Gearing Up for Conquest - The MCC:https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=154338 Gearing Up for Conquest - Transport Vehicles: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=154106&find=unread
So I'll post the links in a Minute but so far we have been discussing some of the logistics of the 'conquest' matches. These huge matches take place on massive 5 x 5 km maps with hundreds of players at a time.
We have already discussed larger MCCs with multiple staging areas, new logistical transport vehicles including huge globemasters carrying a whole skirmishes worth of players at a time.
So next is Artillery, artillery is a large part of warfare, NLOS weapon systems allow for long range support often to multiple theatres of war, so how do you think they should be done?
I believe Artillery Turrets should only be equipable by Enforcer Variant Tanks . Make Enforcers lighter tank but drastically improved speed, allows them to move to a new location and set up with ease, while the lower EHP means they won't work well in Combat Engagemens.
Artillery turrets provide a ballastics HUD that outlines the projectiles path and have a range of 1500-1800m. Artillery turrets however require time to 'set up' wether the barrel unfolds (minmatar?) or expands (caldari?) it requires a small delay to move between moving or shooting. This makes assaults on lone artillery valid and improves logistical play, (tank escort)

Remember the concept of destroyer HAVs as well- they were intended to have better (steeper) tracking for being able to take down dropships.

Artillery (and their smaller, faster firing cousin, the autocannon) are the domain of Minmatar weaponry in New Eden. They possess long range, though not typically as long as a railgun, but do more damage with a much, much slower rate of fire and tracking speed.
You will likely see these attached to Minmatar tanks in the future in the same way that Caldari have rails and missiles. |

If you were looking for a special artillery "function" and not simply an aesthetic, you have warbarge strikes already. This would be redundant and put too much stress on the playerbase due to uncontrollable deaths. |

They'd still have travel times (especially important for the drones), and they'd be very, very vulnerable to other tanks or dropships at close range. |

Sounds pretty cool, I had more conventional lobbed projectiles in mind, kinda like a giant plasma cannon for the gallante. Photon Bombs for the Amarr and Gauss(esque) cannons for caldari, with the minmatar having some HROF variant of conventional artillery.

Except that you would never be able to do anything about them once you're tank capped, and in a serious match one team always is. |

Artillery weapon's aren't exactly great at killing scouts strapping RE's to them, or the commando's pegging them with missiles / plasma cannons at short range. |

Why? You are on massive 5x5km maps and your going to have artillery with 250m range? Artillery is completely different, its non line of sight it offers completly different advantages to a rail gun.

Flayer Mines? Please enlighten me, would they stay dormant or would they effectively be projectiles that have wider AOE but limited height?

You are NOT on 5x5km maps.
The day the redline disappears you can make that claim, not before. Had you ever ventured out on a glitch run outside of the redline you would know just how buggy and broken the geometry actually is, and how full of hot air CCP's claims are.

These are bouncing betty mines that explode whipping nano filament wires around in a terrible series of arcs....essentially flaying the skin from anyone hit by them...and reducing them to lumps of meat.

Thats because currently we don't have the matches we are discussing the logistics for, if you had actually been arsed to read the damn title or even the first paragraph you would see we are discussing stuff that probably isn't going to exsist for a long while.
Now get the **** out my damn thread!

BUT, fuckin right on man. Conquest mode would be EPIC.

Interseting Although it sounds a little OP if your firing a decent number of these DIRECTLY at enemy players!

Indirect fire, they're lobbed out and either hit the ground dormant making a proximity anti-infantry minefield, or they exploding into their whirling deathiness on the way down. |

In the same way Tyranid spores can be lobbed through those bio artillery creatures....mines that explode above the ground.

I would say the majority of the time they would do the latter, however the option to effectively create a minefield with artillery would be very interesting. Also it would make Amarr artillery unique in that its infantry focused/only .

Ok so we have that Gallante use Plasma Charges, akin to a plasma cannon Minmatar use Space Versions of conventional artillery. Caldari use vehicle centric cruise missiles And the Amarrians use Infantry centric flayer rounds.
Should each race only have 1 artillery turret each?
