So, if you get lag, that TOTALLY means your enemies are lag switching, right? Right?? |

The term "lag switch" encompasses many methods of disrupting the network communication between a console and its server. One method is by attaching a physical device, called a hardware lag switch, to a standard Ethernet cable. By flipping the switch on and off, the physical connection between the console and the server is disrupted. The newest generation of gaming consoles has built in protection against lag switches in the form of voltage detectors, which detect a change in voltage when the switch is flipped. Some manufacturers have taken counter measures to bypass or trick this detector.[4] This can also be achieved by simply unplugging the Ethernet cord going to the console, causing a disruption in the player's internet connection. Other methods, called a software or wireless lag switch, involve using a computer program. In this method, the cheater runs an application on a computer connected to the same network as the console. The application hogs the network bandwidth, disrupting the communication between the console and its server. However, one cannot do this for an unlimited amount of time. Usually, having no internet connection for 30 seconds will cause one's character / player to be kicked from the game due to inactivity / no internet connection
By this definition lag switching is the act of tricking the game server into thinking you are lagging while in reality you are not. What this does is make your player teleport around the game from other players perspective's but from your perspective everything is fine and not lag ridden.
Secondly because Dust is a server hosted game and not client side, It monitors all server client interactions and will notice if someone attempts to cheat. It also means that if someone was to attempt lag switching it would merely disconnect them from the server.
There is this thing called research. Maybe you should try doing some before toting off some BS.
And just because I am not a complete ass I will also inform you that what you are experiencing is just plain old fashioned lag.
No you kill this blueberry hacking the CRU we are camping. I already killed the last 2.

While I can't speak for every single situation I find these sorts of things lend themselves very well to Occam's Razor. The most common element among all these stories of the mythical "lag switch" for DUST is usually the suspiciously convenient timing of the lag spike. As soon as you move to engage the enemy all of a sudden you mysteriously lag and they kill you.
For this to be caused by a hacker one must assume one or more of the following:
- They have gained access to either the server, your PS3/network, or the PS3/network of all players on your team.
- They have some system which can identify and target you specifically that is fast enough to prevent you from even being able to fire a shot before you become frozen with lag
- That connection can be maintained indefinitely and utilized instantly when needed
- That connection is completely undetectable
- Violating international law and risking a lengthy prison sentence is an acceptable risk to win at DUST.
- They have developed some previously unknown method or modified an existing technique of data packet manipulation which will fool any attempts at detection by the server and gives them some sort of advantage. NOTE: In the interest of full disclosure I was involved in a lengthy discussion about the possibility of utilizing this method but I left before anyone could establish exactly what it would actually do for you in the game.
OR:
- The lag seems so conveniently timed because your internet connection was already weak to begin with. When you engaged the other player you started firing your weapon and receiving their position and actions along with anything else going on in you immediate vicinity and the increased data load was too much for your connection and you lagged out.
- Same problem as above but the lag is instead caused by an optimization issue with either the server, your PS3, or both.
I know I'm being a **** but the misinformation and lack of common sense that always shows up whenever this issue is raised has gotten very old. I could be completely wrong about all of this. I didn't intend this to be the definitive work on the subject but instead an exercise in critical thinking and reasoning. Although I do believe it to be correct.

How many times are we going to have to repeat this?

When I get a copious amount of Lag, I usually check supply depots for equipment spam. Research Facility is notorious for this because the map has optimization issues to begin with.
One day I was getting so hard lag I must have been down to 2 frames per second. Sure enough the supply room was humming from the ground level. 1 flux later I scored 500+ war points in equipment destroys alone. 1 Flux!

Lag switch is pretty hard to detect for servers that parts is missing here. With the RR i have that with random enemies so it must be a bug(i believe that).
When you are charging the RR is normal to sometime lose the entire magazine or is a bug too?.

That's right you can't lagswitch here. Still, I must admit, sometimes weird things happens and generally, the closest the battle server is to you, the better you play. I'd never play on US / Asia battle server, unless I seriously want to die a lot.
