I am still baffled as to why a loud tank cant be picked up by the radar. If i were to play dust with no audio, a tank could effectively sneak up on any suit. Does the tank adopt the scan profile of the pilot? So I think the main way to 'nerf' the tank would not to be kill is armor, sheilds, or damage, but to make it visible on the radar anytime it goes within the radius displayed on screen

I agree, something like a heavily armored tank should just be so easy to detect with radar that it shows up unless the tanker has some skill for dampning the tank or moduels that dampen. |

this is something that would likely be implemented when the assortment of vehicle modules that got eliminated make their triumphant return to service. Until then, i think we just have to deal with the mechanics we got |

I just had this happen before shutdown.
It is really frustrating to know the tank is there (kinda loud, hard to miss) but I need to know if it was to the right or the left. Well the surround sound didn't get me enough of a clue so I looked at my minimap. Nothing. I did see a squad mate that was on the other side of the tank though. I had to stick my head out, spot the tank, pull back and prepare for the attack.
Very odd that something with that much emissions (EFI, sounds, metal, radar, heat) doesn't show up at all. The tank was even on the same level as I was so it wasn't the 'will not render it because of height differences' issue.
Thanks for mentioning this.
And so it goes.

Yes, having the same issue STILL, I have a scout with an enhanced profile scanner and I still get tanks roll behind me that are not on my scanner.
I also have precision 5 and range 4, I do find that it's intermittent though, some are there and some not.

A tank not in line of sight will only show up on your radar if you actively or passively scan it. Since most suits have 10-15m of passive scan range, chances are you won't see it on the radar at all unless you have line of sight.
If you want to track tanks at a distance, either use a scanner or skill up passive scanning and use a scout suit. |

The reason is that your passive scanner has a short range of 10 meters on unskilled non-light dropsuits.
Seriously people, use your audio, you can hear tanks up to 100 meters away. Don't cry when a tank sneaks up on you! It's your fault you didn't hear it! There've been so many snipers I've been able to sneak up on, take some time to set up and get my aim to score a direct hit with a missile. Shame on you.
If I can hear other tanks whilst driving my own, then you have no reason to not hear a tank when running on foot.

A tank of that magnitude should show up regardless of ones own passive scanning. Yes i can hear the tank in the background but the direction can be hard to tell. I would be glad to have tanks keep their double and triple hardeners if they fix this one thing

Passive scans is why. It's only 10m.
And if you can't hear tank coming, you need to turn your sound up. If you hear a tank coming, and can't be bothered to look around for it, then it will get the jump on you, same as anything else
Best PVE idea I've seen.

Thats the issue. why can't a SOUND BASED scanning system pick up a tank outside of its normal range. If anything it should cause interference to the scanning of that direction

All vehicles should be visible on the mini-map regardless of scan range or precision.
Being able to hear a tank is meaningless if you can't tell which direction it's in. I've had countless experiences of knowing a tank is somewhere nearby (could be 10m, could be 100m!) but I have to ask my squadmates where the damned thing is! That's insane.

So just because your lazy ass can't be bothered to look around, we all have to pay the price of being visible? Some of us actually rely on stealth to win. I definitely need stealth as I'm stalking a hardened shield tank, waiting for its hardener to come offline so I can pop a volley up its ass.
Nobody is entitled to free information. You have to earn it. Either by improving your scanning abilities or moving your lazy ass to find said tank.

That will be reserved for scout and black ops vehicles, not bloody great hulking standard HAVs.
And there's nothing lazy about having no idea which corner a tank might be around and thinking that if you pop your head around the wrong one to check you're going to get your head blown off because he might be only 10m away when you can't tell if he is or might be 50m or 100m away. This isn't just about out in the open where there's open sight to everything - this is also about in the complexes where a building could be hiding a big ol' tank that's only a few meters away but you have no way to tell.

Yet I the situation I related my squad mate was looking at the tank. Still didn't show up.
This is technically a bug. Not that the Devs will think so. But it rarely happened before and has recently gotten different/worse.
And so it goes.
