1.7 was released with two day one OP weapons, combat and rail rifles both dramatically changed the balance of the battlefield in Dust. They were OP, designed as OP and caused many to muster up the resources to use them as early as possible. The only methods to do that in Dust are SP and a combination of ISK/AUR/LP. AUR and LP allow one to access gear that you have neither the time nor the skills for.
1.8 nerfed them both (and many other items as well) while introducing two day one OP items. The strongest scout suits Dust has ever seen along with the cloak. Guess what it takes to gain early access to them? Hint, see the above paragraph. At least this time the SP was available for some, assuming they gave up on their original suits as they would be rendered useless or at least less effective once the invisi-scout took to the battlefield.
I have a record of ISK paid out from last year. The results are clear to one that has been playing since the very first of closed beta. The ISK rewards are dwindling, steadily, consistently, persistently and have been since ~1.6. It used to be that one could find a fit that let you earn some ISK by grinding with a fit that was cheap enough, let you kill enough (or earn WP your way) while not having you die a dozen or more times per match. You still can, but you had better finish in the top four.
Those combinations are now reduced. The day one OP gear requires a response. The easiest will be AUR. Gaining LP requires spending AUR or ISK to buy gear that will get destroyed seeking LP. Although it does balance the need for AUR by those without cash the reality of losing ISK means it is more expensive in relationship to time. However, many new items are not in the loyalty store.
Each new drop means that those with SP/AUR to burn can use the OP gear on the first day. They will maximize their return. And further CCP/Shanghai's commitment to their path. While Dust seems like F2P, and it was, now the reality of day one OP means that is being left behind. Whether that is on purpose or just a side effect of the standard operating procedures at CCP only time will tell.
@HVH, Sorry for the delay in my response, I had not checked in for a bit. KR
And so it goes.
