Fanfest 2014
Fanfest is less than a month away and obviously many of us that were here since closed beta are kinda pissed that we just now are getting the rest of the racial variants suits. Although the new suits.... and the blasted cloaking which has infested this game has made the game fun for awhile it doesn't change how little progress has been made with uprising and the hype around last years fanfest.
But anyways I was wondering, if anyone here is going to fanfest what are you going to be asking CCP? Maybe something like : At fanfest I will say this..
lol maybe but it's probably best not to start raging, but it's best to pretty much explain your anger and tell CCP each one of their mistakes their team in Shanghai did in one whole question when you guys get to ask them.

things like
"how satisfied are you guys with the progress you have made in the development of dust this far"
"what are you guys doing to bring the game closer to the vision presented at the games inception"
ya know things that sound thought out and somewhat intellegent, things that any good marketing team would jump on to answer.
lol I won't be going to fanfest, but if someone does this I will be laughing and sort of cheering them on. And ya it's probably best to ask questions like the ones you've put.

ya I get it, lol still will be funny to see someone lose cool while trying to ask those questions calmly. But whatever you guys have to show for dust at fanfest might just stop those questions from popping up...... I hope. Cuz after all this time it's really gonna take more than a few suits, and vehicles to restore faith in CCP. And you guys have something more than a few new toys to use right? right?! right?!!!! You see even I'm losing it, but anyways I just hope you guys have something for that MMO side like you guys said in EVE Vegas: more on the MMO less on the FPS.

I...... agree, first starting off with stations and maybe if CCP gets it figured it out boarding Titans may come along eventually. But in certain situations.

I was pretty hyped last year :( that was a terrible idea tbh capture the station i can get behind but capture the titan. well the eve player in me is frightened by it. a titan is a personal asset, a station is a corp/alliance asset. I agree the titan idea is terrible. I really don't think people have any clue just how ridiculously massive they are. It would take a team the size of CCP Shanghai decades to model the interior of just one titan, and there are 4 of them. It would take up terrabytes of disk space for the maps. You could have a 200 player battle and not find an enemy for days. The only realistic way to do this would be to make the map 0.01% of the size of the ship, and really, if you're going to do that, what the hell is the point? See my sig for a much better solution for fighting in space with EVE players.
I don't think it's terrible, it's just not possible with the ps3. Maybe small battles to sabatoge the Titan but eventually if this game comes to the ps4, there will be more players and bigger battles and the possibility to take over the Titan.

I guess it might just be cuz of the new EP, hopefully they don't throw all their money at trailers like last year.

I was so excited when I got the beta key towards the end of summer 2012. I was disappointed because I saw nothing that connected this game to EVE, I barely played but I started playing more around the chromosme build. I even made an EVE account for awhile. Over time that link has gotten better but barely, Uprising has mostly been a very disappointing build, while we were impressed from their preview at fanfest and it was interesting to play it for the first month. And even through all the updates more problems kept popping up, dust 514 has stayed as a lobby shooter for way too long. No one right now should call this an MMO-FPS.

The lower quality of modeling for the latest suits and the big QA fail in 1.8 really destroyed my confidence. Quality seems to be heading in the wrong direction. I'm holding out for FanFest for both EVE and DUST before I leave New Eden for good.
Ya 1.8 has sort made me wonder if they even thought about releasing the rest of the heavies this year. Not sure if they've been occupied with something else that's awesome or their development team is just that slow which wouldn't be a surprise. It's made me worried even more which isn't good since I've been worried about the games future for a very long already. The communication in CCP Shanghai doesn't seem to be very good, and neither does their programming.

I'm only looking for one thing at Fanfest 2014: Concrete evidence that changes are being made to the development process to establish the groundwork for faster, more logical changes to the game as a whole (rather than the see-saw motion of buffing/nerfing back and forth). Suffice to say, I'll be incredibly disappointed if I see presentations of a bunch of new content that will only exacerbate the problems we're already having with the content we do have by way of adding more work-load to tackle and potentially break. As I said on Twitter, Fanfest 2014 is going to be a make-or-break for many of us.
Same for me, CCP has to show us that the this terrible wait through Uprising was worth it. And that they didn't decide to throw away all their money for that statue they're making for EVE.

