So you've barely been playing the game and you want to tell people to STFU about getting this game properly balanced?
I'm going to kindly suggest you f*ck off. I don't know what sort of clout or merit you think your opinion has on this topic, but i'll tell you, if you ain't been playing it's zero.
I'm highly disappointed in the forum community that no one has told you off before now. I would suggest you either get back to playing Dust before running your mouth about issues which you currently know nothing of, or find another game you don't play to comment on.

No. It sounds like idealism from someone unaware of how this works. The people balancing weapons do not code for Planetary Interaction colonies, or design new maps. They balance. They design weapons, they deal in stats.
You can't simply decide to put them on a different task that they're not suited for.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

I don't love you or hate you, I just don't give a f**k what you say.
Obviously we all care about this game because we are here talking about it and playing it. As long as the game sits in its current state I don't think things will ever get better, there won't be any new players (none that will actually stick around) and the old players will continue to pop in and out to check out the new patches. The game has been and will continue to be in a state of flux until something drastic changes. New players will come, they'll play until they are sick of being curb-stomped by the veteran players or until they are sick of all the bugs and glitches. Veteran players will come back when a new patch comes out and then leave again shortly thereafter when they realise that the latest patch is as much of a turd as the last patch. The game will never grow beyond its current player base because it is simply not good enough attract and keep new players while keeping vets playing as well. |

Changes will always be viewed as nerfs and buffs. If you say you want the game to be balanced, but no more nerfing/buffing, then you are a fool because they are the same thing. I'm glad to hear you have been keeping up with the game and goofing around with the fitting tool or what ever, thats not playing. You play here and there? Thats all fine and good, but it in no way justifies your title to this thread. I could care less how long you have "been around", just as I could care less when people claim "closed beta vet". Good for you. And your 18 million sp means nothing. It does you no better than my 20+ mil does me.
I would love to have all the stuff you want in the game. But if they don't make the game at least somewhat playable NOW, there won't be anyone around to enjoy all that stuff. And do you think Eve people are going to want a mess of a game that completely changes every few months to have any larger of an impact on Tranquility than it does now? If the basics can't be nailed down after this long, thats a problem. And you don't say f*ck it, lets just worry about balance later.
Next time you create a thread with such an inflamitory title, I suggest you don't immediately bring up the fact you barely play.

Oh, that part of forum culture always has and always will be trash. It's modern human behaviour to whine about things on the forums. There are some genuine points to be made, though. As I referred to earlier - the Callogi and TAR were clearly superior options to anything else on the table. That's when you deploy nerfbats.
But the idea of 'new content' being driven by the devs doing balancing is misguided. Designers responsible for balance don't code new game modes - it's not their job, it's not what they do. Attempting to repurpose of them simply wouldn't work. You're not going to see a pretty new map from Wolfman or Remnant. Balancing doesn't hinder new content like it seems you think it does.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

I have a better idea. Lets fix all the bugs in 1.8. Honestly there's so many that I don't think anyone can really say what is or is not OP right now.
Take cloaks, the only problem with them I can see (I am a logi, not a scout, btw) is they don't drop fast enough, so you can shoot while cloaked. Laughably, CCP originally thought that was a great idea, obviously it was not, so it was "intended" to be removed, but not quite. If that got fixed I think you'd see a lot less complaining.

The majority of EVE "New Content" in the game right now came with the expansion "Apocrypha", and other expansions (Being Incursion and Inferno, but I very well could be wrong). The last three expansions, Retribution, Odyssey, and Rubicon, have been mostly balance, bug fix, and tweak expansions (Yes they have brought in new content, but nothing near like they did in Apocrypha). What is going on in EVE right now is that CCP was busy releasing new things, that they never fixed any of it, which they are now fixing. Dust has had a different pattern where they introduce things, then buff/nerf/buff/nerf, and the things introduced are mostly things like guns, suits, and maps. I would love to see an expansion OF the game scope, and balance everything [HOPEFULLY] once and for all. |

