AfroSunshineY Consequence wrote:At this point I am willing to let the cloak die in order to let the other buffs the scout has received, no matter how meager, persist. As feared, try-hards are abusing our beloved suit, corrupting the way of the ninja. This will not stand. The silly thing is the cloak is designed for UNTANKED scouts. Its supposed to be a mechanism of letting a light and fast suit move around the battle field without getting blapped at every turn. The cloak was supposed to be used in lieu of armor/shield stacking --- it was supposed to act as our defense when we had none. Now it is being abused and this makes me so sad because the cloak really is balanced. It gives you a chance for a high alpha, but at the same time is visible enough that it can be seen with the naked eye out more than 100 m away. It's being abused by what I will now refer to as "Triple-Tanked" Scouts. Armor. Shields. Cloak. It's simply too much.
This is where I'm coming from too. I like our other recent buffs so much more than the cloak and I worry that the brick tanked scouts + cloak is going to get us nerfed, just like how slayer logis got true logis nerfed. I know the cloak isn't going away, but all these post 1.8 scouts and folks like my friends who are doing scout tourism with their Dragonfly suits and 1 level in cloaking are going to screw us over I think.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

My Opinion
Before 1.8 scouts relied on skill to avoid detection. The cloak lessens that skill. I don't mind a cloak existing in Dust but if it is going to lessen the skill required to sneak around then it needs to harbor the drawbacks it needs.
I have caught numerous scouts using the cloak haphazardly but die because within moments a shotgun is out before I can see that they are decloaking. I've killed quite a few of them but every other cloaked scout gets me not because they used the cloak right but rather because even when I have an advantage they have an advantage over me.
I go all out to make fits that are cloak proof. I have dual complex precision enhancers and catch a large majority of them on passive scan but I am at a serious disadvantage because the most popular thing to do is put as much HP on and cloak. While I normally say "don't tell people how to run their suit" I don't think that the cloak should be that cheap to fit.
So even as I try hard to avoid detection without a cloak, I am not rewarded for doing so because for the swapping out of one piece of EQ I could have a superb advantage and sacrifice little.
So to see the cloak go away would just make the scout a little more bland. The cloak needs to stay but needs to be something that just isn't thrown on willy nilly it needs to come with consequences. |

Zahle Undt wrote:Would any of you ladies and gentlemen care if the cloaking device went away? I haven't played my Gal scout much since 1.8 landed though I did fully skill into the cloak. I see on the forums that cloaked/brick tanked mini assaults are pissing people off. People are QQing about the cloak and other people are defending the device as if it was their dear sweet mother's honor. Personally what little I have used it I find the cloak kind of fun but absolutely unnecessary to effectively play a scout. I am not calling for it to be removed or nerfed, I can't say I really have an opinion on it yet, except in general I prefer to see counters to things added to the game as opposed to content taken out of the game or nerfed.
I can't say I'm an old school scout having only gotten into it a couple months before the update, but I have to admit I liked the scout suit being a little more rare. So what are you real scout vets opinion on cloaks?
Let me keep my extra equipment slot and cal scout skill bonus and the cloak can burn in hell for all I care, it's not even that useful except for the ocasional lol |

I actually had more fun in other builds with my minja, once I got the hang of what was going on. Now that there are plenty of scout hunters out there, and I am not as invisible tacnet wise as I was previously, I often feel I need the cloak as an active dampener.
I ran one match without it, and I may make other fits that don't have it, but for the time being I would at the very least feel vulnerable without it. Even if it is more of a mentality than actuality.

Ivan Avogadro wrote:cloak is fun times, and not unbalanced. it's ridiculously easy to kill a cloaker, or die while using one.
The problem is what it always was: TTK is wonky, and CCP doesn't have good definitions for roles. Assaults and Scouts are too similar. I'd actually like it if scouts went back to Type II closed beta suits. 2 equip, No sidearm. We have the 2 equip now, why do we still have sidearm? Maybe let the amarr keep it's sidearm.
But that would help the Assault stand out more from the crowd.
Logi = 3 equip slots, bonus to equip use Scout = 2 equip slots, very low signal, very high detection Assault = 1 equip slot, sidearm included
Then I doubt anyone would care about "brick scouts" since they gave up raw power in exchange for speed, intel, and utility.
I support a no sidearm scout, but only if Knives became equipment. Along with the PLC and Swarm
