny will drop. Destiny plus ff14 will consume most of my time and can easily be enjoyable until Division drops. So CCP really needs to do something serious and big for me to stick around. Waiting 1 year for small updates will not keep a lot of people especially with the big games coming out at the end of the year.
What I think CCP needs to do is get this game onto the ps4 and make sure it works with no stupid bugs, make sure there is pve and advertise it. Atm there are not a ton of games out for the system and if they already had Dust on the system we would be seeing more than 2-3k people online. |

I will definitely give destiny a try. It looks awesome + I wont get a PS4 till it is way cheaper in 2 years or so. But that says nothing about if I will be playing dust too or not. If we have a PvE component coming until then, I will stick to dust at least for a few matches a week.

Yep. Thats one of the reasons I gave for trying it out. So atm I am pretty stuck to dust, because its the only game of its kind on PS3 (as far as I know). So when I read Destiny comes to PS3 I thought: "Yeah, I so am gonna try that ****!"

This is not true. The PlayStation system is only capable of running a single game at a time; no parallelism. Also, if you tried to play the games on two separate systems simultaneously, then it would be impossible to accurately use two dual shock controllers at once, or two KB/M at once unless you had 4 hands and the ability to point your eyes at two separate screens.
So you really can't do it.

I think the fun part is, that it is not entirely ironic. My guess is, that some (if not many) players actually play dust so much that it is impossible for them to play any other game. The very idea of playing another game instead of dust at any given moment is alien to them.

I never said anything about expecting mechs and jets 12 months after fanfest. Jets were shown WAY before fanfest last year lol. Don't think they even showed jets at fanfest.
When I spent money on DUST, was way back in the beta when DUST showed huge potential and was fun. I didn't spend a dime since Uprising. So yea.

Just have fun watching this graph. There was obviously a huge movement of players away from the game. To where is debatable. The fact is, players are leaving. Currently it looks like a slow, slow, slow, slow trend upward, but time will tell.

The game went from being 9000 people online to 2000-3000 avg. and I think that's not going to change much. New players come and go, while the "core players" stick around pub stomping them. No game will kill DUST, but there's no denying that as games get released people's attentions will split meaning less people on DUST for a while. But people eventually go back to DUST for their "fix".

When the price of a game drops by 84% in less than 1 year, we call it a flop in the gaming industry. I'm not sure about the show, it might have been good, but the game was a flop.
Dust is a flop too...
The point still stands though. No new game will suddenly kill Dust, because if it can survive GTA, it will survive any game.

I assume CCP, with its seemingly long-term strategies, wont be very sensitive to the standard definition of a flop.
Often something is viewed as a flop, just because it doesnt meet the highest success standards. That doesnt mean however it doesnt make profit at all, or that the developer of the product is going bankrupt or that it is even neccessary to cancel the product... It just may mean that it doesnt make as much profits as it may have made in a best case scenario.
If a company isnt driven by short termist venture capital craze, it may be sustainable without being the top player, or even coming near that at all. Its just not playing the winner-take-all game alongside all the others, and go its own way according to its philosophy. I think thats pretty awesome.

If you are considering Destiny, please don't use the info found in this thread. Half of the responses are completely uninformed and/or totally made up. I encourage you to go elsewhere to get informed.
Destiny will be an online only, shared world shooter with a persistent 10 year online support plan. They will have daily, weekly, monthly, scheduled, and unscheduled events. As I said in my previous post in this thread, I'm very excited for Destiny but intend to continue playing Dust as they are very different games.
Regardless anyone can play for free and decide for themselves. Simply go to Gamestop put $5 on a preorder and get your beta code. Put that beta code into Bungie.net. At this point, even if you cancel you preorder and get your $5 back or applied to another sale, you are enrolled in the beta through Bungie.net. If you go through Amazon, they don't charge your card until the game ships and will send your beta code via email within two weeks. If you play the beta and don't like the game, simply cancel your preorder before launch.
