ah a fellow heavy.
but yeah it does suck when you have like 10+ people at the objective and 2 people bothered to drop uplinks, and sometimes its at a pretty bad spot as well

I run a positioning suit with 6 droplinks (uplinks would send you home, droplinks bring you down) and throw them in areas not subjective to lock down as easy; and try to spread them out so that there is always a decent positioning point for the team. Afterward, I generally swap to the main suit I am going to be playing and try to strategically place 2 or 3 in somewhere close to the objective, generally around the 100m range or so. Somewhere that "I" would want to spawn from. Anyone that doesn't like the placements can always spawn from the MCC, but there is an open portal there for about 35 people to get through if anyone cares to use em.

More ranting coming up:
1). Why was spawn time increased to 15 (!) seconds? It is painfully and unnecessarily long.
2). Why does the description for uplink give the "% bonus to spawn time" (e.g. 50%). Why not just give the spawn time in seconds? So we have to know what the spawn time of a particular uplink is and then do a quick bit of mental maths in the fitting screen to figure out that the 50% bonus makes it a 15 second spawn?
Ranting over.

Because uplinks were insanely OP and completely voided all CRUs and mCRUs. Plus if you had the Amarr logi bonus on top of the old bonuses...we'd have 0.5 sec respawns.
Uplinks tend to devolve all battles away from tactics and more into mere zerg rushes. They are disposable, have huge impact, and are quite difficult to find in comparison to CRUs or mCRUs.
Uplinks need slow spawn to make up for all their advantages. Amarr Logi makes up all these issues anyways, specialize ftw!

I marvel at the times that I drop links at ultra-sweet spots, check the map to find out that I'm the only one who has dropped links, and await the hefty payout. Only to have no one use them in favor of spawning into a hail of ammo at some objective. Immortality goes to some people's heads.

Every squad should have at least 1 and maybe 2 players who consider Uplink deployment to be a primary role.
I'm usually one of the ones who deploys Uplinks, and when they're running low, I set up new ones. |

The one thing I have noticed in 1.8 is that keep uplinks alive is a full time job. With the new scouts and so many of them your uplinks are seen as soon as they are dropped and destroyed a few seconds later. If they are going to have cloaked scouts they should have cloaked uplinks, good for a few spawns.
Because, that's why.

I'd like to extend this to nanohives too. Way too few ammo out there...
With the start of 1.8 I created a BPO scout fitting that consists of K-2 nanohives and R-9 uplinks as well as cardiac regulators and kincats for fast delivery. At the beginning of every match I deploy one pair in a position I may need later for AV purposes and one pair in a position where I expect the biggest fight to happen in case we lose out on the initial fight for the contested objective. As soon as the initial fight is over I switch out to whatever it was that I was looking to try during that match.
I think this should be standard procedure for almost everyone. |

IMO they made the timers too long resulting in slower games. It also makes it harder for the loosing team to push effectively. I would like to see the timers adjusted so we can have the intense battles we had before. Seems like they wanted to reduce the spam by nerfing them. But all I see are blue berries further from the battle now.
They would rather do laps around the objectives. Track and Field 514.

Uplinks should be indestructible until they have been used 1/4 of their potential. And this comes from a guy looking in every dark corner for uplinks to kill. They should also be retrievable and reusable as long as they have value. But now I'm just wishing at the clouds.

Blame CCP for nerfing them! No one wants to use links now. If you play dom, I LITTER the objective with links. They get shot out quick now. I am now running over 20+ links per match (nerf) was only using 5 links before. The biggest threat to links is ADS. Take em all out!

Links are dispossible. It would be cool if we could hack them. Not sure its worth the risk of getting shot up by a heavy.

OMG, this is hilarious!
For months we've had bitter complaints of "Equipment Spam", folks upset about how the enemy didn't have to hike in from bumfuck Iowa, and thus coud defend thier objective. They didn't like working against the tactical advantage. They wanted it to be all about "gun game".
So now that they got what they demanded they are all upset. Now that they have to spawn hundreds of meters from the fight and hike in they suddenly appreciate uplinks. Not only appreciate, but get on the forums to demand.
You got what you cried for, enjoy!
