As we all have seen, the Plasma cannon could be better, but has great potential. Without a Damage Over Time function being added to the game, many have tried to say, "buff the damage!" or "just make it, like, 20% better. What do i mean better? Just, like, you know, better!" I have avoided posting in the forums for quite some time now, as these eventually boil down to "Yeah, but make it like 9000% better" and "No, it's fine where it's at. In fact, nerf it!"
I say leave the existing stats the way they are! For the first charge....
I propose adding an element to the Plasma Cannon that allows for a stacking charge effect. On the first charge, which should happen at the same speed, keep the existing stats. But, if you hold the trigger, a second charge should begin, with the same or comparable charge time. if the trigger is released before the second charge completes, stage 1 damage and splash. If the second stage charges, increase damage to both Direct damage, AND Splash damage, but decrease the splash radius. (Describe it by saying that the Plasma had a higher energy state, and the magnetic field encompassing it is more powerful, too, reducing splash, or some such sci fi chicanery)
I would recommend this working up to a third stage and just releasing at that point. That way, it does massive damage to vehicles, but won't be OP to infantry, as the splash radius will then become negligible, but you won't have to hear complaints of a near miss causing no damage at all. Even the weapon bonus could stay the same, as charge time would be important versus vehicles bearing down on you.
A possible other feature that you could add is, with increased charge states, increase the speed of the shot accordingly.
Now... discuss! |

I say ad a lock on target mechanic like the swarmlauncher(only on vehicles) but let it still fire when you release the trigger so you can do damage to infantry as well.
If you release the trigger after locking is completed it hunts the vehicle like the swarms do. If you release the trigger without completing the locking on target it fires strait. In both scenarios it makes damage to infantry it hits as well.

You want to change the plasma cannon into a buster canon? Sort of like a plasm mortar launcher?
Interesting, but power alone won't help its slow trajectory, range, falloff. Or its effectiveness as an AV weapon.
I would prefer it if the PLC had a shallower trajectory more direct, and a bit faster. Think of it like a mini-forge gun for anti shield work.

How about give it a 3 or 4 round magazine size?
I don't even know why I bother.

I mentioned projectile speed in the post, Denn. You can have your cake and eat it, too. How would a ball of energy coated in a magnetic wrapper lock on, by the way? You have to be able to explain it as well. I do like the Mega Man reference, though.
Garth, were you trying to be the "better" post? If so, good, ya got that outta the way. I want you guys to discuss this recommendation of PLC build. |

this is a diamond in the ruff of a fourm section filled with nerf complaints this will make the weapon much more viable. It also makes it a great bridge beteewn anti-infintry and, Anti-armor. I support this 100%

I'm down with the PLC being a dumbfire weapon, but it seriously needs something to make it useful. I keep trying to maximize it's potential now... but its a chore

The Plasma Cannon is already set to be improved. It will get a breach and Assault Variant. The Breach variant will have arc while the standard and Assault don't. Damage will also be drastically improved.

+1 for the idea.
I love the charging mechanism you've depicted for the weapon. It gets stronger with every charge but has less of a splash radius as a result of each charge after the 1st. Basically gives the person the ability to decide between high precision damage or lower-damage splash. More useful against vehicles without the cries of infantry ruining your fun.

there is in fact a certain table top game that has a plasma cannon which is effectively a smaller version of our forge gun, it has to be charged up and it's charge builds up the longer it is held for but if it's charged too much it takes out it's owner, as it's an anti infantry weapon it gets a one hit kill, so it makes sense,it's balanced. I'm not saying that it should be carbon copied but it should be roughly how this one works. (it also fires quickly, etc.) |

The arc is also one of the things that kills it specially with the low projectile velocity.
