So, I'm not a newbie to the game but I have a question that I'm guessing is more in line for new players and may help them more so I thought I'd post it here. I just purchased a bluetooth for my PS3 specifically for this game. With the squads, do most
A: accept Snipers B: require a headset C: give "spotter" bonus (which from the recent patch/updates it looks like they do)
Now I'll be a little more specific to see what kind of info you can give me.
A: I play Sniper exclusively. Do squads generally accept Snipers or do they prefer running with infantry/front liners? I'm just thinking about the possible benefits of having a Sniper who can sit up on a hill or outlook and call out enemy positions/movements, especially in Domination mode. When I see a group of reds storming a null cannon, I keep thinking it would be great if I could let my teammates know so they can either get the jump on them or set up the counter attack. However, I don't want to join a squad and just be told to beat sand because I'm not going to be in the pack helping with the physical takeover of the null cannons/etc. Oh, and because I'm sure it's coming, please don't come with the "Sniper sucks switch to infantry" or something like that. I have way to much XP invested in Sniper to change now to something different.
B: Like I said, I just bought a headset because I haven't done squads on the impression from some people that without a headset, they didn't want you in because of the lack of communication (which makes complete sense to me and I didn't want to be a hindrance. I have one now so it's moot but if I join a squad, will there be people with and without headsets or is everyone going to be mic'd up?
C: I thought I read something in the patch notes when I logged on that there will be an SP bonus or something for basically lasering a target. Did I misread that or is that the case?
I want to thank everyone in advance for answering my questions. I just want to get more out of the game and I feel like mic'ing up and squading up will add another dimension. |

First and foremost, thank you to both of you for responding so quickly. Everything you guys said is extremely helpful. It gives me a good idea going forward.
As for your question Lee about mobile/stationary, I've played both styles depending on the situation. Like you said, in Domination matches I usually find a good vantage point and help with suppression and picking off people trying to charge the point. In skirmish, I move around a lot more and try to assist with different areas depending on the situation and try to stay flexible. As to the mic situation, that was what I figured for pub battles so that isn't too surprising. That is what mute is for if I need it.
Trenix: Yeah, the 2 person crew is one example of what I could see working really well as long as people are communicating and helping each other out. As to your additional points, I was in the Army for 10 years so basic info/phonetic alphabet/etc is second nature to me so I won't have any major issues with the verbiage. As to the second point, I'm going to ask for some guidance because, as I said, I've played Sniper almost exclusively. As for a secondary skill set, do you have any specific suggestions? Just to give you some background info that may be helpful, right now I'm running a lvl 5 Caldari Logistics suit and have level 5 sniper rifle/light weapons skills plus some bumps for Sniper rifles (proficiency, ammo capacity, etc.). I still have about 620,000 SP just sitting there unused because I wasn't sure what to use it in (assault rifle/laser/rail/ etc. Like I said, I'm just not really sure where to go? I'm definitely armored up and have some additional mods. I'm just not sure what kind of weapon system to look at as a good compliment. |

King of Hearts: That is the one negative of being a Sniper exclusively like I said. There are sometimes where I just feel like I'm wasting my time sitting there. I'm getting kills but it really doesn't help anything and it isn't improving my chances.
As for your second point, that is exactly what I was thinking but I tried to join a couple squads a while back and they kicked me and send me a message that since I didn't have a mic I'd be worthless. As for creating my own squad, that's not a bad suggestion.
Trenix: Also, forgot to mention this. Heck yeah we can squad up sometime and you can show me the ropes and help me out if you don't mind breaking in a Squad Noob.
TO ALL: As for my 3rd point, there was something in the 1.6 patch info about if you scan someone and they are killed within 10 seconds, you get a 10 or 15 point WP bump for identifying. Like I said, I'm not sure what that is about and don't know if there is any truth to it. The same one talks about 60 WP for a head shot and I know that does work because I've done it a few times