Lance 2ballzStrong wrote:People forgetting stuff like Paintbucket, Player market, Gun Customization, and the Vita app? lol these things CCP made it sound like they're right there and ready to be released. Again I say Fanfest is just another platform that CCP can sell people pipedreams on about DUST. Something as mundane in EVERY shooter... gun customization, adding different sights... 2 years DUST has none of that. Just SMH at the shortcomings of this game. Call me a hater, call me a bitter vet, IDGAF, I played this game for a long time, invested time and money into it, and CCP delivered next to nothing. Took 2 years to get all the heavy suits... like is that a joke? Not a single new heavy weapon, maybe another 2 years huh? I'll be watching Fanfest, and eagerly await to see of someone has the balls to ask the real questions. I doubt it though, but I can hope.
No one forgot about the player market or the gun Customization, things like the paintbucket, gun customization and the Vita app really aren't going to save the game in it's current state. I've played for nearly two years also, while I didn't buy anything for this game I did make an EVE account and had it for several months. That money for the EVE subscription went to CCP and CCP chose where to use that money and it seems like they chose to use the money from EVE,Dust and investors for all those trailers around last fanfest. Like I've said here in this thread already Fanfest is it for me, after that if it's disappointing (most likely) then this game will be remembered as a failed attempt and it never even got to the point where it could be called an MMO-FPS.
But that's if it fails, right now I have no idea what CCP has to show at fanfest. And neither do you (probably, unless you've been paying a dev to tell you what they have, or if you're somehow monitoring CCP's offices in Shanghai). Until Fanfest of 2014 is over we cannot really say if this game is a complete failure.

Back in the day we had small blaster turrets, which were pretty fun, then Skirmis 2.0 came and took it all away - that's why I fear everything with 2.0 in it now... Why were they taken out? Too much spam? I don't get why CCP doesn't just realize the "sandboxy" idea behind the game and allow for some spam--just make it COST. I mean, they had to go with an artificial limit of 2 tanks on spambush because of tank spam, yet that could easily have been solvable by dramatically increasing the price for tanks. And consider that if we did have installations we could call in (and pay for). Maybe the answer to a tank wouldn't just be another tank. Maybe it'd be a rail installation or even a small rail turret. There's options there for installations. If everyone remembers the promo trailer CCP played for Dust, everything had a cost. "Ambush OMS?" Nope. Just "Ambus" and we provide the OMS with our wallets. Maybe the connection with our wallet is what's truly missing.
I was also wondering if getting installations would sort of help with the tank spam, making installations and tanks expensive would help with the spamming of those two also.

This is why I look forward to potential boarding actions in Dust. I want to be able to board the ships of Eve pilots by means of boarding torpedo and fight my way to the bridge and assasinate the clone in it's pod. Asset for asset, clone for clone.
Exactly, when they bring out a ship for battle they risk losing it. Just like when we take out any drop suit for battle, expensive or not it's a risk.

There is no viable argument ainst us being able to board Eve ships and kill the clone piloting them. It doesn't really matter if a ship is lost to enemy fire or dust mercs boarding it. A ship lost is a ship lost regardless.
I'm pretty sure that a Velator costs more than our most expensive dropsuits. 500K is absolutely nothing in EVE. That's like 2 blocks of un-refined high sec ice, which can be mined in about 2 minutes. Now, as for boarding Titan's and killing the capsuleer from the inside I say YES PLEASE! Sure, but what's to stop ccp from releasing something in Dust that would cost as much as a Velator? My point here is: anytime you take something out to play, be it a ship in EVE or a dropsuit in DUST you admit the risk of losing it. This is New Eden after all. I argue this because you can bet that quite a few Eve-pilots would protest loudly against any ideas of boarding their precious ships and assassinating their clones. They suffer from some kind of delusion that they are "better" than Dust mercs and feel that their carebear ways should place them above risk.
Completely agree, especially on the part where they think they shouldn't be at risk with us dusties around. Just because I'm on a console and this is a fps they think that they are above us.

