I'm just curious if anyone finds extenders useful on their ADS. I primarily use my Python as I believe it was intended, for in and out lightning strikes. I typically run 2 hardeners and a booster, but I want to know if others have seen a signifigant improvement in survivability with an extender.
On my Incubus I run 1 rep, 1 hardener and 1 plate, but it's better for prolonged engagements than the Python even without a plate.
Thoughts?

The only purpose for an extender on a vehicle these days is to boost the effectiveness of a hardener.

I run 2 extenders and an afterburner.
With a cplx light and enh heavy, you get just over 3k shield and can fit a cplx AB and X-T missile (it's possible to get 3.2k shield w/ Basic Heavy EX > Cplx light, but it requires turret fitting skills and a basic AB).
It's good because it has just slightly less ehp than a single hardener alone (about 3.2-3.4ehp iirc), but never needs to recharge and has the added bonus of being able to fit an AB (unlike triple hardened fits).
Face it, you're never going to out tank a rail tank. The best way is to avoid damage by flying away and coming back and attacking the tank (which is why redline rails are OP, btw). As for AV, you can out run swarms easily and, if you're good at orbiting, you can easily dodge forge guns (I've been able to do nearly completely vertical, tight orbits while still targeting forge gunners, it's quite effective).

One basic heavy shield extender is like one shield hardener but runs all the time. Add in a hardener for attacking dangerous targets, such as a pesky Forge Gunner, and an afterburner to GTFO when things go bad and you have an effective hit-and-run Python.
I don't like dual hardeners because without the extra buffer you go down faster and have to remember to constantly cycle them. Having one extender and one hardener keeps you safer and acts like dual hardeners when your hardener is active. Plus it makes that hardener more effective when starting with a full shield buffer.

i have a gunless grim fit with 1 enhanced heavy shield ext and a complex plate, AB, basic heavy rep. 2007/3388hp. i use it for a solo transport and to plant RE/proxy pile, droplinks at start of match. then i fly it around and waste some AV ammo, get a feel for the match, before switching to incubus or if it's too hot i call a scanning gorgon that is much more gentle on the wallet

I shield tank my python. With the way I fly, my tanked python has a higher survivability rating than my fittings with hardeners. 3244 shields.

I do this too. 2 extenders and 1 AB. Still many times I have taken one single shot from something and it has totally wrecked nearly all of my shields.
Man every thread I look at keeps reminding me about how broken this game is :(

Still, two shots from a damage modded proto rail or breach will kill it (I don't know the exact numbers), but if you're good with keeping your velocity and quick to activate your AB, you should be fine. Imo, your best chance to survive is to not get hit at all.

2 complex hardeners and 1 complex shield booster for the highs on my python . It will yield a much higher eh than any amount of extenders. And only has a 15 second down time for every minute on the front.
Proud Gunlogi pilot and forge gunner since August 2012.
Why bother running you'll only die tired.

I run double hardeners with an afterburner on my own ADS.
This though limits my engagement time to the active time of my hardeners, but makes me damn near invincible to swarms and forge guns, and allows me to take that initial rail shot. The afterburner get's me into and out of engagements quickly, as well as making me nearly impossible to hit.

I've been meaning to try this, but I think I'll only be able to fit 1 turret with this. I kind of like having gunners though.

I run double hardeners and an extender. I usually pop both of them at the same time though.
Best PVE idea I've seen.

Python Base Shield = 1548 Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender = 1007 Complex Hardener = 60% 2nd Complex Hardener is only at 87% of its original value due to stacking penalty.
My usual Python is fit with an enhanced heavy extender and one complex hardener. Without the hardener running my shield HP is 2555 and with it is 4088.
If I fit two complex hardeners without an extender then my HP is 2476 with one hardener running and 3329 with both running.
Unless there is a problem with my math one enhanced heavy extender with one hardener is better than two complex hardeners and due to the higher starting buffer it is even better than two complex hardeners. You also have the benefit of have 2555 shields even without the pilot sitting in the cockpit.
Armor HP is 960 for those that are curious.
The complete fit for my Python is:
XT-1 Missile Launcher Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender Complex Shield Hardener Enhanced Afterburner Complex Powergrid Upgrade
I only have 5 mil SP in all vehicle and turret skills combined so better trained pilots can squeeze more performance out of this than I but won't be able to increase HP.

I've debated using 2 hardeners and booster vs 2 hardeners and AB, and usually I go with the booster. As soon as the first rail shot hits I activate the booster and then any hardeners that weren't on. Rarely get one shotted, even during PC, and I find it generally makes it take 3 rail shots to drop me as long as I can get that rep in before the second shot lands. |

Thoughts? I've started running Enhanced Afterburner, Complex Shield Hardener, Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender, and Complex Powergrid upgrade with an XT-1.