I guess I phrased that wrong. Up to this point I HAVE been playing a Sniper exclusively and am looking to branch out. I don't want to be the guy just sitting there not contributing like I feel I should be. There are some matches where I feel I play a really vital role and contribute to the overall win. But certain maps just aren't laid out for Snipers so I would like to be able to jump to something different so I can get in the fray and help a little more. Yeah, that's what I meant. I just realized how ridiculous my previous comment sounds when I read it in retrospect. Thanks for the verbal slap upside the head.
Right now I'm trying to figure out what exactly I want to do as for the alternate. I already have a lvl. 5 Caldari Logistics suit so I can go in multiple directions. I'm thinking about just grabbing another weapon proficiency and setting up my suit with a couple mods to be more frontline acceptable. I'm just not sure what to do.... |

I guess I would say I like a hybrid style where I'm supporting while being up by the frontline. This is my first ever FPS (I normally play sports games or Fantasy games like Skyrim) so I chose Sniper because it allowed me to sit in the back and figure everything out while getting used to the game. As for playstyle, in Skyrim I go double sword heavy armor and just beat people so I'm guessing more on those lines.
I'll give you a basic rundown of my fitting (I'm not at home so I don't know specifics (enhanced/complex etc) but this is the basic setup. Right now with my setup, Lvl 5. Caldari Logi I'm running 3 or 4 armor buffs, a PG/CPU buff (don't remember which), 4 weapon enhancement mods, a profile dampener mod, Charge/tact sniper rifle (2 seperate fittings), grenades, 2 nanohives and a drop uplink. When a battle starts I usually run up into the fray, drop an uplink and a couple nanohives then retreat back to an overwatch position to support my team. I'm wondering if I just put some SP into one of the other weapon systems, I can run the same basic fitting but have a frontline weapon to be up in the mix. Then I can swap out to my Sniper fitting to take out any threats if necessary. I'm just kind of trying to decide WHICH other weapon system would be best. From your race explanation (The one thing I never really figured out when I started playing this game), a rail system would be more in line with what I already have going.
As for squadding up, I posted to your OUKH recruitment page (and gave you glowing reviews in your assistance and helpfulness by the way) because I'm considering joining your Corp. I work M-F 3:30 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. Mountain time. Weekends are normally reserved for "wife time" since she works 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. so we don't get much time outside weekends. When I get a day off or if something changes, we'll get something worked out.
Once again, thank you very much for your help and answering my questions. It's nice to know there are people out there who are willing to help others and lend some advice. |

I'll answer the first question right off the bat. Yes, I did. When I loaded up the new patch, none of my fittings were allowable because I didn't have the requirements. So I went back in and amped up my dropsuits to level 5 Caldari Logistics.
So, now that I got myself all set up again, I am ready to roll. I am running my logi strapped with armor plating and drop uplinks/nanohives. I was looking through the weapons and decided the Combat Rifle fit my style the best so I built a couple fittings with Combat rifles so I can swap between Sniper/Combat if I need too, all with the same Lvl 5. Logi Suit. Now that I have the new toys, I just have to get used to it because, as I've mentioned a couple times, this is the only FPS I've ever played so when I get into up close combat, I'm getting torn apart because of my lack of skill. I'm a complete newb regarding up close man to man combat. I will Snipe the heck out of you from 350-400 meters (I have one headshot at 553 ) so I have that skill set down fairly well. It's just shooting, moving, and aiming together are a total new breed for me so the learning curve is heavy.... |

Yeah, I'm still getting used to the Combat Rifle but so far I'm digging it. The Armor repair is one thing I haven't looked at so that is good advice. The lost auto repair is a pain but there are enough slots I can afford to give a slot to A.R. Thank you again for all the info and help Lee.
P.S. When are you playing normally? Maybe we can squad up sometime.... |

I'm guessing that's P.M.? Yeah, I work 3:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. M-F so that may be difficult. If I get some time, I'll look you up or send you a friend request. Thanks for all the advice.
