So keep in mind i have yet to play 1.8 i have only kept up with the forums banter and lovely videos by Cyrius Li Moody and Nakaya Indigene so dont give me too much flak for this idea
This is more a response to the idea that fluxes should deactivate cloaks, and i agree that they shouldnt, but i would think that they still need a hard counter.
Simply put the counter would be active scanners; a succesful scan would deactivate the scanned scouts cloak and thus act as a hard counter to the infamous new mechanic CCP has introduced. Though I think we would need to rework the scanner numbers perhaps? I havent tried it but im all for the new scanner snapshot mechanic i think it could be improved by effectively making it the EWAR gun, so we can catch those sneaky scouts with their pants down!
Sorry for any granatical or syntax errors im on mobile waiting for my flight back so i can fiy try 1.8!

Thats why i proposed changes to scanner stats in some way shape or form. I just thing there needs to be something that hard counters and deactivates cloaks but not one that also does 1500 or more damage to shields, EQ vs EQ makes more sense to me

Definitely have to play it though, Tibs. I'm glad that ewar is getting a fair shake, it also means that mercs are using stuff besides damage mods and hp buffers.
On topic, I don't like the profile bonus on top of the invisibility. It only needs the one benefit.
Scanners were nerfed too much while scouts were buffed. Seems CCP like to buff something and simultaneously nerf it's counter ( 1.7 av/tanks). But I totally agree that a proto scanner should pick up everything but a dedicated dampening scout.

I agree that there should be a way to counter cloaked scouts but it souldn't be that easy to hit them, I don't want to be decloaked by a advance when I have proto dampeners on. That saying, I don't want to be the one on the receiving end of there gun. I also use the scaner and its turned to ****. As long as I can see them on radar I'm just fine though. I can see them even when cloaked. So all I need is the radar to show me where they are. But there should be a "time to show" + "How much they show" = "Value of equipment." to make things fair. |

Perhaps scanners dont even need to "paint" damped targets but instead innately has the feature of deactivating cloaking fields, that way the cloaked scout isnt painted but exposed and thus made vulnerable, and if you truly want to pick up that ultra damped scout you figure out how to fit a focused scanner on your suit
But yes i know im itching to play dust! Just a few hours away from home sweet home!

Maybe instead of changing active scanner numbers just drop the active dampening of the cloaks from 25%? Maybe something closer to 10% would be a better fit.

I'll have a better idea after i try 1.8 for my self but to those who have; thoughts?
If there is a hard counter make cloaked scout at least invisible while they are walking. I know using Eyes and such has got ot of style. But it still works. Its just anybody wants to rush mindlessly forward. I have benn killed at ridicoulous distances while cloaked and I have dies often and I have killed a lot cloaked scouts as well. Sooo its possible and its not even that hard. But apedting was never a strenght for the majority of this community... |

Hmmmmm. I like it! My only add to it is you have to be in within sight for it to effect the cloak. I have the feeling of being decloaked at bravo from alpha In the gal research facility will be a little op. no problem with draining my cloak completely or by half.

My idea for a hard counter would bee equipment based. Similar to a proximity mine. Once deployed it emits a field that deactivates cloaks if a cloaked merc passes through the field.
I would rather look bad and win, than look good and lose.

I think this is a silly idea.
Fluxes are single use, have a max of two grenades, a small radius, and make way more sense from a technical standpoint (electromagnetic distortion) in terms of why they should deactivate cloaks. Scanning on the other hand is broad, multi-use, and requires way less skill to utilize.
I don't see any reason why flux grenades WOULDN'T break someone out of cloak. They "destroy low-level electronic equipment and disrupt shielding" which is another way of saying it acts as an electromagnetic pulse. The Cloak field on the other hand "absorbs electromagnetic emissions and manipulates light". These are both taken straight from their descriptions.
Besides, fluxing someone out of cloak would take way more skill than sitting in a corner scanning everywhere.

Just start shooing really only works when using an automatic weapon.

The 25% dampened helps other dropsuits stay competitive but the Gallente becomes the Master Ghost since it already has an innate dampening bonus and the Caldari Scout will never detect a Gallente Scout using 1dampener+cloak.
If only the Caldari Scout's precision enhancements were better it would be less hasle to counter those demi Gods
