It's quite possibly the worst nerf they could've made.
Rails are now INCAPABLE of doing their (supposed) role: long range bombardment.
Now they're shotguns that instagib tanks and LAV's/stupid ds pilots.albeit this bodes well for ADS pilots, this is terrible for the people who want that ADS Out of the city.
AV is (albeit better) still laughable. Rails instagib you still, but have to manage to become flight capable.

They were hardly used for long range after 1.7 the last i saw before this nerf were people going 1v1 with blasters with them and winning, so dont say its wrong when people arent using them for there "supposed role" anyway and its abouttime d'ships get a break.

I would have rather seen the maps broken up more by buildings/mountains. It would be a lot harder to do and way more resource intensive, but overall I think it would be a better solution. Maybe thats the goal for the future. I hope so, as an ADS pilot I would get way more entertainment from having to manuver through buildings and valleys to avoid railguns. You can kind of do it now, unfortunately almost every map takes place in a f*cking crater, with the redline being the high ground, so of course the railgun was exploited.
I'm not saying railguns were fine, and I personally would have no idea how to fix them, but it does feel kind of silly to watch a rail shot just poof right in front of me, fancy blue cloud and all.
Switzerland is small and neutral. We're more like Germany. Ambitious and misunderstood.

They were always shotguns, now they're shotguns with 300m range that encourage people to actually leave the redline rather than relying on non-viable redline only fits that'd be destroyed in seconds on the battlefield. The range nerf has improved the game for all vehicles significantly.

And while it's nice to have railguns be constantly 3m short of 2hitting me, it's terrible for rails(and consequently, pilots) when the only way t get that ADS out of your skies is by 1hRAING them Using your own DS.
Would you prefer a railgun hitting you at half it's current ROF, but at say, 450m instead, or a 65k ISK derpie crashing your 600+k isk Python/Incubus whenever you make somebody upset?

As someone who uses tanks, I must say i enjoy this nerf. Before with the 600m range, many games it would just be tanks up in the redline peeking mountaintops to slug eachother. In some maps where the terrain is more bowl shaped, you could have 1 tank up in the redline preventing anyone from using any kind of vehicle.
With this 300M range, im still killing dropships. I just blasted one out of the sky 10 minutes ago. The only difference is i have to get in closer, which gives the pilot a "better chance". |

Lore always dictates that your defenses are able to calculate and project Electronic warfare and counter measure capable of countering incoming shots at those ranges. Which is why engagement range max in eve is only 250kms, anything beyond that is going to be a guaranteed miss.

To be fair, 300 meters is still pretty damn good. I wish my missile tank had that kind of range. If rail tankers are really that unhappy about not being able to insta blap from the redline then there is only one other option. Increase range and make it charge before every shot. The ROF on the rail is incredible.
So which is it? Red line sniping range? Or machine gun ROF? |

I was really sad to see all my different types of small missiles go in 1.7. I was going to use 3 xt cycled missile launchers and name my dropship 'Hellfire' I really enjoyed those cycleds, 3 missile burst but each missile did less than others in the proto teir. If you could hit with all of them you could do incredible damage, but you had to hit with all of them! Miss one shot and your doing less per clip than the others......tericide is not good for dust......
@ kota, the reason they nerfed the rail range was because tankers were sitting 200-300m in the redline and killing everything in view which was a good 90% of the map. I'm sorry you can't sit safe in your castl...I mean red line but everyone else has to risk something to make money, sorry princess. In fact princess, I have some of the largest testies in the land, I would fly into your redline and kill your precious tank and make it out with a second left. Talk about balls to the wall!
Anyway, the nerf was intended to get rail tanks out of the red line and onto the battlefield. I'd say its worked pretty well.

I would like it if they increased the range to 400m; that's enough to be a counter to Incubi (I mean seriously, it's harder to forge one of those than a tank!), and possibly buffed Python's durability somewhat, preferably through a couple more base EHP.
600m is excessive and always was. Although people are still abusing the Manus Peak redline.

With 600m rails there was literally no reason to fly an ADS. You would be two shot from the sky within a min, especially since there were so many red line rail scrubs.
While rail tanks don't have total dominance of maps now there are still plenty of things that can kill an ads.

Just like with tanks, a single AVer will normally not kill a good ADS pilot, but if two AVers work together that ADS pilot is out 500k.

Honestly they should've nerfed DPS through the RoF rather than make caldari rails have worse anti air than missiles. While I'm not a huge fan of the nerf, please explain to me how you plan on utilizing a 600m range without redline abuse. Get rid of the redline or make it so you can't shoot from the redline.
