Nobody knows how it'll work out until it hits so for now its just talk. Don't judge the release on the first week or two as it'll be chaos and pain. Lots of pain and experimentation.
10 mil SP is plenty to fight other infantry. Just go where the tanks can't go.

You should be more worried about Heavy Dropsuits, because they will be rampant across new eden. Since there will be more Heavy Dropsuits, the amount of forge guns will increase exponentially and tanks will see forges from every direction hit their tank.

I don't know whether you're a shield or armor based assault, but it looks on the surface like the longer TTK might make shield tanking viable (you might actually make it to cover to recharge). I figure I'll try actually being a hit and run flanker again. With almost all my SP in Dropships, I only have a fairly basic Cal Assault though.

Higher TTK will benefit chars with better gear and higher SP way more then fresh or middle aged chars, so if that brings changes it will be way harder for newer players to bring down proto suits... |

I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it - but in all honesty I am feeling a bit cynical about 1.8. Worried it will be a great boost for the already deadly and another kick in the teeth for late starters. Maybe the company have decided if they ain't getting enough new players they should just stroke the long timers instead?
But these are a quivering cowards observations and like you say - the proof will be in playing it, the rest is just talk!

let's see....i'd suggest remote explosives but those won't work on heavies in 1.8, guns won't work, soloing won't work, sniping will be ****, av will be ****.

Use Militia suits for the first week. It will suck.
Wait till you see whats strong and effective and what different player groups are using.
Then plan you skill point allocation based on the research..
Make sure your saving all this weeks and next weeks SP for allocation after research is complete. |

Armour unfortunately - In fact I appear to have skilled into everything that people are saying is now virtually useless (AR, RR, Armour) so my pathetic fears could be well founded..

Concentrate on supporting your team with hives, reps and most important of all, uplinks. Nets you a lotta points with a little less risk than just playing assault.

It'll certainly be interesting. I have some tactical changes I'm going to resurrect to see if they work. Sentinels concern me but popping the flood of slow, sensor blind Commandos will be fun.
Your best bet is to avoid head on engagements.

I would strongly suggest remote explosives on a scout suit or something quite fast. Granted this is only really fun in close quarters maps but Remotes do not discriminate. They will blow up 95%+ of proto suits just the same as blowing up new starters.

remotes won't work vs heavies? oh that's bad... remote blasting heavies is one of the games greatest pleasures!

25% blast resistance? Use another RE. Scouts will have 2 equipment slots so pack a nanohive to make it easier to reload or fit RE to your Logistics.

Okay so that's making sense. I'm really really frustrated I sent my first character to the recycle as I had skilled all the way into Scout without bothering to check what the hell I was doing. Right now that would actually be really useful.

You can do a decent scout fit with that much, I think.
Just get dampning up to 3 and put an enhanced in any scout. Use whatever Rifle or shotgun, militia kincats and whatever shield extender you can fit.
You'll die faster, but might not get scanned as much and it's fun. Hell, in matches where people don't scan at all, you can even do good with the militia light frame, militia modules and militia shotty.
I was running scout with Assault Scrambler Rifle at that time. I don't think I had any biotics or electronics. I think I used 2 militia damage mods, 1 militia kincat, and 1 militia dampner. No sidearm or equipment because I didn't have any cores either. |

Its pretty bad these days. you need some serious time on DUST to do something with it..
The more I play around with my low SP alt's the more I realize player skill isn't part of equations much anymore... It's skill points + AA and math = winner almost 90% of the time.
Now that End game players will have even more survivability.. The chance for those 10m Toons to drop them are very slight. Or reliant on the end game player complacency or mistakes.
Now Rewind your memory to Chromosome.. Everyone had near maxed skills(towards last few months).. It cost less to max out skills by design then.. You could make a brand new toon and compete with you friends on a Pub using your personal abilities and player skill you acquired playing DUST and other FPS's..
Now? a new toon even in the considered most talented players hands in DUST? Wouldnt' have a chance against a mediocre end game player.
