First of all I must confess that the tears are real, I must also agree with another critic, whose name escapes me, that no other book should be mandatory to read barring religious text of course.
For any who have not read the book, I must implore you to read the novel. It's a book of moral judgement, standard wisdom, expectations of the young, and of equality. The best thing about the book is that it does not simply attempt to beat these thoughts into you, no, this novel simply shows you the reality of the world and the undeniable truth of humanity: equality and respect for all. This is a basic understanding, any man can tell you that egalitarianism is virtuous, but how many men can show you why.
So, anytime someone aggravates you simply ask yourself (barring religion), "what would Atticus Finch do?"

I remember reading it in in 11th grade... I was skeptical at first, by after I started reading, I couldn't stop. One of the best books I've ever read, perhaps the best.
"what would Atticus Finch do?" These are words to live by, and I have asked myself them on more than one occasion.

I will add that to my list of crap to read on the crapper. I just finished reading The Da Vinci code.
My opinion of that book would probably be higher if i did not read angels and demons right before it. Dan brown is a brilliant author but he has a one track mind. Using the same twists in other books. For a thriller mystery... the mystery was taken out of it once I caught on to the authors mode of thinking. It wouldn't have been so predictable if I hadn't read his other books. He is still a good author though and writes exceptionally intellegent books.
The new book I am reading now is not really fiction but more of a biography of Leonardo da vincis artwork and life. IT is called Da Vinci code decoded but its just about all the professional life of leonardo. I am also reading Holy blood, Holy grail. Once I finish these too... I may just follow up on your suggestion, my brilliant alt.

I even told my teacher, "This book is boring and it makes it very hard to read". I had to read it eventually so I decided to finally do it since I was behind on my reading. Part I of the book was not interesting(at the time) but I persisted and by chapter XIII I was unable to put the book down, and did so only to eat, go to the bathroom and "unfortunately" sleep. Took the rest of the next day to finish it.
Very amazing and powerful book. It is the type of book one cannot appreciate until they have read all of it and reflected on it.

Never read it. When I was in High school, we had the choice to read "To Kill a Mocking Bird" or "Black boy."
I chose Black boy, because we were told that we would only have to read the first half. Unfortunately the first half was still longer.
Signatures? Since when?

Great book. Your thread reminds me of an article that stated people who read are likely to be more empathetic and tolerant of different people. |

How you read any of his other novels? The Lost Symbol and Inferno are both novels in the Robert Langdon series. He also has two stand alones in Deception Point and Digital Fortress. Both the stand alones are pretty solid novels. The only issue is, as you mentioned, he is a script writer. Each book has the same format as all the other. He changes the antagonist, the plot, and the location, but in the end it is all the same. I almost stopped reading Inferno because it felt like the same book. I do have to admit at about page 120 or so, it finally got interesting. |

PS: To Kill a Mockingbird" is an absolutely brilliant novel. Read that first.
And, for the love of all things holy, stay away from "Catcher in the Rye" That is the most mindless drivel I've ever endured. Salinger took away hours of my life when I read that crap for an Adolescent Lit class in college. |

I got all of his books in a set but I haven't read them all yet. I decided to take a little break from fiction and decided to read something more practical.... AutoDesk Maya 2014 essentials and a book on DreamWeaver. While it may not sound like it, Maya is a 3d modeling program and its actually pretty fun. Dream weaver is for web design. I always enjoy working on little projects as I call them and try to learn new skills.