They are above you...... Miles and miles above you. :) Oh, I would love the tears if someone lost a titan because someone managed to jack the pod from the inside without a shot ever being fired on the outside. Just imagine: Black Ops ship jumps into system with Titan and cloaks. Approaches the Titan which just so happens to be outside POS Shields. Black Ops decloaks, launches a single probe and cloaks. Only, that probe isn't what it appears to be on scanner and quickly disappears. It disappeared from scan because it's attached itself to the hull and is currently cutting a hole for Mercs to enter through. The Titan quickly (ha, quickly) tries to get back inside shields but it's too late. 6 merc's have managed to get on board. Nanohives and Droplinks, and a new version of the MCRU all appear and suddenly, there's no longer 6 mercs, but 36 mercs on board. The titan pilot realises what is happening and calls go out on all comms for help. At this point, the titan's friendly mercs start popping on board (after suiciding from the fight they were involved in, leaving that district open for the taking) and a new fight emerges on board. One can dream.
Lol not sure about surprises like that with the capsuleer not being able to get dust players to defend the inside of the titan. But if they are near the POS and there is a CRU in the titan then he or she can get dust players to transfer to the bodies in the CRU in the titan.

Leovarian L Lavitz wrote:An internal titan battle would be a multi-staged fight, starting with the entry point. Winning the entrance battle opens two new titan 'districts' for battle. The attacking force then picks one of the new opened districts and attacks, making their way deeper into the vessel.
Losing pushes the attackers further back to their staging point, and winning allows them deeper access to the titan. A titan should have around x districts from entry to victory. While battles are raging inside the titan, the titan remains in space, cannot perform emergency warp. It can warp, unless the warp-drive district has been captured by the attacking mercenaries. The pilot can eject. The pilot can jump, unless the jump-drive district has been captured or is contested by attacking mercenaries. The pilot can activate modules, unless that individual module's district has been captured or is being contested by enemy mercenaries.
A titan should have a district created for each module fitted, a district for its drone bay, a district for each of its hangars. The number of district battles is equal to the number of MCCs attacking the titan.
Our glorious MCC engages a titan, launching its phased cru at the titan. As long as the MCC is cycling its boarding party module, the battle can continue inside the titan. If the mcc is destroyed, the battle ends in a loss.
example: The First MCC engages, activating its boarding parties. Bzzzzooomp, the titan sees that boarding parties are active in his ship, he tells his people to primary the mcc, then, boom, mcc engaged. However, the mcc is telling his friends to give him reps, so he is maintaining his link to the Titan. Ewar engages, breaking the link to the mcc.
The battle still continues inside the titan, however, the invaders inside cannot spawn in after their death. Suddenly, the ewar has been destroyed, and the mcc regains his lock on the titan and reactivates his boarding party module. The invaders can spawn in again, hurrah!
More and more MCCs engage, up to 36, creating 36 battles inside of the titan, moving closer to the core. Suddenly, no longer able to control the ship, his guns have gone offline, his hi-slots, mid slots, and low slots are all offline, his various bays are locked and he can no longer warp or jump, his capacitor is no longer charging, the pilot finds himself having been forcibly ejected from his ship.
Interesting....... maybe there could be sabotage missions for certain modules on Titans.

What they were showing in 2009 was gameplay on a different engine, it's called the Carbon Engine. And when CCP figured out that the ps3 could hardly run the carbon engine they started over with the Unreal Engine which is what we play on right now. So it's going to take along to for CCP to make as much progress on the Unreal Engine as the amount of progress that was done on the carbon engine .

^ I also want to add that, dust has not evolved in ANY WAY towards a MMO during 2013, which is the games main differentiator compared to other FPS. Its only buffs and nerfs.
Exactly the problem all through Uprising, what's suppose to be it's biggest strength/ what's suppose to make it stand out (MMO-FPS+Sandbox+its link to EVE online) is its biggest weakness.

