Here is the thing. At the time I was deciding what weapon to spec into the only rifle available that wouldn't put me at a huge disadvantage was the AR. By disadvantage I am referring to the Mini Logis ability to carry one gun. So the AR was the best choice to kill CQC and at mid range. Since the release of the different racial weapons I have been specing into the CR and haven't/won't equip an AR again.
I'm am a Minmatar extremist, only specing into Mini suits and weapons. If the CR was available to me at the time I wouldn't have SP wasted in a weapon I never use. I'm sure other people fell into this same trap. SP is a valuable thing. Since the start (beta) I wanted to be pure Minmatar (I enjoy role-playing a bit).
All I want is my SP back from the AR. I have never been a FOTM chaser. Instead march to the beat of the Minmatar Spirituals. The only thing I can do is wait and hope for a weapon SP refund after the heavy racial and AV racial weapons have dropped. Until then try not to think about the wasted SP or the 200+ Duvolles I have sitting around. Can't wait until I can donate those things to charity.

SP is a valuable thing. Although it's value diminishes when you get silly SP refunds like the one you're asking for. I'll, probably, never use Flaylock pistols again, to be fair I was using them before it was cool and then everyone started using them I AIN'T NO FOTM CHASER DAWG!, but it doesn't mean I should get those points back.
Then explain to me why we got a SP refund for dropsuits? According to your logic we shouldn't have bc it was already spent. If everything was release at once I wouldn't be asking for any SP back. I would have skilled into everything Minmatar. It would be pretty shady of CCP to continuously realease new racial gear and con people into buying booster to run their race. I have bought boosters and gave CCP my money to gain SP a bit faster, which is fair in my book. What I won't do is buy boosters when I have wasted SP bc my races racial gear was not available to me at the time.
Like I said I KNOW what I wanted to do on dust since I first made my Minmatar clone.

Because half the classes were complete and half of them weren't. There was only one heavy suit FFS so it's not they even had any options to chose from. Only the SP for light and heavy frames should have been refunded. But everyone would have bitched and moaned if they did that and I guess CCP just didn't want to deal with everyone's bullshit.
Same concept for the weapons. How many existed at the start? If the game had everything available I would understand the, "You spent the SP it's gone agruement."
Let's try a different view point. Hypotheticly all racial weapons and assets are released. Heavy weapons and vehicles. Two corps are going against each other in PC. One is pure Minmatar the other is pure Gallente. Aside from the inherent advanatges of weapon type and damage resistance. The Gallente would hold a huge advantage. Their weapons and vehicles have been here since the start and they have the Skills maxed and was able to spend the extra SP into Core Skills. The Minmatar's haven't and were "forced" (no other choice at the time) to waste SP into another race's tech.
Of course that scenario doesn't exist. But the point Dust has race differential, so why should one race be gimped bc their gear wasn't available.

Because half the weapon selections were complete and half weren't. There was only one racial Rifle variant the last time we got a respec that applied to weapons, there were no Gallente or Caldari ranged Sidearms (Caldari get NKs), and now there are several more of each. Why shouldn't we have got a refund on the existing Rifles when they gave those full racial parity? Why didn't they give us a refund for sidearm SP after adding the Magsec and Ion/Bolt PIstols?

Let them take their time but they need to be open and get our feedback into consideration...
I'm just getting excited and having a harder time waiting lol. I've been quietly waiting for sooo long.
This thread really opened my eyes to the type of player base we have here on Dust or at least the forums. All there is to do is wait. I wonder how many people will change their stance when the racial heavy weapons/vehicles drop though. From "NO REFUND you spent it" to "Well it wasn't available to me at the time so I think it's fair to have the choice".

Stop being stupid. You know damn well that is a completely different situation from what was going on with dropsuits. Which was a totally unique situation and a one-time deal. So black and white isn't it? Well it's not. While I agree SP spent should "Mean" something it actually means very little in a competitive FPS environment where diversity and specialization is preach when one race has to gimp theirselves (save SP) while Minmatar they wait for their supplemental equipment to be released (in this case weapons).
Take 2 players, each have the same amount of SP. Player A is Gallente, Player B is Minmatar.
Player A would hold a distinct advantage over player B. Player A's gear has been here and he skilled into it. Player B's wasn't so he either hasn't spent his SP and been gimped the whole time, just now on a level playing field. Or he skilled into the only things available to him which doesn't help him at ALL now that there is racial parity and is currently gimped.
If balance is what we all truly desire then act like it.

I have maxed out the AR, and even max skill into it. I feel robbed because of the recent nerf to the assault weapons. I took all the time to completely max it out just for it to get nerfed and now NO one or I hardly uses it.
A minor changes for balence issues does not warrent a refund. A major game changing dynamic such as racial bonus and racial weapons does.

So you have a problem comprehending what you read, don't you? How would this "break the game" by allowing Minmatar and Caladari an even playing field? That they would be able to skill into their racial weapons and have SP in their core skills such as a Gallente or Amarr? I'm not trading the AR for, "the best something else". I'm "trading" it for MY RACIAL WEAPON!!!!! Which wasn't an option for me when I skilled into the AR. No sir I do not FOTM thank you very much. I skill into MINMATAR! Which to someone as simple minded as you seems to be the FOTM bc, MY RACIAL GUN DIDN'T FREAKIN EXIST!!!

1st LMAO! I understand where you are coming from. I saved for the longest time but the comes a point in time where you don't enjoy playing the game bc you know that little bit of extra kick for your weapon would make all the difference. Still I don't feel CCP should force players into gimping their merc while they wait. IDK in my mind it's like this, Why should I buy boosters to put myself on a level playing field while I have SP into a weapon I wanted nothing to do with in the first place. But skilled into to stay competitive while the Devs took their time releasing content that should have been in before the "official release". Yes it's a "free game", CCP wants you to spend money on boosters and AUR. I would be more willing to fork over my cash if I didn't feel like I was getting screwed from behind with no lube, sandpaper rubber and a hair dryer running.
