I kind of agree with the cloak being OP.
Nearly every match I'm in that's pretty much all that kills me no matter what suit I'm using: Proto scouts with proto cloaks and proto shotguns.
Now usually I don't post much and I post even less about OP stuff, but I think cloaks are just a
little too common.that is of course partly because of the lacklustre state of assaults - of course the reason many 'scouts' played specially fitted min-logis/assaults pre 1.8 was the lacklustre state of scouts... I have a cloaked logi that I like to use as a slightly hardened scout/medic combo and he is fun to use, but I'm not going and destroying everything in my path because I don't feel that a cloak should be used like that (which is why I put it on the logi in the first place).
It's not like anything huge needs to change but the main thing is to make the shimmer more noticeable on a lower resolution. I find the shimmer very difficult to see playing on low texture and graphical detail, especially when the framerate drops as it often does.
can't argue against that - though whether CCP can manage it is another issues...Another change I would make is to make it so the shimmer is incremental: moving slowly and carefully should be rewarded, whereas moving quickly should bring you to 50% visibility at least.
I agree in principle - crouch walking should be similar to standing still and sprinting should provide more shimmer. I personally Only have issues against certain backgrounds/lighting (I'm ok with this, it's just like attacking from the direction on the blinding sun - using terrain to your advantage etc.) when spotting scouts, but I'm not unsympathetic to those who genuinely find it difficult to keep track of cloaked targets - this one is tricky to get right however due to the overall relative nature of perception. That's all, no QQ, just a bit tired of seeing so many cloaks be used to put scouts into the dominant power position.
I honestly believe it's the not all due to the direct power of cloaks themselves - it is still partly due to unappealing assaults as well as the 'new and shiny' elements of cloaks. Also - cloaks encourage a type of gameplay that many previous non-scouts probably didn't know was possible - And probably still don't realise is possible without cloaks.
My hatemail helps prove people always hated getting shot in the back by an enemy they had no idea was there. Despite the cloak QQ it is quite ironic that my only hatemail in 1.8 is from another scout - the rest are GGs etc.