Yup I'm not interested that much in the new suits and weapons, it's still ambush, skirmish and domination over and over again with a few new toys. Sort of seems like 1.8 was rushed cuz of some of the texture on the new heavies. At least it seems like they are trying, but it won't matter at all if they don't have anything close to THIS!! before Destinys release and before everyone reaches their limit with Dust 514.

Too much nerfing and buffing for a whole year, while there will always need to be some adjusting to new weapons, suits, and vehicles it really shouldn't take this long to do such things. But how many programmers and how long does it take to change the stats on one weapon, dropsuit or vehicle? I don't know how big their dev team for Dust is but cmon are their programmers really that bad? I've been told or heard plenty of times in squads I've been in that CCP's programmers are so ******* terrible.

They don't have a large team of developers, and the longer they spend catering to those people who whine and cry about "THIS IS OP THIS IS UP NERF THIS BUFF THAT WAH WAH WAH", the less time they have to add more vehicles, weapons, maps, suits, or, the big one, more EVE link. If the cycle of of buffing and nerfing continues, the game will take longer to balance. Nerfing/Buffing cycles are not balancing, balancing is what we want to have, but when you go to these here forums saying "Tanks are super OP, nerf them", and they get nerfed into near worthlessness, have you balanced the game? Or was your goal of making tanks soloable by a militia swarm accomplished because you can't be bothered to play as a team (This is purely an example and "you" does not refer to the person I'm quoting). Honestly, just keep things as they are, and if something needs to be balancing, let it be balanced, and let's start demanding for new things, not nerf/buffs.
Ya right now I like the way the gameplay is right now , with fanfest close I'd like to get some new things to do other than amb, skirm, and domination over and over again.

LEHON Xeon wrote:I have to agree with the running feeling in here. Having been here for nearly a year now, and having read and watched videos of earlier Dust versions before I arrived, I wonder myself where Dust is heading.
There's two main things keeping me here yet. The first is all of the guys in my corp group, as they make playing matches fun. The second is all of the money I've sunk into this game. I've already put hundreds of dollars into Dust (probably way over 1m AUR by now) and if I don't start to see more active development ideas that don't take 3/4 a year to put out, I'm going to stop buying stuff.
I seriously hope CCP revitalizes Dust, because as far as I'm concerned, 1.7 (and the majority of Uprising) was a huge disaster and just adding a bunch of extra suits isn't going to fix that. We need more interfacing with EVE to make us actually relevant to the EVE universe. There should be an implementation of where our fights on the ground actually change things EVE-side. I've always been for something like from Star Wars Battlefront 2 where you could fight in space in ships or installations on foot, and also on the ground on planets. Something like that combined with the player market could be a huge boost for Dust.
+1 completely agree, while Uprising was impressive at last fanfest and for the first few days of having it.....there's been nothing to do but play the same modes we've been stuck with for too damn long. There is no " This is New Eden " feeling, there is MMO or Sandbox part in this FPS. CCP needs something like the Dust Keynote in 2009, where they first showed Dust players requesting an orbital strike and the EVE ship firing down onto the planets surface. It was sort of "evolutionary ", it's really gonna have to be that great at this point.

And to continue on that last comment + explaining what I meant towards the end of that comment. More on that link between EVE and Dust needs to be seen in between both games. A simple example: contracts that EVE players can offer us and contracts that Dust players can offer to EVE players. Other ideas have already been discussed and/or could be thought of easily. I've got enough Dropsuits and everyone knows that new vehicles shouldn't be primary on CCP Shanghais list of "things long overdue for Dust 514"

Setting up in Shanghai kind of makes me ask a few questions, why set up in Shanghai for Dust 514? Is it cheaper to get office space in Shanghai than it is in Iceland? Are you able to pay some people you hire from Shanghai or any other economic free zone in China so much less than you can pay people from any where else in the world? Not saying that you don't have people that aren't from China though( I don't know though so I can't be sure at all ) How much attention does CCP give the development of Dust 514? I ask that last question because Shanghai is really damn far away from Reykjavik. Kind of looks like they put that development team in the corner of the world lolz.

