Aside from have to turn my head to see the edges of the screen properly the 47" was fine. I just figured I would need to adjust to the size of the 60" or maybe move my seat back further.
Sit further back, being too close (having to move your head) is bad.

The best CRTs ever made was by Sony, what you want is the last line they ever made, their "Super Fine Pitch" Trinitrons. They do not make these anymore, but they are very very good. After calibration it's better than a Pioneer Kuro Plasma. See if you can find one used. My set for example is 34XBR910, my god the picture and sound is amazing, sets a bit heavy though. I sold TVs back when the Sony XBR CRTs were gaining popularity. Those things were gorgeous, but holy smokes were they heavy. I mean like... TV stand breaking heavy. Yep, bless the poor folks backs that had to carry these things.
They are heavy because SONY uses more parts than most because they make the best TVs. SONY LCDs usually weigh a noticeable amount more than almost every other brand. They use better quality parts and more of them. Lower tier SONYs have better ICs than the top of the line SONYs but the top tiers use more of them. They do that so their lower tiers have similar image quality to the top tiers but cost less. I was trained by SONY to fix their LCDs and they are top quality, you can tell by weight and price.
