He should've joined Dust University, but hey we don't really know if CCP can save this game at fanfest anyways so he may come back when the game has a decent tutorial or may never need to if Dust flops.

This unfortunately is all too common an experience for new players. Even if they join a corp like DUST University or the like, the minute they leave the academy matches they are canon fodder for a month or two at least, if they can stick it out that long, being killed almost instantly they spawn, finishing a public or FW match 1/10 for months, is not fun!
The new player experience is to be honest abysmal. The game will slowly die (If it isn't already - Hope not, but ?), if new players start the game and get totally disheartened with it after leaving the academy, the retention rate of new players will drop.
As some Vets leave, either to take a break from the game or to play new games that have come out, there are still enough high SP players knocking around to make New players say WTF is this s**t! The problem is that the Vets that leave are not being replaced by new players fast enough as far as I can tell. |

In our corp we take rookies into fights all the time. Encourage them to participate on comms with a squad and they can taste a few wins. Provide some insight into skills WTF, and gear. Have vets drop tanks or dropships to let them try out.
Encourage rookies to participate and they will stick around.
Rookies who never link up with other players, never join a corp, and are never on comms, are food.

World of warcraft still is the best example of this.

How do I know that this is not an alt's attempt at propaganda ???
Yes we know that this game has problems but I look at this and I see a proto player in a militia suit .
That's just me and knowing some of the ways of some who play this game .
I wish that there was a way to be able to tell the difference between an alt and an actual new player .
Stop asking for tiercide , your killing variety and the fun of this game at the same dam time .

To be fair, whether he is the alt of a proto stomping vet or a genuine new player doesn't really matter, I don't think you can really argue his experience is uncharacteristic of a what a lot of new players will experience.
I still join skirmishes where a squad of 6 or even queue synced 12 corp members in proto spend 95% of the game kill farming everyone else. Its even worse if your on the team with them, since trying to find anything to do or a person to shoot at is even more frustrating than spawning into sudden death.
If Dust is going to do well it will need new players, currently the new player experience is very rough to brutal, and as the established players SPs and ISK resources increase it'll only get worse.
There really should be some kind of simple system to give newer players a break, i.e. set up skirmish contracts onto three tiers of difficulty
1) 'Highsec' contracts, pay 1/2 normal isk and 2/3 of normal skill points. 2) 'lowsec' contracts, pay full isk and full skill points 3) 'nullsec contracts' 50k isk buy in to fund transport to the system, 120% isk and 120% skill points (still capped as normal)
You could then stick a new player buff on fresh characters that gives them 120% of skill points in highsec contracts for the first 3 months of the characters life.
It'd also be great to give new characters weekly 'missions' for the first 3 months of play, give them 50 advanced level fitted suits that have no skill requirements and a SP reward for getting X kills with that suit for example. |

This is an alt trying to make a point. Notice that he hits the key issues that are on the forum in his first ever short post. Notice the corp he faces just happens to be a well known one that people accuse of PC dominance. He tries to make his reference look casual by only "remembering" some of the name. He also makes sure to hit a home run with the mention of calling a random friend to tell him not to try it (making the "lost customer" argument.)

I am sorry to see that you had a bad experience. Yes, DUST does have a rather poor tutorial. I believe it is 1,200 WP to get out of the Academy. This amount to kill 24 people, hacking 24 objectives like turrets, or grabbing 12 hacks on a null cannon. It is pretty damn easy to be able to just get out of the Academy having no idea how to play, fit things, move, or even what the different types of weapons are good at. It does need to change.
Though I am curious why you would post that you had a terrible experience and that you weren't coming back. Would be like walking into a restaurant and telling the other tables "I don't like this place, so I am not going to keep coming back." If you want to leave a note for the Developers of the game, I suggest either the Feedback forums or by sending in a ticket.

He's right to be angry. Academy last 1-3 matches depending on the skill of the player. It should last much longer, at least until the person makes 100k WP or something like that. They need to play many matches to learn the game. The learning curve is veer steep.

GÇ£Artists use lies to tell the truth."
It doesn't matter at all. DUST 514 shouldn't need DUST University members to explain the complicated menu/skill system, or how to be effective on the field. As much as I agree with dent about helping our newbros, the game should be approachable without subdreddit vets coaxing you along saying "it will get better. spec A, B, and C first. And drive my tank a little before you invest yourself."
The Academy lasts approx 2-4 matches. It should be much longer than that. Like, you officially get kicked out when you hit 2 million SP. Until then you can play in the kiddie corner. If you are the alt a grizzled vet who doesn't want to run ez mode that long, give them the option to permanently exit the academy early, no option to head back.

I think a lot of you are lost in the fact that he is an old player making a troll or fake post.
The fact is, yes this game has no NPE. Most of the NPE is made by the players. Which is not the way it should be. For any game like this to continue to thrive there needs to be new players continuously coming to the game. A cooking account is not an active part of the community. I myself have many accounts cooking considering they are free to make and I don't even need to have the game downloaded to make a character and let it start cooking.
Anyway, The game NEEDs an updated and complete NPE. PvE would be a great start. No one reads the walls of text tutorials. This of course leads to the root issue that the Dust 514 dev team have not been focused on this specific issue, but more with fixing and reworking the game over and over and over again......
For over a year now....
(No CCP, some random new suits and new weapons that are not very much different than the original is not a big improvement as far as game content. Oh and new maps are shinny, but just a distraction from the real issues.) |

This is one of the reason that a refund of total infantry would have been appropriate .
You already know that those who have SP's will reinvest in what they had or try something different . That way would have been good seeing as how most just sit on skill points anyway any what the hell , if they would have had more now .. at least I would have gotten something out of the deal and made myself more solid as a player .
I would have been able to actually skill into a role because now I have the tools to do so .
Now I'm just restocking what I already have and trying to find a use for what I don't need so I won't feel silly for skilling into items of another race but in order to compete that was needed .
Now it's just the same ole players doing what they do and the same one's that were climbing the hill , just had there climb made steeper .
Stop asking for tiercide , your killing variety and the fun of this game at the same dam time .

- how would you change it?
- was academy too short or was it just that matchmaking sucks and put you against stacked teams
- did you understand HOW to play after academy because that is it's job, it's not there to ease you into the water it exists to teach the mechanics, matchmaking eases you into the water... or not.
- did the "mission" style tutorial work for you and give you an understanding of the game inside and outside of matches?
- did you feel the tutorial was too spartan?
- which areas if any, need more detail?
- was the neocom adequately covered in the tutorial?
you can't just say this sucks and walk off in a huff, that is what children do. we know it sucks, ccp knows it sucks, and you saying it sucks doesn't add anything to the conversation. asking CCP to create a tutorial for their game is borderline psychotic, they know their game inside out and backwards to them all of this is so obvious that no one could possibly screw it up. so tell them how to fix it. Just a question How many first timers do you expect to type in al that when trying a new game? 99,99% of then try the (any) game, say it's not for me, moves on. Do honestly think a gamer are going to put down al work for a game they don't care a rats a+í about? Regardless i am a vet or not it's a very smart way to get a opinion across to get a discussion going. Regards
