Albeit the scan angle could use a little bit of a boost... 60 degrees ain't much when you can only point it in one direction.

I can tell you - today is the FIRST time I have used a scan in my whole life, and I've been playing the game for a few months. So, I have never used it pre-patch and I hated all the scan ballerinas. I hated their freaking smug faces as they danced all over the place and kept me permanently scanned. I hate them still...
But to the point. After playing around with the scanner, I have to say - I like it the way it is. I mean... I could use a bit of a wider angle, but meh... Maybe it will get patched in a year. |

Doubtful.
The Cal Scout is nothing like the scanner spamming problem. A decent Cal scout fit, 1 precision and 1 range amp can only scan less than half the range on a scanner. Also cal scouts can't share Intel with squad like scanners and they can't wp ***** with Intel kill assists. And there are still plenty of dampened suits you can't pick up without using several precision enhancers and having no ehp.
Most importantly, most of the players who abused scanners before did it cause they could have a 900hp logi suit and it was easy.
A proper scout, not brick tanked, is made out of glass and it is not easy. Thus I don't think as many have transitioned to Cal scout as you think.

Gallente Logi's still have near perfect scans.... The only nerf is the delay...
So 4-5 seconds? they spend dark maximum...
Not only that but when your scanning now your not holding it in your hand while an enemy walks around the corner and laughs at your while he sprays bullets at you. Scanner out.. press trigger.. Done.
It's what we wanted for scanning... Specialists at it... Otherwise it be based off Passive Modules/skills and a revamped Tacnet. |

I'd say the scout suit would be better for some instances. Especially now that they've taken away 360 scans and people going in and out if cloaks randomly. And you can't underestimate how useful the squad sharing is when you have more than one scout. |

Actually they do share intel with squad. And 2 cplx range amps is 70 meters with change, with 2 precision amps you have about 17 precision... So they're almost better |

Heavies have poor passives and therefore good heavies have great situational awareness. Scouts...are scouts lol. The guys that don't see you running right at them were the ones that either spammed scans or made sure to recruit a squad member that would do the spamming for them.
I've been noticing quite a few logis using the cloak (bug is giving them a bonus to cloaks currently but that's gonna be hotfixed)which I found to be funny. I surprise this guy and his reaction is to cloak himself, take a few steps back, and then just stand there. He must've really thought I was an idiot or something lol.

Yes because a scout with a constant 360 passive scan able to see everyone around him is any different...
It's not like I could scan good scouts before 1.8, the only thing cloaks do is make it so I can't see you when I'm looking in your direction.
I used to go 40/x with my heavy all the time. Guess what, heavies don't have equipment, or any sort of passive scan. Yet now all of the scouts who can see the enemy are the ones topping the score boards.
And don't get me started about tanking scouts with 500 shields -_-

ya know I always took snapshot to mean...well... a snapshot. It takes a shot (or in this case a scan) like a photo. In other words a picture. Again in other words a still frame of where everything and everyone is. there is usefull Intel in just that. like how many enemies there are and how much equipment there is.
perhaps they could even tell what type of suits there are in the "photo". again very useful. But it is not like that instead it has not changed much. So maybe instead of calling it a scanner they should call it a personnel marker. after all it marks anything it scans for a certain duration of time. just sayin'... yo description be wrong yo!

A brick tanked cal scout is not a very good scanner.
In order to make a cal scout super efficient at scanning, you have to sacrifice almost all of your shield ehp. In order to maximize the cals scouts range your have to sacrafice armor, dampners, card regs or kin cats. Basically you have to make it super squishy.
This is very different from just slapping a scanner on any brick tanked suit with an equipment slot. Scanners were not hard to fit on a slayer suit and that was the problem with them and that's why they were abused.
Also, as far a squad vision, I have tested it multiply times with corp mates and it does not appear to be working properly. I though they had removed it completely but other players are saying it's still here. It could be another bug and I will keep testing it, but I don't think cal scouts share Intel like scanners do. The fact still remains cal scouts are not as effective as scanners without making a proto Cal scout have about 250 hp. Whereas a logi can have four times the ehp and twice the scanner range.
And if someone was dumb enough to put 4 complex precision enhancers on a cal scout, it would still not be as good as a proti focused scanner.

