Wait wait wait... you're telling me you DON'T play on huge panels? I've been doing this wrong all this time? Aside from have to turn my head to see the edges of the screen properly the 47" was fine. I just figured I would need to adjust to the size of the 60" or maybe move my seat back further. |

I play on a 50" and recently started also playing on a 24"
The 50" I'm about 6-7 feet from and have no problems. I actually think it's easier to see suits moving at greater distances on this screen because of relative size.
The 24" I'm about 2 feet from because it's my computer monitor. General play on this is equal to my 50" for me. I do feel like I get killed by people at distance that I just don't see though.
Move back from your 61" so the whole screen is in your field of view, you'll be fine. You're supposed to be roughly 1.5 times the diagonal of your screen away anyways (Ex. 61 x 1.5 = 91.2" or 7.625 feet away) |

Some HDTVs have a fairly big(i.e. unplayable) input lag. Sometimes there's a 'Game Mode' setting that is meant to minimize this lag.
Check out http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/ to see what your TV's input lag is like. The list really shows you how big a difference there is between monitors and TVs.
When you add normal network lag to TV input lag to PS3 controller lag things can get rough fast.

There are tons of study's on professional gaming Monitors and screens.
Where to big is actually WORSE for how FPS games work.
When the screen get's to big it forces you to move your eyes from one side to the other to take in all the information... Sometimes spacing yourself away from the TV at a certain distance can get rid of this...
There is actually a calculation for Human eye field of view... So you can measure the distance you need to be away from the screen for your eyes to be able to take all the information in without having to move.
But this is a well known fact in competitive FPS gamers. To big of a screen will ruin your instant reflex ability and ability to take all the information in.
This is why you see alot of people play on 30-40' Computer monitors.. You generally get better performance for your buck and that is all the size of screen your eyes can take in without starting to have to move around.
I Believe the max limit is 42' For the Human eye not having to move... I tried to link you the information but it's in a passworded hardware forum.
Edit* People have got rid of the screen size caps.. By Building a concave screen setup http://origin.arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.media/panoply.jpg
Or the new monitors that they are starting to build..

I'm currently sitting around 8 feet from the TV and I have to turn my head and move my eyes and turn my head more than I'd like. I'll move everything back and sit 12' away to see how that works.
The TV does have a Game mode that I'll switch too, and I need to make sure the processing is off on the PS3s input.
Thanks for all the input guys. Hopefully I'll be able to kill all of you again later! =P |

You want virtually no input lag? CRTs are known to be the best screens for gaming. The best CRTs ever made was by Sony, what you want is the last line they ever made, their "Super Fine Pitch" Trinitrons. They do not make these anymore, but they are very very good. After calibration it's better than a Pioneer Kuro Plasma. See if you can find one used. My set for example is 34XBR910, my god the picture and sound is amazing, sets a bit heavy though. |

When a TV is huge like that you can see too much at once, and it screws with you because your peripheral vision is picking up more than it was used to in the game.
I could list the ways how we Amarr are better than you, but your lesser mind wouldn't comprehend it.

I've always noticed that bigger TVs make for a bad FPS experience.
Few things you can try is messing with your TV settings IE the ones you mentioned. These games aren't meant to run in 1080p either, so if you can dumb down your resolution that will help as well. Alternatively you can just use your old TV if you still have it for gaming only now, that's what I do. |

less or more lag if you run the controller in wired mode? Nowadays for first-party controllers there's no practical difference between wired/wireless. The biggest variables for input lag in DUST are framerate and CCP's coding.

They are heavy because SONY uses more parts than most because they make the best TVs. SONY LCDs usually weigh a noticeable amount more than almost every other brand. They use better quality parts and more of them. Lower tier SONYs have better ICs than the top of the line SONYs but the top tiers use more of them. They do that so their lower tiers have similar image quality to the top tiers but cost less. I was trained by SONY to fix their LCDs and they are top quality, you can tell by weight and price.
