As a long time Dust Scout Vet, I've been playing dust for almost 2 year now. Heavies now feel like they did back in FanFest 2012 build Which is good and bad at the same time, let me explain.
Heavies back then where a 12 or 16x skill, while scouts and assualt we're only a 1x skill meaning most people skilled into either a scout or assualt, which meant there we're barely any heavies on the field, but the few that where on field packed nearly as much health as current day heavies and there HMG where almost like current day hmg but did more damage. This made them a force to been reckoned with and they could change the tide a battle. Engaging heavies back then was a challenge but one that was made so much more rewarding once you took down your foe.
Then the E3 2012 build came and heavies we're a laughing stock, they had there HP slashed and the feared HMG was made into a pee shooter. Along with that they lowered the entry level and made it the same across all suits (i believe it was 2x or 3x) This took all fun out of killing heavies.
Skip forward a year and a half and heavies regained there old EHP and there HMG, with a uncapped turn speed. which is awesome but now that the bar is even across the board and skilling into heavies takes just as much as any other suit, you have the scenario we have now where matches consist of 60-80% heavy suits 30-15% scouts and the rest are medium suits.
Don't get me wrong i love the fact that heavies finally got back there EHP and damage for the HMG. But now the sheer number of heavies in any match is just ridiculous. In my personal opinion they should cap the amount of heavies on the field at anyone time just like they do with vehicles, but keep there EHP and HMG damage stats, hell depending on cap amount you could even raise the EHP.
With a cap this would make the heavies feel important and more of a badass and making them a huge asset that you don't want to lose, akin to tanks, at the same time giving everyone else the same feeling after popping a proto tank, when they finally bring down a heavy suit. Its kinda a win win if you ask me.
And to determine who would be the ones in the heavies could be done a couple differnt ways.
1. Before match a prompt would ask you "would you like to play as a heavy" and all those those who selected yes would then go on a list and be sorted by max skill into heavy suits and heavy weapons, those with the most skill points would then be picked and as soon as one of the selected player switches suit type (ex Scout) he losses his access to playing as a heavy in that match. Which would then go to the next person on the list, notifying him he can now access heavy suits. This approach would heavily favor those who actually invested into the suit type and would ensure satisfaction of heavy vets.
2. First come first serve, who ever spawned in first with a heavy suit would fill the role and upon clone death, that role would be up to anyone who wanted to play as a heavy. This favors newer players and would not always guarantee vets there place on the team as a heavy
Let me know your thoughts on the idea

Heavies are not powerful enough to justify a hard cap.
Fixing the rotation speed cap would be the more practical approach.

I love the intent of what your proposing but in delivery it will impose to many limits on the playerbase. This game is supposed to be a sandbox of a FPS/RPG. By making a certain class only useable by the highest SP players in the game you are imposing unnatural limits that should not be part of this game.
If players want to have a whole team of heavies, more power too them. If they want to all run with plasma cannons and scout suits, fine.

This is a mixed reply, as I agree entirely about the heavy issue (which apparently will be addressed in a hotfix) but completely disagree on your solution. While I never thought the numbers of something should be limited in this game (such as equipment and vehicles), I understand the need for the base limits initially put down by CCP.
They wanted a larger nonlogi population, they just overshot it a bit. So while there definitely is an issue, I don't think it is bad enough to warrant anything more than a routine hotfix, that will likely be too far in the other direction, so they will do it again to just slightly below where we are today (using eHP/slot/etc hotfix) to be finished SoonGäó.
As for a heavy being/feeling like a unique snowflake, I say this. More bad heavies = more easy kills for MY heavy.......the fat guy standing less than 11m in front of me. The idiot heavy will likely figure out he isn't God pretty fast anyway. I would like to take advantage of their stupidity as long as I can.
Regardless, I think anyone should play whatever they feel like. As long as they don't intentionally lose matches, by suiciding continuously, then I am all for a match of mine to have 31 heavies + me.
P.S. If troll, is very good one. +1 for ingenuity coming up with argument for limiting # suit type allowed in-match. Never occurred to me it was possible to use that as a troll till I was 3/4 through my reply. If serious, then I apologize for the insult thinking it could be a troll. Just covering my bases/ass without an edit being there. |

well the thing is price does control scarcity in this game. if something is expensive it's less likely to be seen in play, what it doesn't control is power level and balance.
for proof of this just look at tanks, the second they became cheap they started to be spammed in every game, back when heavies were more expensive then assaults that was the down side to using a heavy and thus you saw less of them.
if something is expensive it shouldn't make it innately over powered, likewise something cheap shouldn't be weak, all it can control is how rare it is.
so if you want something to be powerful you can balance it as being powerful and if you want it to be rare you make it expensive, but the two things cannot and should not be related.
if their are too many heavies in a match raise the price, and you will see less of them, of course this comes with it's own issues i.e only the rich will be able to afford to use them, but imo that gives players something to strive for, and old players something to spend their isk on. |

Here the thing though, this is a unique game and people who come in from like CoD, Halo,ect. Expect us all to have same strength/weakness.....and apparently they will go to the ends of the universe to make that happen as they don't just suck it up and play or quit playing. In Team Fortress 2 if talked to a bunch that have played this game and love it cause everything has its own role unlike other games were anyone can do anything(anyone can pick use a snipe,rpg,c4,ect) so these other franchise player come in try to change this game and CCP cant tell the differents (and some don't play the game apparently to know what needs done) between us loyal Mercs. And the cannon fodder who want nothing more than to ruin a great ad unique game

It already is fixed.
Leave it alone.
Populations are stupid and have fads. Heavies recently got buffs and new content, therefore they are a fad. Leave heavies alone and when something new is released for assaults or logis, those players will circulate back. |