Actually I am making fun of how bad so many players are now they don't have their 360 scans. Their are tons of players who literally can not play this game without scanner Intel and it is extremely fun to murder them now that they can't constantly scan me.

This is true. Scanners are still good. But with the changes to scout profile, cloaks and the changes to scanners, they are not as effective as they where. And now they are not abused as much as they where.
I rarley see "scan attempt prevented" now and even more rare is "you have been scanned."
It is a scouts paradise.

Adapt or die bitches. This is a pretty mean-spirited post. Reminds me of when 1.7 launched and the scrubbier tankers went 'haha, AV players are rubbish! Can't even take out my triple hardened tank!'. You know, good players know when their preferred playstyle is OP and don't flaunt it. Good tankers weren't boasting about their leet skills versus swarms that don't even slow their regen.
It's also funny that you're complaining about people who need 'constant intel from scans' when that's what scouts are getting now without even having to pull a scanner out. A ck.0 scout with two complex range amplifiers has pretty much the same range and precision as a duvolle quantum active scanner, but it's 360 degrees and constant, not a 60 degree slice for a few seconds.
I'm not QQing, it was immediately obvious to me that the active scanner was dead so I left my logi behind and specced into the gk.0 scout, which I'm having fun with. But people complaining that scanners are pathetic given what scouts can achieve do have a point. |

And don't get me started about tanking scouts with 500 shields -_- A brick tanked cal scout is not a very good scanner. You make some decent points here. Briefly:
Even a level 5 cal scout with zero amplifiers or precision enhancers has pretty impressive scanning. They see everything within about 35metres. Even if you carry four scanners on your gal logi (!) it is impossible to achieve that level of coverage. Sure, the range is relatively short, but for most scouts 35 metres is beyond engagement range anyway. And they can still stack 800hp, have low profile, high movement speed, etc.
And on the other point you make, I think passive scanning is still buggy. I still have tanks roll up on me and they don't show (this is in a gal scout). So I can well believe that squad vision isn't working as intended. |

A level 5 brick tanked cal scout only has a precision of about 27 and only a range of about 45 meters. It is very easy for any scout to get under 27 with a damp or cloak or booth. Also, a gal scout with two damps can not be seen by a cal scout with 4 precision.

This is all true but the precision of every active scanner except the proto focused is even worse, and even that isn't going to pick up a dampened gal scout. |

Actually try the proto flux. It's medium cooldown, excellent range, and huge scan area makes it the best scanner out there right now.

You're wrong about not providing intel, if the cal scout sees it, the squad sees it. So you're still permascanned, just half the range now This is not true. Tested extensively, dropsuit built in scans do not share info to sqd and/or team. Your dropsuits broken then.. try again. |

I record & upload for fellow corp/squad mates to watch back, but I admit I became the corp's dedicated scannerina by default & most of my editing time was taken up removing the boring 360 twirls!
Used them before we got WP for them and I guess friends got used to relying on me to counter the ever-present 'you have been scanned' from the opposition. Hated scanning itself as yes, it felt like a 'wall-hack' but it did become an addiction.
A few days into 1.8, and having almost completed my rehabilitation, I've not even tried the scanner again yet on my logi and have no pressing desire to - might well have to eventually, depending on the match/situation, but am enjoying returning to situational awareness again.

This is what Gal Logis should be doing - running two or three Creodron Flux scanners and hanging in the back behind everyone, to scan the objective out to 200m at 90* scan angle.
Won't matter to my scouts though as they always go dampened to under 21dB when their cloak is active, and even without cloak on my Gal scouts. |
