the hotfix-info about the small Rail Turret (that has never ever been any issue in the way of OP-ness - but instead definitely the other way around for a long long time) HAS to be:
Small Rail Turret: finally delivered the announced and in it's description included blast-damage and radius
AND NOT Small Rail Turret: NERFED Small Rail Turret's range outta giggles!!!
i've specced into level5 Gal. ADS, level5 Small Rail Turret, level5 Small Rail Turret Ammo Capacity and level5 Small Rail Turret at 1.7 day 1 after i testet it's firing style, damage and efficiency versus instalations for a single match (to see if the flaws and bugs it had pre-1.7 were fixed) - but what i could not see like this was that you've forgotten/ messed up the includement of it's blast-damage/ radius it always had before!
so i COMPLETLEY WASTED SOOO MANY MILLION SP on this one as i am penalised to fly my Incubus only with Missile-Turret instead to make any impact on the battle, as with the Small Rail from an ADS out, it's almost impossible to hit ground troopers from above height-levels (not to mention the over abundance of speedy Scouts we have now in 1.8 - the hardest to hit directly from above height-levels)!
so i was waiting for 3 1/2 months now for you to finally fix in 1.8 this embarrassing crap you've done there to my character - but what are you intending to do tomorrow instead? nerfing an aspect of it? ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME?
please overthink this one again and deliver any changes to it ONLY together with a fix - or the fix first as it should be! |

I was planning to wear a heavy suit, stack EHP and ride around in a LAV with a small rail gun turret being almost unstoppable...But that dream has been crushed.

200 meters may be bad for dropships, but LAV's usually work in that range anyway.

Have you any idea how high 200m is. that's the height of the MMC. At 300m from a small rail on a dropship enemies barely render. Even at 200m people and vehicles below are small. personally, as a max inki pilot, I can't see too much of an issue

hello there! this thread is NOT about the change of the range of the Small Rail Turret itself (which i personally don't care about either) - but about something very, very different - something that makes me currently sitting here at home, boiling and raging to a degree where i am afraid that i am about to explode RIGHT NOW!!
and that not any DS-Pilot but you entered this thread of mine now, acting like/ mistakenly thinking that it would be about some totally unimportant 100 meters, surely doesn't help here... . |

so what is the complaint exactly? Your OP was a rambling mess that is nearly impossible to comprehend. You are upset because they changed the railgun after you spent SP on it? 300m was OP, you had an OP gun. It got nerfed in range only and you can still use them on your ADS.
CCP needs to balance the game but can't be giving respecs every single time. Harden up, make more SP, buy missile skills if you really want to. Until then, either use rail turrets or don't. But everyone in the game has had something changed after they bought it.

You mentioned, in CAPS I might add, that the small rail was nerfed. So your op does contain comments about the small rail, specifically that a range change was a nerf. I am responding to that point, and that point alone. It is not a nerf. My comment was relevant to your OP in that you claim that a nerf was applied rather than other changes you feel would have been better. I am countering a point you made in your post. In that way my comment is completely relevant.
Oh, as a side note you didn't mention the bugged small rail efficiency.

So, from what I barely understood from the OP, you are upset because they haven't touched the blast radius of the small rail turret?
I don't get the issue here, rail turrets never seemed to be designed as anti-infantry, but more as installation/vehicle destroyers. If you want to take out infantry, use a blaster or a missile turret. And I don't think being able to shoot only from 200 meters instead of 300 meters is going to make much of a difference for an ADS pilot when the targets are so tiny.

The small railgun change should be the least of your worries, 200m is still very far out and you won't be reliably hitting anything past that anyways (for the most part)
You SHOULD be concerned about MLT tanks being buffed by your hardeners being nerfed, since CCP sees no problem with stacking damage mods in the redline. The range nerf to rails does nothing to address this, as it's still half the map that they cover, but now they will do more damage to you, which they already do plenty of.
Range was never a big problem with large railguns, it was the damage and the redline. Neither of these were addressed, only buffed through decreased hardeners.

this thread is not about any 100 meters range decrease tomorrow i don't care about - this is thread is about how frustrating it is to not get the fixes to something broken i specced so much into, nor even just an official reaction to it - and the first thing you hear from them 3 1/2 months later about it is a "we found a problem in nerfing it - nerfing it tomorrow then" - regardless of how less impact that nerf has, i want my huge SP investment to get fixed first or together with the other change - or even just finally any ETA, reaction, acknowledgement about the issue.
and i think my original post was pretty clear enough about that - but now all you mad people come in here and think (and some even insist on) that i would care about the particular content that was announced for tomorrows change instead, making me write down even more ridiculous walls of text in a last effort to not loose my last remaining bits of sanity over the described situation and your trolling - well, done! i think i exploded now!

Uh ... I don't know if CCP realizes this but based on the numbers they gave us back before 1.7 came out the Small Railgun NEVER had a 300m range. Beyond the fact that I've used the thing for months now and I've pretty much never been able to shoot someone outside of 200m the listed stats never said that the thing's max range was 300m.

Small Railgun Optimal Range : 175m Small Railgun Effective Range : 250m (I've never gone beyond 200 in my experience, at that point the distances involved+hit detection make the thing unwieldy)
So it seems to me that they're just decreasing its effective range to 200 .... which is more or less the point where it stopped working effectively anyway.
I'm more surprised that they didn't just outright buff the Small Blaster's damage, the Small Railgun is still going to be the best weapon type on a ground vehicle.

Huh? The range made the redline fits viable, 600m gave you full coverage of the map from redline to redline in some cases. Yeah the damage / rate of fire of the Large Railgun is still going to be obscene but the multiple 30%+ damage mod setups were only a thing worth using if you could actually cover a large portion of the map ... while sitting in the safety of the redline.
