Terrible things happened in the past, things both the Caldari and Gallente were responsible for, all from the rift of bringing an entire people into the fold of a society they clearly did not belong in, which clashed with their traditions and culture.
That divide was like a wound from which only hate poured forth, but it is a wound that has long since begun to heal, and would close completely if only both sides would stop picking at it.
Yes, the Caldari and Gallente have a bloody past, but focusing on that past is not benefiting anyone.

BOTH sides have much to gain from the other, especially in the economic and social sectors, if they would cast aside their old grievances and start anew. More so than any other empires, they have the capacity to become allies, or better yet, friends.
If and When this happens, the Caldari will be welcomed back to Luminaire, to the home they so desperately long for, and perhaps a new era of mutual trust and cooperation could take hold. Well said the history of Caldari and Gallente have mostly been nothing but bloodshed and hatred towards one another due to events that happened centuries ago. And while the battle for Caldari Prime was a horrible disaster on the planet, it did start the demilitarization agreement that let Gallente and Caldari coexist on Caldari Prime.
However, I do not think the Caldari and Gallente will never become allies, due to the sheer difference in their social structures. Caldari are about sacrificing oneself for the benefit of the group, and not making compromises when it comes to their culture, while Gallente are all about individualism and capitalism. After all, the only Gallente corporation Caldari recognize is Quafe, and their alliance with Amarr is mostly based on "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
I do hope though that in the least, the Caldari and Gallente can coexist peacefully, and the demilitarization agreement is a step in the right direction.
