So I have been trying to decide which suit I would like to spec into with the skill points I was refunded. I have more than enough for a proto suit and am leaning toward gallente or caldari (or maybe minmatar) scout. Throughout uprising I ran caldari assault and thoroughly enjoyed it. At the beginning of uprising, I ran extenders and regulators, then later ran dampeners and plates in place of the regulators. So, which of these scout suits would you recommend to me and why? Personally, I feel like the caldari scout would be what I would be most comfortable in, but, please, try to change my mind if you can.

Caldari: Better scan precision, meaning it's better for hunting other Scouts. Better shield stats, meaning it can pop in and out of cover rapidly and actually be recovering HP while doing so. Almost no armour, so if you lose your shields, you pretty much ARE dead already. Good speed and stamina along with the ability to carry two equipment items, one of which can be a cloak with minimal fitting problems. Lots of high slots for shield tanking and giving yourself a decent amount of HP.
Gallente: Better scan profile, meaning it's harder to find for other Scouts or enemies with scanners. Not as good shield stats as Caldari, but not bad. Built in passive armour rep, meaning you don't need to fit reppers and can regenerate from damage. Stacking plates can give good HP, but will cost a little speed. Using other options for less HP gain without the speed loss is probably better here. Unlike shields, armour rep is constant, though slower as a base. With the low HP on Scouts, though, you can recover fast enough to rely on your passive regen between fights. As with CalScouts, can fit cloak and a second equipment item, or two non-cloak equipment slots. Unlike the Caldari Scout which can only fit one dampener, these can be stacked for extra sneaky sneaky goodness (add in the cloak's dampening bonus and you can hide from anything).
Working close to a friendly Squad and using your scanning to give teammates early warning about approaching threats can be awesome for a Caldari Scout suit, and using your cloak to catch those enemies off-guard, flank or lure/funnel them where you want them. You can control enemies with superior situational awareness.
The Gallente suit is at its best when working behind enemy lines, disrupting enemy movements, pulling squads away from combat to deal with a lone enemy, and helping the team without directly supporting your teammates. It's possible for a Gallente suit to be literally invisible to all scanners, and with a cloak, you can amplify that advantage by being harder to spot even when you're in line of sight.
Both Gallente and Caldari Scout suits are great for the role, but they excel in different areas.
How do you want to play? |

You do raise a good question, and thank you for that. I really would like to do a little of both. It would be nice to be able to avoid most scanners and see most foes. Having said that, I feel the gal would give me more versatility with its low slots, but I am still drawn towards the cal scout for its high ehp when only stacking shields. Is there some quality that the gal scout possesses that might really be alluring to me (in your opinion)?

If you're not planning on filling that role and playing as a primarily behind-enemy-lines player or a sneaky mobile sniper, you're probably better off with the Caldari suit. |

Only go scout if you are planning on being a hit and run type player who is used to picking his engagements instead of front line tank-n-gank. Suits are constantly going through adjustments to find happy mediums so do not base your decision upon what they are like now but rather what their role is intended to be.
If you use any non-hp mods then you are going to be somewhat of a glass cannon so you need to have a playstyle that suits that.

I have an alt that I specced min scout on and I have a lot of fun on it. I have always played in a hitnrun style while stacking shields. I used regulators when plates were complete trash and ran dampeners when scanners were prevalent. I feel like I know I want cal, but I just want to be sure.

It has interesting quirky strengths that are overshadowed by other Scouts. I love my Minja ALT to death but if it was my Main I would have quit Dust shortly after Uprising 1.0

use protofits.com and fit up a cal and gal scout. See which one has the attributes that you like the best and go with that.
