People kerp saying that but i think that these "free to play" games make more money in the long run than paying $60 just once like most games. I am sure most people that play this game have spent for than $60. There is a lot of people that hav spent a lot more than that like myself . If we were to take an average per player I am sure is more than $60 per player. What I am trying to say is isnt that enought to develop a decent game? I honestly do not know that is why i am asking. How are other developers able to create a decent game charging just $60 per copy? I guess the only reason is Dust does not have enough players. |

Honestly its hard to tell, the EVE players will always say it is but they dont count the whales that free to play games get, Im talking the guys who spend thousands on micro transactions who pop up across all genres and platforms

*some* EVE players will say that. I play EVE, and I've spent something like $150 on this game so far. If you include the inactive people in Subdreddit, based on what I've heard on corp comms over the last couple years, I'd say at least half of our members have spent money on this game. Some of them have spent a ton. Most of them have bought more than one merc pack. |

Shhh, it's a secret. The EVE players don't know we're probably funding them.

I've spent more in the past 10 months playing this game than the price of a year's worth of EVE subscription, so, take that as you will.

No, CCP gets their money for dust 514 from robbing banks in their spare time.
The new commandos should have a better paint job. Look at the Amarr one!
1.8 is fun. Cant wait for the new build!

I've met players who've dropped hundreds of dollars on this game, most of them have already left.

Isn't buying an elite pack almost a years subscription anyways? I've probably spent close to $200 dollars on this game in the past year. I was a believer but am now doubting the end result.

It would be. free-to-play games can make money. But it requires a decently large audience. Which this doesn't really have.
It would make a small amount of money. Whales can spend a lot of money, but you need more than 4000 people doing it to make a significant contribution. |

There's probably around 60,000 active Dust players, based on PCU numbers.
Lets say 10% of those spend money on the game, and those that do spend $10 per month on average. That's $60K per month, or $720K per year.
At an average of $50K per developer per year that would support 14 devs.
Plug your own best guess at the various parameters in that and come up with your own figures, but personally I can't see how Dust is covering its costs.
That said, the shortfall is probably covered by just a few thousand Eve subscriptions; maybe 10% of the total.

CCP started with a board game called "The Danger Game" and that helped fund EVE online. Then EVE collected money for the next few years to help start Dust 514, Valkyrie, and World of Darkness. These projects were then used to help fund CCP's other project called "Valhalla" which is a giant space station they have been working on for years, to laugh at us when Ragnarok comes, but still be able to host all the servers for the games so were not completely left out. |

I should start a thread complaining about how CCP is spending too much of their money on EVE instead of further developing The Danger Game. |

So Far I have spent more than 160$ on the game, based on the fact that I believe in its long term goals. I would have bought more if Omega packs where the price they were introduced. In any cases my feelings toward the monetization at the moment is that it doesn't have the value it used to have because of the blueprints.
As of now there is no difference between DNS having gazzillions of money to run in super duper expensive gear than having a bunch of players able to fit level 1 role suit without proficiency. Never quite figured why there is level 1 aurum gear, it takes so little SP to get them. I did purchase a lot of proto aurum suit at 75% rebate. Now I have lots of proto suit left over since the respect, mainly like 350 proto assault amar to name just that. Buying the proto gear is still appealing I guess, but most of the older player got that the money PC generates i where value is. It takes for instance 3 pub match to buy an assault dropship, those things are interesting to buy with aurum for sure, but I am wise enough to not fly them too much because of the cost. Its sad there is no tiered assault dropship like there is for tanks, normal dropships do not respond like assault hence they require more skill to use and is a bummer to loose while practicing... |

Destiny will have three games and DLC options instead of a subscription.

F2P/micro-transaction/in-game store games actually make a lot of money from their dedicated fans who usually pay way more than standard box prices. I've put probably $100 into Dust, about $300 into Guild Wars 2, probably $300+ on Planetside 2 and similar numbers into a smattering of other games.
The flip side is there are a lot of freeloaders and when the fans stop paying revenues can sink dramatically.
Guild Wars 2 pulled in $32mil from a combo of box sales and micro-transactions in 2013 (a year after launch) so can be a fair bit in the right circumstances. |

Or is Dust supporting Eve?
I would say dust 514 has a very willing-to-pay fanbase. they've not released any numbers, but sony did say that ftp games were making 50% more money on the network than a year ago.
