Also, some players in this thread would then take around 70 hours of play a week to cap out, and would gripe.

It might be broken though. I distinctly remember a mach in the past few days where ~6 people on my team looked like they were afk (0 WP).

I came here all excited. I thought this thread was going to help fix afking and make it better. afking has been getting nerfed a lot since I can remember to the point where not many people want to do it anymore. Your recommendations will only make afking worse.
If anything, I think afking needs a buff. I was thinking a setting that will automatically queue you into a match and spawn your favorite suit at the corner of the MCC. That way, I dont have to come back and do it manually after every match. It really makes it difficult to play other games or do things around the house when I have to come back and check to see if im in a match or not.
One thing I've really been trying to get is adding a couch and a soda machine in the MCC. Nothing better than chatting with your fellow merc while listening to the sweet sounds of war outside the MCC window. CCP always talks about more interactions with the blue berries and this idea will greatly help in that sense.
Lets come up with ways that better AFKing and not make it worse.

Put a random timer on the MCC, if the timer times out make the merc input a random code. If the code isn't put in within 20 seconds or three times in a row then kick the merc and fine them 100k. It isn't difficult to solve, no algorithm needed. Just adding the timer will work, it doesn't need to be complicated, it just needs to be a random set of button pushes and that's it. If you fail the code twice it kicks you and fine you 100k. All we need is a prove you're human feature.

The best way to fix afking is for Devs to post a message on the clients bulletin board declaring it a breach of the rules and stating that players found doing it will receive temp bans, then randomly inspect games and start punishing people that do it, after a bunch of ppl get month long bans and whine to their friends about it, only the most daring will continue to do it blatantly.
A few hours on the oceanic server will result in numerous bans being handed out and the problem will start to fix its self.

AFKing is part of the game, you cant ban people for that. Just like Tank spammers, Jihad jeep drivers, shotgun glitch users, rail rifle users (first released), clone suiciders, etc never got banned. You can hate on each and every single one. To ban one means you can ban them all and that will not happen.
By the end of the week, everyone will get banned for something. Cant justify the merits for one and how banning does not apply for the rest. Come up with every reason why someone should not afk and those same reasons can be used for anything else that people "hate" in the game.
And plus, devs cannot directly interfere with New Eden. It would go against everything they have worked on since the beginning of EVE.

AFKing is here to stay.
The only way to fix it is to remove SP gained for time in battle and the only way to do that would be to rebuild the entire SP system from the ground up. It would be great to see AFKing gone and this stupid weekly cap removed or heavily revamped but we are in too deep with the current system.
This is what happens when instead of fixing a problem you come up with some two bit workaround. |

It also ensures that people try their best to contribute as much as possible for their playing time. But it'll be bad for new players: you don't want them to earn less SP by playing (granted, you'll have to be really bad for that, but still). |

Do not fix AFK farming. This is how I make my ISK while doing other, more fun, things. Surprisingly I make more ISK per hour while AFK then actually playing. It's such a horrible algorithm that determines the payout. Ambush takes 5 minutes and pays out as much as domination (~15min) and as much as skirmish (~25min). What kind of crap is that?!
Pay us better in pub matches and people will stop abusing legal game mechanics to make ISK.

Isk farm ambush gets you an avg of 75k a game go 20 - 3 in ambush gets you 150k when losing 150k for the 3 lost suits what's better.

I believe the current method is 1 Second = 5 SP and 1 WP = 1 SP. Say a match lasts 13 minutes. Currently that would be 3,900 + X = SP, X is WP. Say you were to flip the numbers to make WP more favorable and time not as favorable:
13 minute match = 780 + 5 X = SP. So getting 780 SP gives you the same amount of SP now and with the proposed change: 4,680. Get less WP, you get a less SP and get more WP, you get more SP with the change. How many people can routinely pull in 780 WP a matches? Those than can pull in 1,500+ in the same match are going to cap in 5 hours. People that can call in solo orbitals are going to get 13,280 for that match, capping in a little more than 3 hours. Pull in 400 WP a 13 minute match (no squad, you kill 8 people or hack some objectives) and you will cap in about 12 and a half hours.
The change also means that a one sided match is terrible for everyone. If one team gets pushed to the redline in the first 5 minutes, you can expect most people are not going to get the 780+ WP just because the enemy is hiding. For the enemy, what is the point in staying? You are not going to get triage points, hack objectives, or even be able to kill all that many people to "make this match worthwhile" so you might as well leave.

Back on subject, players will always find a way to AFK as long as AFKing can be as beneficial as actually playing. Therefore, CCP should fix that and create PVE missions for new players to gain starter SP and ISK.
