Rail has nearly quadruple ammo capacity, DPS as high as forge's damage per shot (nearly before damage mods!)
You can ADS, get to move faster than 5.5m/s, and can't be killed by every scrub with a rifle or a cloak.

So let me get this straight.
The FG can shoot a blast a little bit more powerful than it's railgun counter part... I know I shouldn't waste time breaking this down, as any person who isn't moronic already knows what I'm about to type, but I feel the need to rant, so here we go:
Railgun: 1 shot every .35 seconds 6 shots continuously Able to add up to 3 30% Damage Modifiers Attached to a mobile vehicle Attached to a higher HP base 4x the ammunition
Forge Gun: 1 shot ever 2.25, 3, or 4.5 seconds(after lvl 5) 1 shot non-continuous Able to add up to 4 5% damage mods with a harsher stacking penalty Attached to stamina plagued Merc Attached to lower HP base 4x less the ammunition
I'll take a stab and say that you're been getting popped by FGs lately. Well, good for them. And if they used a height advantage, ever better. Because they outplayed you at the simplest level. Here's an idea, take the time to learn the skill of tanking and accept the risks when you bring anything out onto the battlefield.
You're lack of awareness and team support is you're fault, not FG user's or CCP's. We all get popped by FGs time-to-time. Yes, it sucks, especially now when AV is garbage. But, we learn and get on with it. And, if for some reason the entire team is fielding AV, perhaps that 's the time to put you tank away and pull our a rifle and shoot a mass of unarmed enemies.
3 D's of Tanking: Demoralize Distract Disarm ...if you've done that while in your tank, you've done your job. ...you could also argue a 4th D for Destroy

They are not OP, but they are far more versatile in what they do. Being able to hide behind invincible cover while stepping out of cover compensates for the higher rate of fire a turret may have, but also there is the fact that a turret can fail to hit a forgegunner because of their small relative size (and bugs with hit projections but that's not really a part of the gun itself) The forgegun has a target that is almost impossible to miss when fired directly at it's point of motion.

tanks can only be killed by like 3 inf weapons in the whole game, and only 2 of those are effective, IE JLAVS and FG's.
Tanks are only kill able by like 5% of all in game weapons. Cry more as you drive safely past most of the infantry with rifles.
You are literally only kill able by the slowest most vulnerable unit in the game.
Slowest vulnerable unit hits hardest. not a hard concept to understand. |

AFAIK the Large Railgun Turrets have a 1.4s fire interval (your "refire time"), with a charge up time of 0.35s.

I can sometimes get ammo easy with a Forge Gun. If there are supply depots. Which there aren't, usually. Because they are destroyed by tanks in the early game. I have to be lucky and find a pile of nanohives, somewhere.
I can do higher possible damage, if I can hit you. But, your hardeners make hitting you pointless, almost. When the hardeners come up I just sit there and reload. Get back to 4 shots. Except then you just run away to the redline. At least I got 75 points out of it, though.
I only have 4 shots per clip. I can't fire anywhere near as fast. And, I can be one shot if a rail tank hits me dead in the face. Which happens, many, many times.
And you can run **** off to the redline very, very fast. I can waddle to cover in a slow manner whilst dying very fast to how powerful your main gun is and everyone else shooting at me.
And, did I mention how fast rails can fire?
I rarely kill tanks. Even with a proto Forge Gun. The best I can do is make you go away for a short period. Which is fine if I'm the only one doing anything. If I can get into a good spot, I can do some serious damage. But, I have to be able to get through the hardeners. Which is impossible because you always pop them and run away.
To say they are OP is freaking crazy. |

Come on guys - it's not personal.
I've always been a forge gunner, and with them being the least changed weapons through out the series, I have to disagree - there is nothing wrong with forge guns at all - except for the bug that has appeared once before which prevents the projectiles leaving the gun once in every few shots, but other than that, the restrictions to the class and the fact that you are only limited to a sidearm if you equip one - to deal with infantry, I find them almost perfectly balanced.

I have a better time sniping with my Forge Gun than I do with my sniper rifle. Though I think that means the sniper rifles are only good vs MLT, while the Forge is good for all infantry targets. Forge is fine, buff sniper rifles!
