Specifically, there are three cases:
- Border Gulch: Bravo, Charlie, and Echo are always the Gallente security scan and Delta is always the Gallente reactor cores.
- Fractured Road: Alpha is always the Gallente reactor cores, Bravo is always the Gallente landing pads, Charlie is always the Gallente relay station, and Delta is always the Gallente satellite launch pad. Further more, sockets housing the various CRU's are always the same.
- Manus Peak: Bravo and Charlie only pull from the Caldari set of sockets, they never pull from the Gallente set.
What is up with this? I asked CCP LogicLoop back when he still worked here, and said that the first two were because that is how the designers wanted it. So is this a performance issue or something? Hopefully it's something you can work on, would sure be nice to see other sockets on these maps. Additionally, in regards to Manus Peak he told me that the Gallente sockets do rotate in, however in the SEVEN MONTHS since the Gallente sockets were added I have never once seen them appear on Manus Peak and am willing to bet no other player has either.
Just something to perhaps relay to whoever is in charge of map design. I surely can't be alone in really wanting this.

I'd like to see more sockets for each of the races in the future. That way you can still have a Gallente themed map and the sockets are able to rotate without repeating each other or simply swapping themselves.
Scheneighnay McBob wrote:You forgot line harvest- charlie and delta are always the weird trapezoids. I've always counted Line Harvest to be a socket-less map-specific design. Aside from the ground spawns of course.

Scheneighnay McBob wrote:You forgot line harvest- charlie and delta are always the weird trapezoids. Line Harvest doesn't actually have any sockets, besides in the redline. Yes those trapezoid buildings are part of a medium socket, but they are built statically into Line Harvest. They'd have to completely rebuild the map if they want to rotate those with other sockets.

They can rotate all they want I am still playing the same four maps over and over again. The terrain dictates the map not a few random buildings.
CCP you better nail 1.8, as it stands 1.7 is a total disaster.

All sockets should change. They never used too on the old bridge map but after bringing it up they fixed that.

Let's take a simple example like Manus Peak. If Charlie is that socket with the tall structure with a square catwalk up top and Bravo is the Consolidation Matrix, that completely changes how I'm going to approach it compared to if Charlie was the underground acid pit socket and Bravo was the socket with the really tall building.
Also moving forward it is key to note that terrain can be apart of the interchangeable sockets, not just buildings.

Map design is especially stagnant. The Caldari Production Facility was originally slated for 1.5, then 1.7, now it's out of the discussion all together. More sockets. More objectives. More terrain formations.
We need post-beta content urgently. More modes, maps, and stuff to do on them. The summer is approaching and Dust has no plan to retain the bulk of the playerbase through that time. And when they come back for autumn, Destiny and PS4s for Xmas will devour the Sci-Fi console FPS crowd. Bungie knows how to keep players interested so don't plan to see any of us until Dust is on PS4 and up to snuff, if ever again.

Some maps were introduced before they created the socket mechanism. I'd imagine that re-implementing ("socketising"?) those is a lower priority than a lot of other stuff they want to do.

The fact that you don't know what the plan is doesn't mean there isn't one.

I think the screenshot with the extra large socket highway had a caldari production facility concept that looked pretty cool.

Except all of the maps I listed are post-socket mechanism and two of them are the newest maps in Dust.

Lately I have come across maps / sockets combos that I did not recognize, but they are extremely rare. When they DO occur, I have to completely rethink my strategy for the map, which shows CCP's socket concept can work... if fully implemented.
No question, we need more maps and socket sets. |
