The new Commando suits give to the local mercs, a much needed edge; Raw and absolute firepower. But I see some mercs not appreciating the full value of their shiny new suits. This, is my message and *guide* (KEYWORD THERE) to the new and powerful Commando Suits.
The Minmatar Commando
Standard: 1 High 1 Low Advanced: 2 High 1 Low Proto: 2 High 2 Low.
The Minmatar Commando is the fastest Commando suit by far. It's inherent Speed and Stamina recharge rate are ideal for hit and run tactics. Armed with an Assault Combat Rifle and a Mass Driver, the Minmatar Commando is used to move from objective to objective, clearing enemies for the team to move up. It can also be used to flank enemies already tied up in a firefight. It's bonuses to the Mass Driver allows even glancing hits to scare all but the toughest (or stupidest) Mercenaries.
The Minmatar Commando benefits greatly from damage mods and sprint boosters. Armour repairers and shield rechargers allow the Minmatar Commando to keep himself fighting fit for the next engagement. Drop Uplinks are ideal for this constantly mobile Commando suit, allowing for much needed troop support on certain objectives.
The Minmatar has inherent weaknesses in it's EHP, whilst it isn't terribly bad, it doesn't shine either. Ferroscale Armour Plates can help alleviate this problem whilst keeping the suits mobility.(Granted, the low slots can be used for better things) This Suit's strength, like all Minmatar designs, lies within it's speed. Keep yourself moving, and keep yourself alive.
The Gallente Commando
Standard: 0 High 2 Low Avdanced: 1 High 2 Low Proto: 1 High 3 Low
The Gallente Commando was built to brawl. It's bonuses to the Shotgun and the Assault Rifle give it unmatched close range capabilities. It's armour, while not the highest, is capable of withstanding a lot of punishment. The Gallente Commando is sent to the objectives when there are enemy Mercs in need of an ass kicking. The Shotgun has unparalleled one-shot capabilities. The Assault rifle is used for handling reds and medium ranges.
Gallente Commandos benefit greatly from Armour plating. Three armour plates give the Gallente Commando the tank he needs to wipe enemies from the face of the planet. The high slot (On Adv and Proto) can be filled with a damage mod for even more firepower.
A lone Gallente can be either easy prey, or the enemy's worse nightmare. Lacking in Armor repair, the Gallente can become weak after sustained firefights. Luckily, this can be remedied with the use of a quick replacement of a plate with an armour repairer. A good backup Logi, a Triage Nanohive or a cloak can fix the problem as well.
The Caldari Commando
Standard: 2 High 0 Low Advanced: 2 High 1 Low Proto: 3 High 1 Low
The Caldari Commando does what the Caldari do best. Neutralising targets from as far away as possible. The Caldari Commando suit utilises the Rail Rifle and the Sniper rifle to deal massive damage form afar. The Caldari Commando sports great versatility, being able to engage in frontline combat with its Rail Rifle and long range combat with its sniper rifle. It's many high slots allow it to fit many shield based modules, as well as damage mods if you are so well inclined.
As previously stated, the Caldari has unmatched shield capability. It's many high slots can keep it going for quite some time. The single low slot can be filled with either an Armour repairer or a CPU upgrade for added potential.
The Caldari excels at range, but may be at a disadvantage at the close ranges. Shield hardeners may help and a damage mod (how original) will help it drop enemies faster. A cloak is also idea for more close range engagements as well as helping the Caldari Commando to move freely.
The Amarr Commando
Standard: 1 High 1 Low Advanced: 1 High 2 Low Proto: 1 High 3 Low
The Amarr Commando is built like a brick. Slow moving, but willing to take all kinds of torture thrown at it. The issue is, the weapons it gets bonuses too aren't exactly helping it. BUT, what the Amarr Commando lacks in specialism, it makes up in being versatile in its low slots. It's roles include:
- Ultra Brick tanking (Plates)
- Speed Turtling (Speed Boosts and Stamina Upgrades)
- Hacker (Hack Upgrades)
- Scanner (Range Amps and Precision Amps) (Granted, this just helps you)
- Sneaky Ninja (Profile Dampener and Cloak)
All in all, the Amarr Commando makes for the most versatile Commando suit. It's Scrambler Rifle used for taking out enemies up close and the Laser Rifle for the Long range.