Also, if you were okay with TAR Callogis, I'm not quite sure what to say. I'd rather have half a dozen new maps honestly, or attacking Planetary Interaction colonies in EVE. Doesn't that sound fun? I'd rather have a balanced and major bug free game. New stuff brings back old players for a short while after a patch until they get too annoyed by how unbalanced and buggy the game is but a balanced and major bug free game will keep them playing in between patches. Though with that said we need all the racial suits (commander and pilot suits), vehicles (Amarr and Minmatar DS's, Lav's & tanks, Mavs, L & H Aircraft, and weapons (AV, Heavy weapons, and turrets) to achieve that. Basically we need the base game and it needs to be balanced and major bug free before we worry about new stuff. The problem is... it's not new In fact, it was there before much of anything in Dust was here. Planetary interaction, the ability to colonize planets for resources, was supposed to go hand in hand with Dust. However, the Tyrannis expansion was a long time ago. I would love to finally have "A Future Vision" be "A almost here Vision". I suppose you're right about what you want not being new; however it's not a part of the base game (and the base of this game is in FPS) therefor, it can fcking wait.

In a few weeks I will be making a return to this game, and I wanna see more out of it. ~Shmoof *EDIT* Yes I know Pyrex is normally full of... never-mind. But I believe he has a point. I want to be effect EVE, burn colonies, shoot dreadnaughts on Infrastructure Hubs in Null Sec from an orbital cannon. That is the content we are missing. Also Pyrex is my only real way to keep up with Dust at the moment...
Principus is OP. CCP pls nerf
(I generally agree--I haven't ever pursued FotM, I just go for whats' fun and useful to me at the time. CCP can focus on making the game, and when they do well, people will follow. Loud whiners are never the majority, you can just look at numbers and see what people are doing!)
Hi! Gosh, I've missed you...with every bullet, plasma shot, rail gun, and missile.

Thats really the crux of what Pyrex was saying. For a good long while now each patch has felt like it was a balance patch, with a slow trickle of new content. What we need is a reversal of that. Open the floodgates on new content and slow balancing to a trickle.
And by content (really broad term) its more than just dropsuits and weapons. Its game modes, work on the EVE-DUST link, transforming the lobby shooter we have into the sandbox mmo residing in New Eden we were hoping for.

I think I'm probably in the minority with this opinion, but as a mostly console FPS player who has never played Eve -- what about it?
Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to crap on the idea that further Dust/Eve integration is desirable, or that bridging two entirely different games is a great idea and should be pursued (it is, definitely) -- but I'm an FPS player, and when I first came across dust, I was looking for another FPS to play, and space-based one with cool gear and vehicles sounded right up my alley. I of course knew about the Eve side, but I didn't come to this game thinking anything other than, "Wow, this is a pretty cool idea, and a challenging game. I think I'll give it a go".
Personally, I find the idea that the way to fix Dust is to focus on Eve-side integration is terribly misguided, and a concept that should be utterly discarded. Dust is a shooter, and in that respect falls short on some basic game mechanics that shooters need to be considered successful. Dust needs to focus on being a better shooter before it focuses on any of that other (admittedly awesome) stuff. Mercs aren't quitting or false-starting this game because Eve-side stuff is not supported better; they are leaving because they are tired of balance issues and hit detection and my fraking assault forge gun not fraking firing when it's fraking supposed to.
I don't play Eve, and to a large extent, don't really care about it. I'll admit that I've become more interested in Eve politics and the meta game since I've been playing, but as something fun to talk about in squad -- it's the Dust merc version of watercooler talk. When I'm playing, I care about pwning mercs in quantity, and in the most colorful way as my abilities allow me to. That's about it.
Eve-side integration is a fine long-term goal, but should never, ever take away resources from making the best shooter possible.

one problem is misinformed noobs making reviews of dust, the old BS misconception- "ITS PAY 2 WIN"... after they play 3-4 matches... then CCP seems to want to adjust the game for these BS reviews.. "INVISIBLE INFANTRY IS OWNING ME!!" says some guy with a standard definition TV from 1995.. CCP knee jerks to these bogus reviews and we that play the game are left to suffer. "I CANT SOLO A QUE SYNC'ED CORP!!!" the list goes on...

You are not in the minority from what I can see. Most players want this game to function correctly in the most basic ways before anything else is done on Dust-Eve integration thing. I agree with everything you said and I think it is the view of the majority of the serious players in the community. Nobody wants to play a FPS game that doesn't work well as a FPS game! |