I want nothing more than for this game to thrive, but I've felt for far too long that this game is nothing more than a side project to CCP, and I as a paying customer have felt anywhere from disappointed to straight up insulted more times than I care to admit. I've watched countless amazingly well thought out and calculated posts / discussions just disappear into the void with little more than a 'ooh that's interesting' from a blue, to the point where I have lost all desire to provide constructive feedback anymore. For the sake of the love I had for this game, I do not actively bash it or talk down to it, but I have stopped making content, I've stopped talking about it, I've stopped promoting and generally playing it. Right now, it's just not worth the frustration. It feels completely divorced from EVE an entirely devoid of direction, and until I feel like CCP is taking the game seriously, I will not waste any more time and energy on it. The ball is in CCP's court, now we can only wait.
Ah so that's why I haven't seen you upload any new vids for Dust, right now talking about the possibilities is the only thing that keep some people interested. But that's a problem, there are better things to say about its possible future than its current state.

Confirming that fanfest is going to be the "make it or break it" point for me thats becuz alot of us came to this game because we heard of the concept and the promise that CCP is "different" from other devs and they communicate and listen to their community and all that jibberish in the 2 years i was actively playing DUST has not progressed its gone sideways and slightly backwards not forward Skirmish 1.0 was alot better than the "improved" skirmish 2.0 and skirmish 1.0 would of made sense in PC , ccp goin backwards. Gladiator arenas with EVE side betting on matches to be 1st expansion for DUST? who remembers this pipedream? for the person who said gun customization not important id disagree, it adds depth and variety to the game DUST guns were suppose to have mod slots as well that was talked about another pipedream instead u have 3 diff guns to buy from the marketplace which are just sight, fire rate variations which a gun customization feature would of solved and done a much better job of PvE? lol ppl have every right to be as bitter as they are, **** im surprised so many still cling and tolerate their bs so much. The Shanghai team is just awful at making a FPS and being stuck on PS3 doesnt help
Completely correct, the game hasn't evolved and has remained a lobby shooter with a very poor link to EVE online.

I pretty much shut my wallet to SHanghai after Uprising dropped. It was just too much BS for all the hype they built up.
I just reactivated some of my Eve accounts, and I very quickly realized that playing Dust as it is now is just a huge pain in my ass.
I log on for PCs, and I AFK my fatty alt until they fix the skill bug.
More than likely I will biomass my toons after fanfest if the announcement is bad. Which I fully expect.
I might jump the gun though if the alleged hotfix to the skills bug doesn't show up.
Same for me but don't waste your time waiting nine hours to bio-mass your character lol just delete dust from your ps3 and trade it in to cover some of the cost of the ps4. I'm hoping for something great at fanfest, not vehicles or new guns but new things to do, more of that game evolving/ better link to EVE/ creating items, Player Market, PVE.

I dont care how much faster its developed, if they had used their resources for dust rather than for another project they could have made dust even better, and with the development on the console generations even greater. The pc is an entirely different target group of players. My Corp and my alliance are made of mostly Console players. I kissed my PC good bye just because of the privacy invasion, hacking, exploitation, cheats, driver problems/ceasing support. I was glad that dust was released on a console. Now all this will come back to Legion. People who can cope and afford time and money into PC gaming might enjoy the transition of dust. But then there are much more entertaining alternatives on the PC FPS and MMO market. I would even consider spekking into a new PC hardware, if i wasnt directing a corp and alliance of players being part of a community that have been shitted upon ruthlessly.
That really sucks, I suppose those mainly in Dust that are able and willing to get a PC for Legion are gonna leave that alliance. But really CCP should've started off with a PC Version anyways, not sure if a PS4 version of Legion is gonna be an option for CCP.
