Pros:
Full Auto might be good in 1.8 More fun to use Better at long range 'Dat Reload animation
Cons:
Gives me Chromosome flashbacks. Useless up close Higher TTK than Scrambler Rifle Could still suck in 1.8 Lower ammo

Go Amarr Assault if you plan to use either. I personally prefer ScR, since you get a CQC assault version and a ranged tactical version from the same skill, while the Laser kinda locks you into a fairly narrow engagement range. This may change with the upcoming laser buffs, but I'd hold off for now and see when the patch drops.

On a Commando, it just isn't worth it since the 10% Damage bonus is not as useful as 25% more damage before overheat. You can do more damage, but you can't shoot as much. If you aren't using it on Amarr Commando or Amarr Assault, you're insane.

Depends on how you're playing. Lasers always were a good area-denial weapon.
Saw someone else using a laser rifle today. Unfortunately, said person was a blueberry in Caldari FW, and was firing it from about 10m at a protobear with aim assist wielding a breach AR

Wait, I can't use them on my proto sentinel? You sick bastard. Please never use photobucket again, we have Imgur now, which doesn't have an insane amount of ads and loads relatively fast. This isn't 2004.

Laser rifle never sucked... Its just not as effective as other weapons, i specced into it a while ago, the only reason i stopped using it was the feedback damage and that i already had scramblers at prof 4... I might use it tomorrow just to show that its still good pre buff |

People will often ignore it to start with as initial damage is low, but if they take it lightly and ignore it, the damage ramp up catches them by surprise as they suddenly explode near the end of your burst. It's not exactly a great weapon overall though. 66m is the closest you can get currently before you start loosing efficiency. Will be interesting to see how far they drop that in 1.8 or if they have simply removed it utterly. |

Scrambler is versatile, requires good aim and smart timing. It is excellent in 1v1, but you could run into problems with multiple opponents. Overheating in the middle of a gunfight is typically a death sentence. This weapon should do well in the pop-in-and-out-of-cover style gunfights that are likely to be common in longer TTK gameplay due to the high alpha potential of the charged shot.
Laser may or may not be viable in 1.8. If it can't consistently beat the RR at the edge of the LR's range it won't be worth using. If the 110 effective range is sufficient to do this, it will be viable. Be advised that the LR is like walking around the map with a giant "gank me" arrow pointing right at your location. Cloaked scouts will eat you for breakfast. If you position yourself well, you can put up a wall of light that will cook any enemies that try to break through. You will need to sit on a nanohive, because you'll be chewing through ammo. These should be a good counter to heavy spam, assuming you can get them out in the open.
The huge penalty against armor is tough for both laser weapons. This is a case where stacking damage mods may be worth it (even with the reduced effectiveness) since it's the only way to improve your DPS vs. armor.
