A proto swarm launcher with prof 5 and 2 complex mods on a proto minmatar commando suit which adds extra 10% damage does less damage than an advance swarm back in 1.6 before all the nerfs to swarms, dmg mods and prof. |

Not to mention decreasing lock on range by more than 55% and increasing lock on time. In addition tanks get shield and armor hardeners. Did i forget something?
This is CCP's way to balance things? Add a bunch of weight on one side of the scale while removing a bunch of weight from the other side? That is why it takes forever to achieve balance! |

And it still hurts a tank more than the pre-nerf version would against 1.7 tanks and the initial release of 1.8 before the hardener nerf. |

You're right. Tanks have gotten a lot stronger and tougher since then. It's a really unfair comparison; AV is getting right screwed over! |

I neglected some of the things I should have skilled into to go level 5 prof 2 in swarms. My thought was that surely something so obviously and demonstrably broken would get fixed and I'd be ready for it.
That didn't work out so well.

Actually yes, a Proto Swarm launcher with Pro 5 and complex damage mods should be able to solo a tank. Unlike every other weapon in the game, if you decide to use a swarm launcher you are specifically dedicating yourself to being anti-vehicle infantry. If you, as a dedicated Anti-Vehicle foot soldier can't take out the specific target you built that entire suit around, then what good are you? Swarm Launchers are the only weapon in the entire game that can not combat infantry, you are giving up that very important option in an attempt to be the *best* at fighting off things that can wipe infantry out by the dozens without even trying. For Swarms to be so laughable useless in the one and only thing they are capable of is ridiculous and leaves them as a waste of SP.
That said, at the moment, literally ALL AV weapons are completely broken and useless. Swarms are nerfed to high hell with low damage, long lock speeds, no range and slow projectiles. Forge Guns are bugged to hell and back with their phantom firing issues, which will seem to the player like a round was fired off but in reality nothing happened and they're just sitting ducks with a bright glowing "Shoot Me" sign in their hands. And plasma Cannons never worked from the start, short range, slow projectiles, long reloads, difficult to aim and not even that much damage. But at least with Forge and Plasma cannons, a player still manages to maintain SOME ability to defend themselves against Infantry. With Swarms, you're literally defenseless as soon as you pull them out.
At this point in time, AV infantry is pretty much useless, and it shows every time there's a match where 4 tanks and 2 dropships completely decimate the otherside. |
