Except it is entirely possible to fit a Gal scout for example to have 230ish shields 750ish armour a proto weapon and a proto cloak. I have seen this fit several times already today.

My commando with cloak doesn't have very low hp... But yes going invis in the middle of a 1v1 firefight is suicide unless the other person is flat out useless, lol. |

I am a scout and Im telling you that I DONT NEED CLOAK!!!
EDIT: btw there will be no new-comers now... FIX IT SCOUTS DO NOT NEED A CLOAK - 100% agree Cloaks are stupid, no reason to have them in game. They are a negative, not a positive. Get rid of cloaks. Cloaks might possibly ruin the game more than all these impossible to kill 1400 eHP Proto sentinels. I can see fatties being UP x10, but in limited numbers they can work. Problem is there will be 8-10 per battles, which won't work. Only people who will complain about cloaks are bad players Keep that in mind
Quiet the opposite, its scrubs who need to use cloaks.
What a joke cloaks are, there's no reason to need them, just unskilled ***** scouts complaining their eHP too low because they don't bother to flank or learn tactics. Now scouts don't need to flank or bother playing a stealth role. Fit a cloak, head to frontline, then it on and stand still and wait. That's not a tactic, thats a joke
Scouts who need a cloak to be competitive or viable, should love cloaks because they are terrible players. Scouts don't need a cloak to be good, you just need more skill and experience (and apparently SP in dust).
Cloaks are a crutch that middle of the road to bad players need to use a scout, while it'll just help the lesser skilled elite... And the scouts who know how to play (and dominated prior to 1.8) will continue too but not cause of the cloak.
Get rid of the crutch, scouts don't need it and anyone who thinks they do can go to another class. |

A couple of points:
Cloaks are new and everyone wants to try them out (it was the first thing I did). Expect fewer people to run them regularly once the novelty wears off. It's day 1, just keep that in mind.
You should be decloaked upon taking damage with some reasonable delay before being able to recloak (someone mentioned 5 seconds, that's probably in the neighborhood).

That's cookie-cutter class design like PS2. No thanks. CCP did it right, you can run them on anything with an equipment slot, but it will gimp your fit. That allows for interesting and creative fittings. It's day 1 and everyone is trying out the new toy. I expect the cloak to mostly be used by scouts once the novelty wears off.

If you can't finish off a 1v1 when he cloaks to "escape," you have bad gun game.
However when there are other reds around the reticle doesn't indicate exactly where he is when he does this. So yeah that is a problem.

The cloaks have a role, look at Killzone, they found a way for the marksmen class, although in Dust it will be different. You won't see all 16 players with cloaks will you, no. I spec to cloak lvl 3 and I only have 2 scouts that will have it. I wont use cloak everytime, I only use it when the time is right. Its very effective for flanking and tactics but if other mercs dont use it well then they will abuse it and thats not good.
With TTK on the other hand, Im impressed, now it wont take a heavy to kill 3+ mercs. With my Gallente Heavy, 500 shields and 786 armour with 400+ HMG, I can only take out 2 mercs and thats a huge difference. With all my SP I spec to Caldari scount lvl 5, Gallente scout lvl 3, Gallente Sental heavy lvl 1,and Gallente assault/basic lvl 3. In the end Im satified. The ion pistol is badass.
If you run proto gear, prepare to suffer the consequences. You've been warned.

1. You're reticule will turn red if you pass it over the target. 2. The silhouette of the cloak can still be seen if you have a good eye. 3. The shimmer kicks in when moving and is most apparent in the dark.
Caldari Scout will detect even a cloaked scout using only the suit's passive scan. I just saw my brother kill a cloaked scout trying to sneak up on him but the enemy's chevron showed his position.

I think the cloaks are pretty well balanced. It has certainly added a whole new dynamic to the game-play, although now I get pretty paranoid that a Scout is going to decloak behind me with Shotgun in hand
I think the only change I would wish to see is if a Scout is cloaked and I shoot them, it should deactivate the cloak. I am not trying to be harsh, but the fact is if you got seen and I make contact...you failed. A fair trade when you can sneak up behind me and one shot me in the head or Nova-Knife me. With that change, everything would feel balanced IMO.
Regardless, I am happy to see Scouts find a viable role in the game. Many a Proto Caldari Scout has had their way with me already. |

Why?
New Eden has cloaks available, and though they have steep fitting requirements, there's no reason that you couldn't build cloaking ships on types that a casual observer might be surprised.
Dust exists in this universe, so take your preconceptions of what cloaking should do, and hold it. Why don't you actually attempt to play the game.

LOL i have yet to see a commando with one.
i have see assaults with them, but it looks like they could only fit a standard cloaking device and a primary weapon. their HP looked around just that of the base HP, so they likely had little, if any, modules.
Fact is that a scout LVL 5 gets 75% less Pg/CPU cost of cloaking devices. the PG/CPU that a cloaking device takes up on a scout suit of its same tier is comparable to equipping remote explosives of one tier to a suit of that same tier.
TL : DR version:
cloaking device practically IS scout only.

Yes, exactly my point. On the other hand, if you really want to try something off the wall you can. That's pretty much how sandbox games should work IMHO.

1 match in... I was just fiddling around in a cloak. Was killed twice while moving cloaked by another cloaked scout I never saw. Spent a lot of the map just keeping an eye out for the shimmer, think I saw it once. Eventually I tried to see what I could accomplish while cloaked. Now you see me, rounder a corner and cloak and wait for them to walk right up to your shotgun barrel worked nicely. Just standing in the middle of a fire fight and taking out reds once they were distracted seemed to work well too. Eventually i was just like F it and walked right up into a crowed of three people and nobody seemed to notice till I shotgunned someone. Seems like a lot of fun to those who are cloaked but quite frustrating to anyone who doesn't have one. Now I just have to decide between Gal scout (I have a dragonfly BPO) and a Minm Scout.
CCP you better nail 1.8, as it stands 1.7 is a total disaster.