Nice run down. I stuck with the Amar Commando and have it fitted with a assault scrambler rifle and an advanced mass driver. Works real well, but you have to stay with a group or your toast! I have found that if I embed myself with a sentinel and logi, its a hard team to bring down. |

I think you're selling the Gallente short here/over selling the Amarr. Having the exact same layout, the Gallente can be a 'better' hacker (as it will have armor rep and greater speed), speed turtle (as it is naturally faster) and can be the exact same when it comes to scanner and dampening capabilities. The only one the Gallente doesn't best the Amarr on is pure tank, but, it can give it a run for its money (built in minimal rep can make a huge difference).
However, at Basic, the Amarr does have more versatility, which can be handy when you're trying to run on the cheap.
We really need to make these suits different.

Add a Scout to that group and you can become near unstoppable. The Commando and Heavy taking the brunt of the damage and dealing it back out, the Logi keeping them alive, and the Scout stealing an objective during the commotion. Its a brutal combo.
xSivartx is my Heavy. There are many like him, but he is my own...
So, other Logi's back off, those are my Warpoints!

You are indeed correct.
The Gallente Suit far exceeds the Amarr Suit.
I need to perhaps fix it up a bit. |

You are right my friend! There are always scouts, just trying to keep them near the group is the hard part. |

Dual swarm launchers on a minni commando. You get allot of extra damage from the explosive bonus, as well as a nice reload bonus. It allows people to put lots of damage on a target, quickly. I can fire 6 swarms (6*6=36 missiles). Most tanks can't survive six swarms unhardened. Also, it makes isk like crazy.

I must say that the Gal commando works a lot better with the PLC than a shotgun. I find the slow speed means by the time you get close to anyone to shoot them, you're already dead. I'd much rather put a shotgun on a scout or go HMG heavy for CQC brawling.
The PLC works really well on a gal commando as the reload and damage bonuses are really useful and you can swap out to another light weapon and sweep up whatever you missed easier than if you only had a sidearm. It can function well as both an AV (especially if against shield tanks) and an anti-infantry fit.

Why does everyone think that 0.2 m/sec makes one suit so much faster than another? I also dont see how a slow gallante commando can get so close to someone to be able to use a Shotgun. And finally why does everyone also think that 50 hp is such an advantage? |

Any light weapon on any commando will still get the reload bonus and the racial damage bonus isn't really a necessity for most weapons.
Though, I'd never use a shotgun on a Commando. They're just too slow to get in range to attack.

Put rail rifle with an assault rail rifle on the Calmmando and you'll have better CQC capabilities as well as long and mid range. I think the one buff it could use is a better shield recharge rate and less shield recharge delay. Yes you can do this with modules but with how few you get you have to sacrifice EHP and have no armor repair.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

I really, really want a grenade slot on a min command suit. Flux grenade would be an amazing combo with all those explosives.
Besides, I think the low number of H/L slots and slow speed already compensate for having higher based HP and two light weapons. Hell, I would take a grenade slot that only had 1 grenade capacity.

Very well said and detailed.
Amarr Commando is awesome when combined with LRs and ASRs. Can't wait for my proto suit.
Also, I find that depending on the map and your tactics, Calammandos with both variants of RRs (standard and assault) do better than the RR/SnR combo.
For Gallente purists, if you find your Galmmando taking the high ground more often, swapping the Shotty for a Plasma Cannon can work wonders.

I love my Gal Commando, but after reading this I wish it were easier to spec or at least try the other suits with a small bonus.
I know this is frowned upon, but I've been using a STD Gal with a STD AR and Ion pistol. Works really well actually. I'll drop one of those for a PLC after the event, but for now it's really nice.
Edit:just in case you were wondering, with max hp skills I have 312/500 with no mods.

Commandos are to slow to use shotguns? TIP: let them come to you!
Scouts will attack commandos up close allowing for OHK. You could also stand behind a friendly hacker and pop anyone that tries to stop them. Running with an AR as well means that you can continually utilize your range weapon and simply switch out if the enemy gets too close for comfort. Just because you have a shotgun doesn't mean you automatically have to go seeking out the enemy.
I'm a scout but my ALT is a G-commando and I destroy anything that comes to close (even proto sentinels and cloaked scouts). The only real problem is that the gallente weapons are anti-shield so going against other Gs or As can be a bit more difficult.

Caldari mando with RR and PLC is nice as your recovery is fast you can poke with the PLC. That said I want a rail based light AV weapon or to get rid of this silly limit on type of hybrid weapon. |
