Just got out of an ambush only to face an entire team running scout suits. Is it because of the bonus to precision and dampening you get? Is is because you always wanted to be one? Or is it more of the "FOTM because of cloaks and they are the new thing to use because of strafing?"
NO QQ here, No BS.
I feel that people are running scouts because you can easily tank them (in that case you nerf yourself) or the fact that everyone can be seen easier.
I do not know. This is why I am asking the question and want your input.

No problem with Scouts. No problem with Cloaks. The only problem I see is Scouts running "brick tanked". Now if you want to address that issue without nerfing all suits that run Armor Plates or the eWAR Scouts please feel free. I have yet to see a good idea.
However, i'm partial to just leaving it be right now. Game is pretty balanced currently. |

Ran a scout suit back in 1.2 Decided it would be kind of fun to pick them up again mainly because of the skill bonus and slot overhauls, not cloaks. Was glad I did, but I also feel cloaks need to be adjusted somewhat.

Armor mods should be percentage based instead of a base value.
Same for shields.
Exempt from stacking penalties though.

Scout since late Chrome, so what Kaisar said in that regards... mostly...
But yes, I think a large part of it is the FoTM thing. Scouts being given so many buffs allows them to now function as light assault suits, and even part time logis due to the equipment slot buff. The cloak is a fun piece of equipment as well and allows complete domination of players who aren't experienced in dealing with scouts. Plus of course, the other buffs to the E-Ware department really help. A lot of players switched over because of all these buffs, even the ones that avoided the scout suit before since it was considered UP (At least the Minmatar scout) by most of the community.
Speed, versatility, E-Ware, cloak... There's really not much of a reason not to go into the scout suits right now, thus why you're seeing so many of them. The numbers have dropped a bit though, as the first day or so of 1.8, almost every single player was in a scout suit. Now, most games, you may see two or three per side... or rather, you may not see two or three per side, depending on how good they are.
This is one of those FoTM's you should definitely get used to though, because the cloak is fun as hell, and until something more entertaining comes out (CCP, jetpacks, please?) they're going to continue to see use on the battlefield in relatively high numbers (At least compared to pre-1.8 levels)
If you want to take advantage of all the noob scouts though, the commandos make for wonderful anti-scout suits (Assuming you have good situational awareness. Minmatar commandos are especially dangerous with that MD.

I do not know. This is why I am asking the question and want your input. I've always loved flanking as my primary method of killing. Pre-1.8, this role was best served, for me, by the Min Logi- super fast hacking, plenty of equipment, only slightly slower than scouts. Then they took away my hack speed bonus and replaced it with the most boring bonus in the game, gave scouts a real role bonus, buffed their slots, and gave my dropsuit SP back. At that point it was an obvious choice for me. Scout now and forevermore!

I assume a bit of the proliferation of scouts is because of that "new car smell." All nice and shiny and new.
Others may run scouts because assaults are generally lackluster (or just completely awful, in some cases), and logis were hit with a double nerf.
And never mind Scotty. Sometimes you get a match with 10 scouts on both teams, and other times you get a match with 4 scouts total. Same goes for heavies and such. Random chance can do a lot to make reality seem like something it isn't.

Add a profile increase for stacking plates/shields. The main problem I see with this is that these suits can't really be detected when cloaked (mostly the Gal scout) otherwise, they're just light assaults and logis can get similar health results while still using a cloak. Adding a small penalty to the scan profile would easily change this and wouldn't really hurt the scouts who run as regular scouts, or anyone else for that matter.

NEW Scout is a fad.
True scouts will still run them and do well, but new scouts are skilling into other suits because people are getting used to spotting them. |

I have run logi until the 1.8 changeup. I have always wanted to play fast and hidden, but there was no real way to do it until now.
I don't think the cloak is OP; I think there are a lot of frustrated players who aren't playing patiently. And, yes, cloakers get that first hit often, but I have been outplayed quite often by a savvy person.
In short: It's fast, exciting, and I get to be a ninja.

I've been running Gallente scout for the past year and a half. No reason to switch now.... Been nothing but ninja since day one.... playing it low and slow with maximum sneak. It's great fun and I hope we get some good new scouts because of the new found popularity. And at the same time, I hope the FOTM chasers move along and stop tainting my suit of choice....
The hard times were hard, but rewarding... but he good times are here again for sure. I wish there was a bit more balance to the scout suits when compared to the assaults but to be honest I see WAY more heavies on the field than scouts.
I'm glad CCP released all the racial variants, now i can finally think about speccing into another suit.
Well, another scout suit, that is....

I'm totally a FOTM scout and why wouldn't I be, I can run a suit that cloaks, has 2 equipment slots, has a decent amount of HP and speed, and by default is nearly unscannable.
I've still got my amarr logi if the galscout gets nerfed into the ground and with the proliferation of the cloaking assault scout, its almost inevitable

I chose scout because it was the smart option. The utility of it beats the other suits hands down. Why would I spend points in Cal Assualt when I can run faster, fit more crap, see everyone before they see me and of course be invisible. I chased that FOTM, caught it, now I make sweet sweet love to it.

I still think its funny so many people seem to think that skilling into the cloaking scout is some kinda character failing, I say that failing to skill into something so fun and clearly powerful is a sign of stupidity, and if you've got a decent amount of SP its hardly going to be the only tool available to you.
Its why you don't see respecs in eve every time something is changed or nerfed, most players have a heap of SP invested in a number of different ship types and races, once one thing becomes useless or subpar, they change the fitout or sell the ship.

Never liked the shotgun. Now its just a cheap shot.
I'll stick to my knives. Nobody complains about them (unless their fairly new and don't know how immensely frustrating and tricky they can be to use)
Also its rarely 'fun' to play a min scout. Tense and exciting sometimes. Rage inducing others. But hardly ever fun. Plus I lament my inability to carry anything decent on my adv fit. I miss my RE's <3
